Near the city of Třinec close to the border to Poland, the oldest operating fixed-grip chairlift in the country of Czechia can be found.
Built in 1957 by Transporta Chrudim, the fixed single chair takes the passenger over a flat field before going up a steep incline. The vertical rise of the 1.3km long route distances equals 462 meters.
However, what's by far more fascinating about this ropeway is its nostalgic appearance and charm. Having operated for over 65 years without any major modifications, the chairlift, with its chalet terminals, truss supports, light chairs and slow speeds that extends the ride duration to 13 minutes, makes the passenger fall back in time to the 1950's. It's an experience only very few ropeways can boast with, making this lift a worthy entry for every ropeway enthusiasts bucket list.
Plans to replace this ropeways date back to over a decade ago. However, due to nature activist organisations opposing a new ropeway being built in its place, citing the widening of the aisle that a modern ropeway would require, the old single chair continues to operate, and hopefully does so for a long time coming.
