The most tricky part of removing the stereo is inserting the keys correctly. After I removed my stereo I filmed the keys being inserted again to show exactly how the mechanism works and to try to portray how hard you need to press the keys in, and what the correct fit might feel like.
To remove the original stereo from the Ford Mondeo mk3 or Ford Focus mk2 you'll need to buy a set of 4 removal keys.
The Ford Mondeo MK III was produced in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007.

Fantastic, thanks. Took me a minute or 2 to find how to remove the keys, just push on the spring clips on the radio - once it's out.
Thanks Matt.. your efforts saved me a lot of hassle. Only had 2 keys but I managed to undo the others with a craft blade pivoted in the right direction.
Just spent 2 hours trying to do this. I still have a non functioning radio stuck in my car, but now with 4 of these keys stuck there forever. Hopefully a passing thief will see them and do the job for me.

@@Mustbetrue133 yes, but that means getting the radio out first! Try pushing the keys inwards (toward the centre of the radio), to release the radio.
I wished it would have been that easy and quick in my car. I tried that yesterday. I needed about half an hour to get the radio out. I was very close to surrender, actually. My fingers are still swollen.
I think it's because the keys (which were allegedly made for this radio) were not wide enough, or maybe the little groove in the keys was just too deep. While they snapped in nicely, they didn't unlock the radio.
Here is how I've finally done it:
put the keys in until you here a "click". Now push the keys to the outside while still pushing them in a little. Then keep pushing them to the outside while pulling the radio out. Obviously, this is less difficult when you have someone to give you a hand.
Another thing that might help: My radio was in a 2007 ford fiesta. In this car, you can easily remove the glovebox and then reach the radio from behind the dash. So instead of pulling it out, I pushed it out from behind. This made the key-handling a bit easier.
If your keys get stuck and you can't remove them: that's probably a sign that they are perfectly in place. If you want to remove them anyway, I think the only option is brute force. If you don't want to hurt your fingers, put something between your finger and the bloody sharp edge of the key. In my case, it was a tissue.
Another, probably much less frustrating option: Just drive to your local ford dealer and ask someone to remove it for you. I guess they have much better tools than what you can bye on the internet.

unfortunatelly one of the clips on mine is broken, because i didn't have this tool and used other things to remove it in the past. Does anyone has an idea what to do?? Should i remove it completely?
If you change the radio to a different one, can you still use the volume control on the steering wheel?
I’ve seen head units that list steering wheel controls in their spec, so it’s definitely possible although I can’t give you any details

I bought keys at Halfords but they look different can't get them to lock in and when they do stupid radio still won't come out it's driving me bonkers
@Boden Morrison just did mine with keys from eBay. Tricky (esp with flimsy keys), but got there eventually. My keys look like the ones in the vid.
