    Sorry for bringing a negative video on this channel, but just wanted to share my thoughts on it since new endgame is such a monumental point for genshin. For anyone who is enjoying it, if you disagree with me then don't let this negatively impact you its ok.
    I like that they restrict us to specific elements, I also like how we can't play our best teams and have us try other characters and teams. I don't need to play optimal abyss teams. I would love it if a new mode gave more emphasis on beidou, yanfei, thoma. Or make us think about combat completely differently
    For example, Star Rail's pure fiction gave an emphasis on aoe and follow up characters. simulated universe swarm made us focus on survivability first then dps.
    But Imaginarium Theater has no such tactics. It ultimately devolves into having enough characters to actually qualify, then just bruteforcing with scuffed teams that just feel bad or stupid to play. and ultimately, the combat itself was just like abyss, it wasn't different. the only difference was some small unnoticeable buffs and using nonesensical teams. it didnt really change anything aside from newer players needing to pull and build more characters. but for what, just to fill up the 4 man team requirement? the hardest part is just getting to participate at all.
    And I've seen some people say it rewards accounts which horizontally invested to build multiple charactters, but I think I disagree; I thought that but it doesn't really. Ultimately most teams we will play are scuffed and random so vertically invested players will just be bruteforcing with their overinvested dps.

      I think making character recruitment and buffs fight for the same resource was a mistake. Having to choose between recruiting characters and picking buffs just means that you just don't get enough buffs to matter.
      One of the things that's worth noting about Simulated Universe in HSR is that the individual buffs are not that big. There are a handful of strong buffs, but the majority of the impact you get from blessings is that summed effect of many *small* blessings. You just get a LOT of them. Even more in Swarm and GnG compared to normal SU. And different buffs have stacking synergistic effects--getting crit rate/crit damage/dmg% buffs scale multiplicatively with each other, Spore blessings synergize with skill point-generating blessings, etc. Runs feel different because of the scaling effect of different buff combinations.
      But in IT, you just can't pick that many buffs because so many of your Flowers have to be set aside for recruiting characters just to make the run playable. You don't get enough "free" recruitments to even finish a run so you HAVE to spend Flowers to get more of them. Which just means that you don't get to pick many buffs because you only ever get to spend leftover Flowers after you cant pick more characters. And that means they don't get to scale each other.
      I've seen people say that they should make the buffs bigger, and I actually don't think that's the right way to improve them. I think they need to make character recruitment and buffs cost *way* less Flowers, so that rather than picking 5 buffs in a run, you get to pick like, 20-30 buffs the way you do in an SU run. The buffs can be small as long as you design them to scale each other (which they already do, as stat buffs that multiply each other's effects are already inherently synergistic).
      Character recruitment vs. buffs has the potential to be an interesting choice, it just isn't right now because the cost of either is so expensive, and you *need* to recruit a minimum number of characters so you always choose character recruitment, which doesn't leave enough room for blessings. The mode would play substantially better if the flower rewards from chambers were doubled, or the cost of recruiting or picking a buff was halved.

      I totally agree with your vid, and I continue to watch streamers and other content creators talking about this in a very positive way. It totally feels like a temporal event. Like... I like the idea of what they are trying to do... which is this "forcing you to think outside the box" in terms of team building, but all this thinking outside the box doesnt matter when you have to play teams like, Alhaitham, Cyno, Keching and Scaramouche. It feels bad, and annoying to complete. I started to play 3 years ago, have a very well-built account, and enjoy abyss a lot. This has been like the worst experience I've had in years, considering it's supposed to be a new endgame. If this was a temporal event, i'd feel like "whatever".
      Thanks for sharing your opinion. I really hope your opinion and others' reach mihoyo and adjust an refine this mode so that it doesnt feel like an annoying chore, but rather a dynamic and fun new way to approach team building.

      @@zorgling25 I agree with the issue of flower economy, but from the other direction where it can cause people to play the mode "wrong" and thus enjoy it less.
      In Jamie's run he refused to pick the unit draft card, so he caused his own "scuffed teams" problem with skill issue, i.e. not understanding importance of draft cards.
      In the previous iteration of the event, you automatically got 2 drafts after every round (you only get 1 free draft each round here).
      I feel draft/boons should also be automatic here, or at least make the cost of draft/boons cheaper so that they don't become mutually exclusive for purchase.

      It's pretty ridiculous - especially bc they did make some BANGER combat events in v2, for example, the labyrinth event (2.2) and the chasm maze (2.7).

    I think lots of people are on the same page. It does not give enough difficulty to feel rewarding, yet it also gatekeeps lower level players due to the roster limitation. It's just another limited combat event. I don't know what kind of players Hoyoverse is aiming this mode for. Honestly, I never really enjoyed combat events with Vigor system. You know what? At least they could have let us pick 2-4 characters to keep for all floors (has unlimited Vigor basically) so we can have universal supports to use on different DPSes or probably play our favorite unit with like 5 different teams, because there are times where my team consists of 2-3 on field DPS. Also having to fill all team slots for every stage is weird. We are forced to use up these universal support characters, so they tried "solving" it by giving domain level difficulty, which makes this mode not feeling like endgame content at all.

      There are 3 restrictions:
      -vigor
      -specific elements
      -requires 18 characters
      In my opinion, only 2 need to be implemented, and one of them is Vigor.
      Either Vigor + Elemental Restriction, or Vigor + Requires 18 Characters.
      Instead they increase the difficulty of either DPS checks or Elemental checks, or both.
      What I feel right now is that this mode only focuses on "requirements" and sacrifices a lot of the challenge element.
      (it seems Hoyo took the "requirements" as a challenge)

      @@OktavianusCelestialine Give 3-4 Vigor instead of 2, or give us a choice to give certain characters extra 2 vigor. I guess unlimited vigor is quite too much, so 4 vigor on 2-3 characters is fine for me.
      Elemental check is actually good and it's different from elemental shield... we've been seeing vape comps everywhere and now they're embracing overload. If only they give certain overload support/sub DPS as first time reward of the promoted reaction to give more players a chance, duh... (Example: they give Xiangling from clearing certain level of Abyss. Could have done this for IT by giving chev to help some players expanding their roster, so they can get the base through IT and constellations through gacha). Or maybe choose specific support for each element restriction that can be used more than twice.
      About hoyo seeing requrements as challenge: Yeah that's weird... I think I should call them genshin devs, because HSR devs did things infinitely better with SU and things like gold and gears. Not being too negative but... man, SU in HSR is such a fun way to beat difficult stage with characters you like. But genshin devs have wrong priorities or point of view. They can keep making characters like Eula feel amazing with path system and focused blessings, but they find annoying restrictions a fun challenge. Now that IT is all we got, I hope they will give more changes after first survey. As a content creator, the content is too random and not hard enough to even showcase online.

      As of the first itteration, it feels like a fun endgame, not difficult endgame. IMO it kinda helps casuals understand team comps/team building potentially.

    They should have put the supports and DPSers in separate buckets so you always get both. Putting them all in the same bucket makes you get a bad mix. EDIT: You don't need any stars! Makes it crazy easy.

      Yup. Got stuck with an Arle, Chlorinde, Heizou and Keqing team. Did not feel good to play at all. The RNG is way too punishing and makes it less fun.

    I still feel like some improved version of the old Labyrinth Warriors event would have been a far more fun and interesting endgame. Like it encapsulated tangible exploration and choices, had rooms that weren't just combat but also interesting puzzles. It reminded me of this roguelike called Gunfire Reborn, and I feel like that format of roguelike would adapt so well as endgame for Genshin. I love Genshin's elemental combat, but sometimes the arenas are so generically circular. I also feel like time trial combat challenges should be an option room with varying rewards, and should introduce combat rooms that aren't just time trials or even survival puzzle rooms.

      ​@@xendell154 it's the casual Cn players who fucked us over. Apparently, they didn't like the labyrinth warriors, and even their bilibili cc's complained a lot that it was hard. Back then, many people also didn't have good build chars and gears, it was just bad timing i guess. I am sure if they bring it again now as permanent game mode, everyone would love it, but i know the chance of that happening is near impossible now.

    Agreed. From the reception and praise of it I've seen, I think the target audience is long-term casual players.
    IT gives the illusion of teambuilding and a time attack battle, while in reality forcing you to play unsynergistic crap where your picks dont matter, and plowing through easy enemies that can be beaten by this unsynergistic crap.
    It gives players who think they like teambuilding but who couldnt build a team to save their life the chance to feel like they did it. They really think their picks mattered and they played well.
    I'm sorry to be so negative as well, but wow, I am not the target audience for this mode. I like horizontal investment, teambuilding, and playing unconventional teams, and none of that is represented in this mode. It's just random garbage go. The only thing I like is more voiced dialogue. Every part of the gameplay felt terrible.

    My expectation is same like Jamie wanting to use some off-meta teams that still have synergies. But, all I get is throw random bs with 4 non-synergistic characters and make me ask myself wtf I'm playing. Still clear the hard mode but it feels so empty. And knowing Hoyo GI department I don't think they'll make improvements to IT. Best you can get for now is "work as intended" or just wait for another 3 years.

    I can handle being restricted to two or three elements but the fact that I can't actually choose the characters myself and everything is completely randomized is not what I'd call fun. It wouldn't even matter if the difficulty was the issue, it's the random nature of the team composition that you're forced into that makes zero sense because genshin's combat is strictly centered around the reactions of specific elemental combinations.

      I actually have MORE built units than what I need to fill the roster - but not being able to just choose from the roster makes everything pretty much a crapshoot. I think you need to use the currency you earn in the fights to buy back your roster piece by piece.

    I like how you argue that Genshin's fundamental approach to kit designs working within the broad ecosystem between all characters is a major issue as to why the gamemode feels so bad, and why teambuilding in the game is so... boring and repetitive. Why *are* so many characters genuinely useless, some are chosen every year to actually be good, and the rest niche?

    They could have done something like Divergent Universe where your characters are all leveled up with a weapon and mediocre artifacts so at least you'll have some incentive to build characters to try in the abyss. But no they want us to farm for characters before doing this. They should also increase the amount of trial characters and make the supports have unlimited uses so people could find synergies between characters.

      @@MrJayslayerjay You need to have 18 units over level 70, which is not trivial for a lot of levels of account depending on how long they've played and how they've invested. New players are locked out for many months longer than any other mode.
      This will be even worse on several other elements turns as pyro, electro and anemo have more 4 stars than any element other than cryo

      ​@@SkyStar997there's difference between locked out because of skill issue and locked out because of external force outside the mode.
      Even in Star Rail they encourage new players to clear some of the lower levels of their endgame modes by giving free character for first time clearance to help building your account.

      @@SkyStar997Personally not a new player, been here since '22, i have built and hyperinvested into 3 team, i have no wasted characters except keqing and Ayaka, keqing due to Clorinde coming out, Ayaka because i disliked playing her a lot.
      i have 13 characters i can bring into the theater, and leveling another 5 character to 7p would cost me about 2200 resin, wasted on characters that are suboptimal.

    I forgot the one event, where you had to put together 3 teams, but slots were shared between teams (slot 1 for team 1 was slot 1 for team 2, and slot 3 for team 2 was slot 3 for team 3), I feel like that would work better. Add something like the Vibro crystals, and I feel like that would be a much better game mode than this. Was very surprised to see CC's at least make positive thumbnails for this

      I was hoping they'd use that event mechanic for a permanent mode, and I was incredibly disappointed to see IT work out to be so scuffed
      It was just *fun* to think about how you use the shared slots. People with both Wanderer and Xiao can share a Faruzan, sharing Yelan for Tao and Alhaitham. Having a mix between that and the vigor system could make for a unique mode that can also offer more difficulty than IT is right now.

      ​@kavayo404 imo the sharing system is lame. I don't really care to essentially use bennet for my first half of abyss for lyney and also for my second side for chevreuse teams. Honestly it's like why? It just defeats the point of teambuilding, takes no use of our Brian and isn't even fun. Just makes team building easier.

      good idea! basically like honkai impact 3rd elysian realm or wuthering waves illusive realm. they could still restrict us to pyro, electro, anemo characters this season, but you would be able to omega buff your yanfei, beidou, dehya etc. giving some cool unique buffs to their own kits that you would steadily aquire in a rogue like mode (dehya damage reduction has 100% uptime, you can have almost perma burst mode etc.) so players would be encouraged to level and build their yanfei, dehya etc. in order to obtain primos and other rewards. and then every season they change the characters out.

      @@jamiekb9v I don't play Star Rail, but Wuwa's Illusive Realm does ban certain characters from being used, so it's got all the features. Plus all but the highest difficulty has some trial chars, so even allowing a very small set of characters per rotation could work.

    If the "blessings" were relevant enough and if the difficulty asked for it, u could make some of those senseless team justifiable. Rn, its just base abyss w worse team options, easier enemies and a few extra buffs

    I find this mode barely fine. The idea itself is pretty fun but I underestimated how uncomfortable it felt to play random units with low synergy, even if I struggle more in the abyss I love them way more.

    Ppl keep saying this incentivizes creative team building, but random isn't creative. if they actually wanted that, they couldve just made an abyss copy with a game changing gimmick every cycle like "all ability hits deal Hydro damage instead of their normal damage type" so infusions become important or "healing abilities damage and damage abilities heal" and we could see god-mode qiqi teams. Honestly if minor versions of these were the "buffs" you get every round and you had access to all your characters, that would be enough.

    The fact that you have rng in the teams you play feels awful, also I don't get why they didn't make boons relevant they do very very little to impact the way you play or the dmg you do. I bet that's the reason why they make enemies such a joke, since you don't have control of what you play and you don't get good buffs in the game mode so you have to make the dps needs as low as possible. Is unfun and half baked.

      It's not even low dps, I've try it in 2 accounts, my main one well developed and the secondary one with under level characters and only 2 full teams and dear lords, this thing is night and day if your characters are below 90. While I was able to 36 abyss in both accounts having characters at 80 to 85, here the bosses without a good team become awful and tedious unless you purposely hold into the trial DPSs which then will have you playing half baked or wacky teams for the first 2 combats.
      Is not funny for veterans and it's too demanding for new/early accounts to be a reliable way to have fun. (12 characters is just absurd 💀)

    I find this new gamemode to actually be really difficult. My abyss teams are cyno hyperbloom, hyper xiao, and main dps navia (I like the hypercarry team playstyle) and they don’t translate well to this mode. Imo there are too many restrictions that combined create a miserable play experience, at least based on my account. I think either the vigor system should go or be extended to more than two uses, or you should be able to start with more characters at the beginning or at least have a lot more cards that allow you to choose a character to bring in. None of that will probably happen because Genshin loves to create a problem and sell you the solution.

    I feel like they should have a category of like “stage crew members” who you cna use as many times as you want but you can only use one crew member at a time and then everyone else you get randomly

      How so ? While they have there own opinions there's a level of accountability when it comes to being a content creator people tend to just parrot what they hear without forming an actual opinion so as a disclaimer it's a "First Impressions" not a definitive evaluation of the mode

      @@demonking-zm3rs no the disclaimer is bad when the first thing it says is I love Genshin, the fact he needs to say that is an indication of the state of the community, and just a personal note, a first impression is all I needed to realize this mode is not it, add in the quirky little "these specific characters gets +20% hp,atk,def in IT,Abyss and overworld" and that give a pretty good idea of what's the purpose of this mode

      @@demonking-zm3rs That disclaimer was mainly to avoid bashing from people not wanting to hear negativity, which is a huge portion of the game's community (positive toxicity). He wouldn't start by saying he likes the game if he just wanted to asses the objectivity of the claims in the video: that's a personal take, which means it's directed to people that care about what he thinks and feels rather than what's the objective state of the game. It's also a precaution against how other people, mainly who doesn't know him, may perceive this video, like saying "hey I'm not a hater, these are just my thoughts on this specific thing" but again this tells the level of brainrot of a big part of the community, unfortunately.
      I remember one time I complained about Ayaka, my first 5S in 2.7, getting stuck on pebbles and stairs and basically everywhere (it got eventually fixed but like a year later), and a not negligible portion of the replies where toxic, a couple even arguing that was Hoyo's way to balance her because she was too strong so I shouldn't complain, Hoyoverse is the best company in the world they know what they are doing. Hoyo can get away with a lot of their shyt because of a playerbase like this.

    I'm normally positive on Genshin too and hate the drama and whiners but in this case I completely agree. I am really disappointed by this mode.
    I have the worst possible account for this cycle (skipped 100% of the 5* they picked to feature for start and off-element support) and I still had absolutely no issues one shotting it with trial units I have no idea how to play. But I sure did not have fun doing it.
    This is quite literally a glorified combat event.
    The restrictions are so oppressive that they had to tune it to be clearable with trial stats and nonsense teams.
    All you have to do to win is level up 3-4 dps units of each element to 80 or 90 and level 9 talents. You don't need to farm gear for them you can just steal gear off the banned elements. I got two stars with Yanfei on a Furina-less inactive 4pc Marechaussee build.
    They can't make this mode hard because the restrictions are so oppressive that it will just frustrate most players who have been enjoying the "pull and play who you want Genshin is meant to be casual fun". And even if they did make it hard and force you to have all the units... it still wouldn't be fun. You're still playing nonsense comps with no synergy or strategy and randomly slapping mobs for loot.
    The UI is pretty and the new rewards are nice though.

    I have no idea why, but I’m really weirded out by the 30 day IT buffs to characters that apply to overworld and Abyss. It feels so artificial

      I like it. It feels rewarding to already have the characters on rate up. And the idea of specific buffs carrying over everywhere is interesting even though it's just defensive atm.

      Agree. To me it feels like they know some characters aren't keeping up or don't meet expectations, and just give them a flat big buff to hide that from less savvy players. Its like turning down the odometer on an old car to make it seem like its in better shape.

    It seems like most ccs are disappointed, I get its easier to design a game mode around a turn based rpg but it's just easy content with scuffed teams. I skipped Arlecchino and Clorinde and I looked at the builds and the Clorinde had 91 crit damage and a level 80 weapon so it's not like I even get to experience playing the character in a satisfying way.

      Oh I definitely found it satisfying. I actually got to use clorinde since I skipped her and if it was a maxxed out build she would've speedran through the trial not actually allowing me to experience her and also making the game mode more easy.

    to me the worst problem is that we have to play that exact starting cast and that getting new characters is random and costly. as someone who loves doing abyss multiple times with different teams, this limits replayability a lot. the first 2-3 stages will always be similar, you gotta use up characters that have no real synergy and spend all your flowers on unlocking new characters. and honestly even after that you kinda still want to keep spending those flowers just on more characters so that you can unlock a somewhat coherent team for the last stage. meanwhile the buffs dont do much. it feels terrible to play because there is no real choice. If picking buffs means i then cant adjust my team to fit them it makes no sense to go for them at all. they literally could have kept the exact same elemental restrictions and vigor system but make us freely choose our teams and it would already be a better mode. And then they should have made the buffs actually impactful. yeah hu tao suffers in this mode bc she really wants to vape, but they could just give a buff that permanently applies everything with hydro. or one that literally doubles your hp, or converts em you built to extra attack. or just give a huge charged attack buff, there are so many possibilities. choosing who to play depending on what buffs you get and maybe even unlocking new playstyles through buffs sounds really fun.
    I would have loved a new mode that incentivizes playing suboptimal but still synergistic teams, but as it is its just get a dps to drag 3 others along and keep your good characters for the last fight.
    also the level 70 limit is really bad design. A random vv or ttds character you're just dragging along to use up their vigor instead of a good characters vigor is gonna have the exact same impact on your team at level 1 or 70 anyways. Forcing new players to waste their resin to even participate sucks.

      also being forced to play the starting cast means being forced to use trial characters if you dont have them yourself. even if you might have enough other characters built that fit the retrictions that you would much rather use. I guess they want you to try out new characters to make you pull for them (?) but how is that gonna work when they feel terrible with those builds and also arent even on banner.

    I did 6 runs yesterday, and what I found is that if you buy characters instead of buffs (which are almost useless anyways) its much more enjoyable, as you actually have options to make teams and plan ahead. I like the core of the gamemode but it needs a LOT of improvement.
    Edit: My ideas for improving it are having all (or more) characters by default and making buffs more general and important. I feel like this would solve some of the main issues with the gamemode, rng dependent team comps and the buffs not feeling usefull.

      I like the rng teams. Genshin is a gacha so when a rogue like gives you random weapons and buffs that may not synergies we get random characters. The only scuff thing is that it has to be out of our roster and not the 100 total characters I guess.
      And yes the game needs the buffs to be much stronger and more impactful.

    Genshin new endgame in 4 yrs and its forking disappointing.
    Most people didn't like this and guess what Hoyo gonna do about it :- ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
    Hoyo:- Take it or leave it, but we're too lazy to make any changes and get our players stressed

    It doesn’t have nearly enough difficulty to be end game, it’s just bad if they keep it like this. This mode just incentivizes barely building your characters
    To lvl 70 with lvl 111 talents…
    It baffles me how insanely good this game is on world building lore music environment design visuals, and yet be so bad on other aspects

    IT's restrictions is what ruins it. You have to bulid units you may not care about to bypass restrictions and fill teams with them to meet the quota. Because of this HOYO balanicng team expects you to be underpowered and puts a non-challenging enemies. And because of that all their effort of making blessing is wasting cause its so easy. In the end we have second Abyss with the hardest part being passing the restrictions to participate

      You don't have to build characters why does everyone think this? They give you trial characters even for characters you own. I've got a c6 toma and got to use a trial 1 because I didn't build him. Don't level the characters you don't like or you screw yourself! I think any character under level 70 you get the trial character.

    I mean, even as a late game player, the game mode ended up feeling "hard" on an RNG base...
    Act 7 I spend quite a lot of good units (to have a normal teamà, so I had non sense characters against Coppelius, which didn't work.
    Ultimately, there is 1 rollback allowed to previous Act, and I used a scuffed team for Act 7 with only 1 good DPS, and my better team for Coppelius...
    So yeah, if we even attempt non scuffed things, it just backfires us...

    I am a big hater or rng modes like SU or elysian realm, but.... I appreciate their existence, i feel they are good because even if i hate them, i can see why some people, especially more casual players like it, and it's just a mode to play when I'm just tired of abyss sometimes? Like it's a neat positive for the game's health, but i fucking struggle to comprehend why does this shit mode exists, random team with limited elements, so if one day mihoyo decides to go dendro geo anemo you get no reactions going against the fucking game itself, it's so limiting, it's like if SU only let you use break characters because the banner has a break characters and it's not like break works better but you can only use break

    The target audience is not clear. For old players, the content is boring and does not represent anything new and everything can be done by brute force. New players won't even be able to play due to the character limit. And because of this, the only endgame content of Abyss will be once a month...why

    Biggest problem is that it's way too easy. At least HSR has some challenging game modes, and more complex ones too. There's a reason HSR is making so much more money than Genshin right now. HSR actually releases interesting/good characters instead of bottom tier garbage like Sigewinne, and they give you content to play with said characters, unlike Genshin right now.

    Honestly, Genshin has displayed a lot of potentialwith their combat through limited events already. We had a rougelite mode once which was almost universally accepted. We also had gimmicky boss slayer events where skill expression is important to even survive. Not to mention all the countless events where you kill waves upon waves off enemies to get the highest score, requiring initial planning for the optimal position and attack pattern.
    Those events I listed actually feels like a different way to play Genshin using the exact same mechanics. This endgame feels like Floor 9-10 but random because enemies dies to a sneeze from TRIAL Clorinde.

    This mode highlights how heavily reliant players are on Xiangling and the other very few subdps. Idk why Genshin Impact seems hesitant to release off-field DPS characters and those with more creative kits. With the introduction of Natlan, I hope we'll see more variety. I suspect the developers are worried about power creep and replacing existing units. However, in my experience, new units don't replace the old ones; they just offer more team-building flexibility. For this game mode, it would be great if they could improve the AI. For example, certain characters could have a higher chance of appearing if another specific character is present. Currently, team compositions are so standardized that players are penalized for trying to be creative. And the subdps catergory is already so interesting in wuwa that its hard not to see the flaws with genshin.

      Even if they made a XL sidegrade, or Pyro Fischl or whatever, we still only have 4 team slots
      DPS/Healer (Bennett or whoever)/Off field Pyro/VV or other off field support.
      In a team like DPS/Bennett/Kazuha/XL you're either replacing Kazuha or XL for the new off fielder.
      Odds are their dmg contribution would be about the same as the others. Maybe worse if you lose out on VV + grouping in an AoE chamber.
      The only reason I can see for not releasing more off field Pyro is that they are saving it for Natlan/the Pyro Archon.

    HSR just released DIvergent Universe so new players can actually test their host, and plan they account according. In genshin we get scuffed randomizer that doesnt allow new players to enter and it is too easy for older accounts... nice design

    I don't like the new game mode at all. Too random and teams aren't coherant like Star Rail (dot, follow up, break). This game mode feels like one of the bad combat events let alone a new game mode. Now it's a whole month before a new spiral abyss.

    I don't mean to disagree with many of your points because I agree, but regarding teambuilding during your run it looked to me like you didn't use too much the function to add new companions so you were always super restricted to nonsensical teams with multiple onfielders. However, in my only playthrough so far, I usually had the ability to make more cohesive teams regarding roles even when they're not ideal meta teams.

    I played once and never wanted to come back. I've also seen people say it forces you to think outside the box but that thinking is just using thoma and kuki to trigger overload. If they want to make character for this mode it would be either a self sufficient character like neuvi or someone who can do dps with one skill and support with another while actually being competent in both roles

    it doesn't really make sense to release a mode intended to showcase an archetype not only without the premier support unit for said archetype on the banner in chevreuse, but also without her in the cast of trial units
    moreover, why not give a unit like that more vigor points on a trial build as like the star of the show or however they want to frame it thematically to tie together some of these uber scuffed teams and also simultaneously showcase the unit's role and potential

    They just picked the worst reaction to start this game mode with. The only real good overload team is a Chevreuse team and any other real team you make is either a mono pyro or mono electro team every other team is scuffed just because it is an overload team.

The Vigor system is shi, not everyones gonna have 18 characters under those elemental restrictions, theres barely anything new with this. I was expecting somehow similar to Simulated Uni.       It's aimed at children and the most casual spectrum of players, incentivising them to pull to widen their roster making quantity an appealing factor over quality when managing their wishes, increasing FOMO and propension to gamble on banners for 4S characters.     My favorite units are hydro (Nilou, Yelan, Furina) or need hydro (Hu Tao). The only character that I could enjoy playing this season was Keqing but even she needs a very specific team to feel good (which includes Nahida who was unavailable) and I ended up regretting picking her because I just ended up with too many on fielders (pls Hoyo give me a single Chevreuse). It wasn't hard to get full stars at all but also I didn't have any fun whatsoever, I spent years colleting, leveling and building my favorite characters to not be able to use them, like what? why? Whenever an abyss cycle is bad for Nilou I can just use another team with characters that I enjoy (on theory at least, truth is I bruteforce Nilou every abyss anyway), but for the first time I was completely locked out of playing any team I liked.
    I 100% agree that it doesn't feel like a permanent game mode, the fights are super easy to compensate the fact that 90% of the teams you'll play suck, and it's even worse if you don't have the main cast characters (having to use trial characters while also not being able to use their best supports is... sad). It's supposed to be a "roguelike" mode but I finished it and was like "God, I'm gonna have to do this again next month aren't I?" like how did they fuck up this badly. When they released Divergent Universe in this HSR's patch I immediately played like 30 runs because I wanted to see the new events, mechanics, curios, etc... and most importantly it feels good to play SU in HSR because you get to see your units deal 1 million damage if you pick the right blessings and curios, you can spam ultimates, get infinite turns, your units feel powerful and the buffs completely change how you play. In the Imaginarium Theater I get to see my Hu Tao deal 20k per charged attack instead of the 100k+ that I see in abyss, BUT if I get a bunch of boons she then can deal a MASSIVE 25k charged attack instead! That's such a joke, I felt like I was doing Hu Tao's trial instead of playing my top 1% Hu Tao.
    I feel like the best thing about Genshin's combat is their elemental reaction system because of how that makes characters synergize and how interesting synergistic teams can be. The fact that they decided to throw away all of that on a permanent end game mode is baffling to me.
    Why would I want to play electro without dendro? Without hydro? Chevreuse gave electro a new way to be played with pyro, sure, but they didn't even give a trial Chevreuse, and even if they did I would only be able to play her twice.
    The same thing goes for pyro, why would I want to play pyro without hydro?
    They made a game where combat revolves around 7 different elements and their reactions and randomly decided that now we only get to play 3 of them.
    And when they decide to put geo in a season? Now we'll only have 2 elements that actually react with each other which will be even worse.
    The game has several 3 elements reactions/interactions (Hyperbloom, Burgeon, Fridge, EC Swirl, Overvape) and guess what? You don't get to play them anymore because they all need hydro and we didn't give you hydro.
    I have access to less characters, less synergies, less elemental reactions and my characters now deal less damage. This didn't feel like playing Genshin Impact it felt like playing just _Genshin_ , like they took everything that was fun about it and what was left they used to make Imaginarium Theater. And it's permanent too...
    Man, I miss the spiral abyss...

    This game mode feels bad because genshin releases too many on-field dps units compared to off-field dps/supportive units. My clears are basically using 3 random on-fielders + flex and saving supports for boss fights. If they at least lvled and geared your unbuild units (like in divergent universe) we could use less popular off-field units (lisa, amber, lynette) but I am not gonna bother building them if I can already clear this mode with scuffed teams.

      You don't have to build characters because they give you trial characters lol. Just don't level them. Any character you own that's below I think level 70 you get fully built trial characters for. Leveling them and forcing yourself to build them is a personal choice.

      ​@@MrJayslayerjay ? You can't only use trail characters. Only Clorinde, Kuki, Arle, Thoma, Wanderer, and Faruzan have trails, plus you can borrow 1 character from a friend. The other 11 have to be your own, and they need to be at least LV 70 in order to be used.

    I think being super optimistic and trying to ignore or limit what you think helps you or the game is not ideal. So I'm glad you say what you think. I'm sure there will be people who disagree and will say, "This mode is great and you don't see the big scope," but for now, I think the majority agrees it feels like a temporary scuff event. Other combat-focused events are more fun than this. For me, the "vigor" thing is what ruins it.

    I would say it will be better with more floors, but in return it would require more characters. Adding level 100 monsters and having to climb up and saving your best characters for the end while also adhering to the team restrictions could get interesting. When you select easy, medium, hard, it visually looks like there is a missing section which could hold maybe 2 or 3 more chambers. Also if rumors are true about raising the level cap to 100, I’m sure this challenge adding monsters that are 100 will just feel like floor 11 if we have a roster that has level 100 characters so the difficulty wouldn’t get “too hard” if you just had the strong characters built for the end.
    That being said, pyro and electro has very fleshed out cast of characters while maybe the next month’s rumored cryo/hydro one will be more difficult. I barely have any cryo characters with no limited 5* cryo units besides qiqi and almost all the hydro characters are limited 5* units which I don’t have them all either. I think next month, I’ll have to build these 4* cryo units I don’t use like freminet, chongyun, and Layla (or at least get them to 70) in order to hit the character cap.

    I generally love Genshin. I’m a f2p player playing since March 2023 with a 6 month break. I can clear abyss with 33-34 stars. Could maybe squeeze 36 but. I just give floor 12 3-5 attempts and call it after that. Abyss is fun because it’s literally the only challenging content in the game and you need to strategize team building a bit. I play a level 60 support Lisa for Radien hyper carry in abyss often. In this new game mode, I can’t even *attempt^ to try hard mode because I don’t have enough level 70 characters. So I’m forced to play normal and it was stupid easy. Horrendous game design and makes me wonder if they beta tested this at all. My guess is this was rushed to try to keep up with WuWa. Other than the animations/menus/etc. there is no polish to this.

      The mode is literally there to incentivise you to build your unleveled characters. You have an entire month to raise characters from scratch if you wanted, and it only takes a couple of days to get a character to 70, which would get you into hard mode (and a couple of blue wishes as a bonus). Just like "building for abyss" means getting talent levels and artifacts, now, "building for theatre" means getting multiple characters to 70. If I refused to put artifacts on my DPS and then failed to clear abyss as a result, that's not horrendous game design, that's just me not playing a game mode as intended because I don't like it. And it's incredibly polished, they even recorded brand-new voice lines for every character.

      How many level 70 characters do you have? I was pretty upset about it too, until I figured out that it was 18 of any element. I originally thought it was only pyro/electro/anemo that counted. I still had to level a few characters but 70 unascended is not that bad on resources. But if you're f2p and only played for 6 months, maybe that's too much stuff

      @@acfpv I'm really sorry, I just checked again. I only have 14 pyro, electro, and anemo characters, so that was my assumption. But I think you still need 18 total of those types, and since I have two of the trial characters, that's four trial characters I don't have. So 14+4=18. I hope you didn't level up characters that didn't count.

    What you say on 6:21 is what i feel this mode will just show everyone. We barely have enough off field DPS to fill every slot and playing 2 or even 3 DPS on the same team feels bad.

    I actually did enjoy this new mode because it gave me a reason to explore different characters and teams that I never considered before. I guess it's part of the challenge to make the best of what we have and be creative. The strategy here is to save certain characters for certain stages where they can be optimal. I find it fun, but I also can see why some would find this frustrating especially for newer players who don't have that many characters built yet

    People have been talking about how its either too hard (newbies, vertical invested) or too easy (horizontal invested).
    Personally, I think that the actual true issue is what people loves about the game:
    THE ELEMENTAL SYSTEM.
    Playing this mode made me think of Wuthering Waves and made me wonder why such a mode could work for it but not Genshin?
    The answer ELEMENTAL SYSTEM. Wuwa's character do not depends on specific elements to be good and can be played solo through pure skill.
    In Genshin trying to play a Hu Tao without hydro app feels like shit because of how dependant she's of it.
    Genshin accentue team much harder than either WuWa, Star Rail or upcoming ZZZ.
    A character randomizer doesn't work because some unit rely on other element to work while some other needs specific unit (Xiangling-Bennett) to function and not be scuffed.
    For Genshin, a team randomizer is better as you would actually be rewarded for understanding the game combat design which this endgame shit on.
    But It will take actual effort for the devs to make research about it and see which team is good for casual or speedrunners and they of course don't want to bother so that's what you get.
    Elemental system that many loves is truly Genshin's curse and I see now why Kuro avoided that system for intro/outro or why Hoyo doesn't bother about design anymore.

      interesting analysis! I don't think all synergies are elemental related (e.g bennett reliant characters as you said), but yes a lot of characters do feel very scuffed when placed in a randomized team which is exposed in imaginarium theater. thanks for the comment!

      If they don't want to increase difficulty for the horizontally invested either remove elemental restrictions or characters restrictions (needing 4 characters per team).
      Or just do a team randomizer instead of character one.
      Like Going from Hypercarry Raiden to Aggravate Keqing to VV Arle etc...
      This way you get to choose between team and not character and thus not screwing over the main combat system of the game.
      They could also just add more endgame cattered to a niche but eh, Genshin team don't really care in general.
      There are many ways but if the devs are uninterested in doing it, there's only so much that can happen.
      I don't mind anymore because I have games now that craves my want (WuWa and ZZZ), but I can still feel for your disappointment.

    13:25 they can make it difficult, if the boons/buffs are actually significant enough to boost your DPS. They can make it so the latter stages would be difficult if you don't have the right buffs, and for those who wants more challenge, they can just ignore the boons.

    Everyone hates fl 9-11 from abyss so they made an entire new mode with it and added restrictions and RNG.
    This is so bad its not even funny and first of all its very easy but it feels so bad to play that even when you do it, it doesnt feel fun/rewarding.
    They literally had Labyrinth Warriors event that was Hades but in genshin and then they also have 4 SIMULATED UNIVERSE modes in HSR they could've made in genshin.
    But instead we got this lol.

    HSR randomiser would feel just as bad, imagine acheron without nihlity, imagine kafka without dot, firefly without any break support, DHIL with SP hungry team. Imagine Ratio without debuffs. Imagine topaz without fua. Wuwa randomiser would be fine koz our team synergies are non existent for now.
    but in general, the idea of a randomiser doesnt fit as an endgame mode. Its random, so it cant be hard, it cant be balanced around meta teams, And now we have to do this thing for gems, its not like tcg that we can ignore. Im gonna complain in every single survery about this, koz this is everything but not endgame.

    I think it can get better. Imagine if we can change the elements of a unit? Change a reaction? GEO + dendro - melts for example. that would be cool.
    still it feels poorly designed even in the way that you enter each stage, press the key, another menu etc. the poin + point - system feels bad

    This is just boring and the poses (which WAS the selling point for me) aren't universal. (I'm sorry but...)Star Rail would never. At least every character in Star Rail is sort of an onfielder and dual dps teams work except Robin and she's still right there. This looks impulsive and not well though out. I WANT to like this gamemode but it's just so disappointing.

    Tbh there was an event in like 4.4 (had the randomization aspect as well, not necessarily restricted to element but i forgot the actual restrictions) that I wanted to be permanent, and to my surprise hoyo actually did it. The fact that it feels like an event is not surprising.
    Abyss is definitely not similar to theater at all, with the sole similarity being that they use characters in the game.
    There's only 3 things that makes this hard which are the character quota, having builds for the characters that meet the quota, and managing the characters you get in theater (by having and using adequate knowledge for the game).
    My difficulty with this gamemode was that I decided to do the gamemode without changing the characters builds before starting (I just forgot to beforehand) and the fact I had very few character choice cards and lost all my purple currency doing a mystery cache which set me back further. There were two acts (second boss and double consecrated beasts) that were stupidly difficult for me since I wanted to save my best team for the last act, but I thoroughly enjoyed such difficulty as a whole.
    I'm a 3-year vet in this game and I was particularly thrilled with my attempt at theater, which I'll admit was due to my negligence of putting builds on my characters before starting, which created accidental artificial difficulty. If such difficulty didn't happen, or if I wasn't on a whole Bennett boycott for 4.7, then my opinion would probably be more similar to yours mechanically.
    Hu tao dual dps comps was actually fun for me to explore with due to me wanting to find better use for her crit passive. Ofc it isn't meta or "optimal" but who cares in this game mode as long as it doesn't feel janky it's good imo.
    Side-note: if there was a burgeon season for this gamemode, then it would be absolutely crack/easy due to the access of vape, nilou bloom, and could be another main archetype depending on special cast. The scuff would be very limited if any at all.

    My main issue is how restrictive this new "endgame" is.
    Compared to HSR, where you have SM,MOC, PF and the new one. Sure, some characters will shine more than most characters in a specific content :
    Ruan Mei/SW : SU
    Aventurine/Jade : PF
    Firefly/Boothill : New one
    Break DPS : MOC
    But it doesn't stop you to play what you want. You can play your Himeko for MOC if you want.
    SW in PF if you want.
    Use Break DPS in MOC even if the buff will not benefit them.
    The current PF benefit DOT, but what stop you to use your Jingliu - Blade - Aventurine if you want ? Nothing.
    Also, only increase the to 200 and not speed up is still a joke and the fact you are still block to farm what YOU WANT behind day of the week 💀

    I just hate how short it is, like shit, simulated universe is longer PER RUN, and its something that you’re supposed to farm AND do weekly (which i hate, too much farm and its way too long, its a chore), however, for a 2 week gated content that length would be amazing tbh, but this gamemode is way too forgiving too, i lost a star if i remember good and still got all rewards.
    And i didn’t like how they allowed pyro and prohibited hydro, like huh? Half of the pyro units in this game are vape units, diluc gaming with xianyun hu tao arlecchino damn even lyney with furina (not vape but one of his best teams), xiangling is there too, if you don’t have a built chevreuse overload teams are lackluster and (imo) boring to play, you do like NO dmg, and the enemies just get pushed a lot

I almost had a stroke playing overload bc i always will think "i could be doing this team and be doing more dmg and playing different (i never play burgeon and only sometimes vape) but im stuck in this overload", i started having fun at the last moment with lyney monopyro bc thats an actual proper team withs synergies and fun to play
      just instead of allowing 3 elements, idk, allow 4 bc jesus christ hydro is like on pretty much every freaking team there is, and there's a reason for that they're versatile most of the time they allow STRONG fun to play comps, it was a bad move, or they could've allowed 3 elements, but add an useful hydro unit, along with sigewinne like furina who is on banner, or xingqiu or even barbara already allows vaping or burgeon

    I think they should loosen the restriction up to four and have special guests also includes characters from your roster that are not part of the element rotation. Because there can be a season where the elements picked will screw up other accounts because not enough requirements.
    Edit: I also want to add that I find this mode pretty fun once you get to play it. Obviously there needs more improvement to the balancing, accessibility, and the randomness. But for me, as it stands the restriction kinda killed my excitement but conceptually, I can see this mode being fun if they improve upon it.

    honestly idk why but I actually liked it my only criticism is the lack of support cards and ways to buff and debuff your teams because now it feels like genshin but with scuffed teams.
    but I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt since they are at least trying something to cater to endgame players so I'm hopeful for the future versions

    What they should have done was allow you to pick any character on any level. I think the 2 charges is idiotic but they still could have done that if you could pick any character at any point. The forced stupidity and the sheer luck in who you pull when is horrendous design. It isn't about horizontal investment BECAUSE YOU CANNOT USE YOUR CHARACTERS AS YOU WISH. It is rng garbage. I went in without bothering to read anything and showed up at the boss with a complete crap team (yes that is on me but next time through rng was terrible on characters who came out first). Would have been easy if I could pick my actual characters that I actually put in on the stages I wanted (which is what horizontal investment is).

    Honestly they might have lost me with this. I'm waiting to see what happens with abyss in 2 weeks, since it used to reset layouts every 6weeks and rewards every 2weeks, but now its rewards every 4weeks what are they gonna do? Reset the layout every 4weeks or every 8weeks? If its every 8weeks I think I'm just out, thats so little content, just nothing to do with my characters.

    It’s so glaringly obvious that this new mode is just a mechanism to push more player spending and imo that’s about it. They want people to feel like they have to build all the characters they have and if they don’t have many to get more. And not just spending on banners, but resin top ups as well now. Because there is just no way most players can build that many characters on the resin they give us.
    You would have to have been like a 1.0 player to have been ready for this. I’ve been playing - daily - for 1.5 years now. Spending all my resin daily. And I had no where near enough characters ready for this, despite having almost 65 characters. I am definitely not f2p but I don’t pay for resin top ups, so most of my roster is level 60 and below.
    I just think this whole thing is just a way to force players to spend more money and I find that really scummy of them.

    1. the stages are easy bc they are supposed to be clearable with the trial characters (lvl 80, 4star weapon 80, talents 8) AND with scuffed teams.
    2. it makes recent "redundant characters" like sigewinne get more value bc IT requires you to have a lot of characters somewhat built, so more characters that are just "good enough" to help you clear makes sense.

    As a day 1 player, this gamemode did not feel fun to play. There's never been a point where hoyo rewards or designs characters with consideration for double dps. It's simply not a skill they've ever focused on in either design or player expectation. But it's far too easy to just get sucked into triple dps teams that feel horrific to play, I've simply become accustomed to rotations feeling natural and logical, but if I'm jumping from hu tao to Chlorinde it just makes for a bad gameplay experience. I hope that hoyo iterates on this idea and makes it a better gamemode, especially since it came at the cost of less of the gamemode I actually enjoyed. But I'm personally dreading future seasons of this content where there is even less synergy on my account and if it does get harder later on I see myself falling out of the gamemode entirely. This seems like they put as much thought into this as they did the "artifact loadout" we got: none at all

    Trying to compare it to simulated universe is something I see a lot which kind of make sense but I think this game mode feels so bad because of the way it makes you play this bad teams. it doesn’t incentivise you to play specific teams like SU where you can choose a path to buff a certain playstyle. it just forces you to put some garbage nonsense teams.
    Here you might find yourself playing soucrose wanderer arrlechino chlorind but under no circumstance you will find yourself playing black swan topaz qq and hmc in any game mode in hsr

    I had a bad experience with it. I did it in the mid difficulty, with actually no problems at all. It was easy for me. But I can't do hard mode couse I lack 3 characters... Im playing since November, log in daily, do all stuff, and I don't have Mora or exp to level up more characters... Gonna still farming. But is ridiculous that in almost a year, I don't have enought to play the new game mode.

    After reading some comments I think it is worst than I thought I had fun while playing it honestly. But objectively it’s poorly designed it’s really restrictive whoch makes it not easy enough for new players but not hard enough for older ones. I think some fixes that would genuinely make it good. Changing it to 4 elements instead of 3 with buffs to the elemental reactions. I would say allow solo runs but to me that just means it’s to easy so I would still keep the four limit restriction but instead add every character of those elements to your roster and have them built, the trial characters still having more meaningful buffs but if you don’t like them or don’t wanna play them you can just choose not to. It should also just be longer it’s so short for a month it should refresh every week or so also making it more gimmicky ig would be the word to make it feel different more between the combat.

    One thing that I just considered. I never only had four characters to choose from, like you did there.
    I always had around 6 or 7 options, because I tried to unlock the units early. Isn't that your problem with the "scuffed teams"?
    Like, sure, Bennett and Fischl would still only be able to be played twice if you're unlucky with the blessings that recovers Vigor. But still, you could use Bennett in two teams and Fischl in two teams and they don't need to be together. That's already 4/8 fights. If you can distribute your units like that, you will end up with at least a good three unit core teams, imo. That's how I felt playing at least.
    Unless you think the first team you played of Wanderer, Kuki, Thoma and Faruzan is scuffed. But I think it's functional.
    There were times I had a three healer team (Baizhu, Kuki, Sigewinne), but the reactions were actually useful as well, with Alhaitham. Would that be scuffed?
    From my experience, at max one of the eight battles I was forced to use units that don't do anything (like a Keqing, Hu Tao, Sethos, Clorinde team, where I simply didn't use Clorinde because I don't know how to play her). But I was able to make a proper rotation between Hu Tao and Keqing (their CD actually align a little) and Sethos was useful to knock down some flying robots. And I only did this team because I wanted to let the other units for the next battle, and it was worth it.
    The rest of the seven battles (in average from my plays), I was able to have a defensive option, being a shield and/or healer.
    Also, it was fun thinking on how to use certain characters and try to solve their needs. Sethos need energy, so Dori+Fischl was actually more decent than I expected with him against the dendro chicken. Things like that.

    I have done 2 runs on normal mode and have only gotten rewards for 6 stars do I need to unlock hard mode to get 8 stars

    1000% agree about the mode feeling like floor 10 of the Abyss difficulty wise.
    But yeah the point of this mode is to manage your resources and build better teams towards the end with the resources they give you. You getting scuffed teams is in fact intended imo. For an example from the 3rd stage onwards I was able to make pretty functional teams and it getting better and better each and every stage I go through. Imo if your account is strong enough you just ignore booms all together and just build your character roster each level until you have your whole roster. If they enhanced the difficulty similar to the floor 12 of the Abyss I can see this being a lot harder as sometimes you may not have a healer or you get multiple carries.
    All in all this reminds me of the time me and my friends used to do the Abyss with a wheel making our teams. As a end-game whale type player this was was pretty fresh to me and I actually enjoyed it regardless of the difficulty. That being said I am looking forward to the mode hopefully scaling upwards towards more updates simialr to the Abyss.
