  • Easy DIY how to: Remove and reinstall the dashboard center console on a Ford Mondeo Mk3 (2000-2007). You would need to do this to replace certain light bulbs, or access wiring looms behind the console.
    The car shown is a 2002 pre-facelift - the facelift version varies a little.
    You will need:
    - Flat blade
    - Short handle pozidriv screw driver
    - Magnetic screwdriver for replacing lower screws
    - Flashlight
    - Headunit keys and/or security code for reconnection.

    Thank you Craig! I am a seventy year old female. I had my wing mirror vandalised and sourced a second hand replacement. I managed to fit it but it's not working. Thanks to you, I've discovered the fuse box and ordered the correct replacement fuse. Hopefully, by tomorrow I'll be back on the road!

    Does this car uses any vacuum line to operate the automatic A/C? I hear a hissing from the vents when the A/C is on and it's not related to the refrigerant gas or compressor.

    Thank you for this video, for months now i have been thinking of replacing all my center console and dashboard bulbs with LED's to be brighter. However can you please advise what voltage and wattage the original bulbs were? Were they 12v 1.2watts or 2.3watts etc. Also you mentioned in a post that you had no luck with your green LEDS as it looked bad. What White LEDS did you try?

    • @CraigsDIY
      @CraigsDIY  6 років тому +1

      They're T5 bulbs, I believe 1.2 W. I didn't try white LEDs as they wouldn't solve my problem, and introduce a new problem since white LEDs are not full spectrum so your color filtered dash will be unevenly lit. My idea here since most of the climate control box is green, was to use green LEDs, but it doesn't really work either as the color doesn't match properly. On top of that most of the T5 LEDs you can find are way too powerful and forward projecting, meaning you end up with intense bright hotspots in front of where the bulb is. Finally the ones you see in the video lasted about a week before they all died - Chinese quality.

  • @VlatkoNo
    @VlatkoNo 7 років тому

    Hey Craig...about those heater control dials...I've noticed that yours are also looking quite worn out - I'm thinking about the green lighting on the three dials, I have the same 'problem' though...Have you managed to fix the background lightning by installing those green LEDs?
    I want to fix this lightning problem, because tbh it doesn't look nice at dark. :/

    • @CraigsDIY
      @CraigsDIY  7 років тому +1

      There's not an easy way to fix unfortunately. I tried buying another unit (wreckers) but it turned out worse than mine. The problem is the green goo Ford uses for the filter just deteriorates over time and by now they've all gone.
      My reasoning with the green LEDs - beyond longevity so I don't have to replace them again - was they would shine equally green through the worn spots and the extant filter. In practice this half works, but it still looks very patchy. Also the pure green LED is not the correct yellow-green...
      I also had to 'cap' the LEDs you see in the video with black paint, to stop them shining hot-spots on the dials.
      The only perfect solution would be a new unit from Ford ($$$), or to switch to the climate control unit which is obviously different. Or to accept that mucking about with a 2002 car is pointless :)

    Hi. This is a great guide thanks. Can you tell me please what the bulb type / LED type is for this job - I'm about to do exactly this repair.

    • @CraigsDIY
      @CraigsDIY  7 років тому

      They're little T5 bulbs. I suggest you don't use LEDs though, it hasn't worked well for me. You need full spectrum white (incandescent) bulbs to allow the green, blue, and red filters to work properly. Green LEDs are the wrong color as the 'green' of the dials is actually a chartreuse and I can't find any suitable LEDs. If you do go with LEDs, you want the lowest power you can find, and side projecting only, otherwise they will be too bright.

    I need to replace mine, but i'm unable to fit it. It just doesn't slide in, because the handle gets in the way. I'm trying to find a video or some manual on forums, but now luck.

    Could you do a video on how to reach the a/c blower and clean or replace it.? It's been bothering me to death with very boring sort of chirping noise whenever a/c is on. I know your car is a right hand drive (as opposed to a normal one), but it could probably still be useful.

    • @CraigsDIY
      @CraigsDIY  6 років тому +1

      The blower is under/behind the glovebox, at the front of the passenger footwell. You can see the cylinder if you just stick your head under there. Removing the glovebox will help. I'm unlikely to do a video as I don't need to do anything to it, unless I upgrade to climate control... which is a lot of work on a low value car so probably won't happen.

    • @nikolajelovac1648
      @nikolajelovac1648 6 років тому

      I actually saw the blower through the air-intake opening when I was replacing the air-filter - as per your instructions (btw, people, change the filter yourself when you can, mine was all crooked on both ends, I guess the people from the workshop who did that didn't wanna bother too much). The way I see it, it should be accessible through the glovebox (when removed). The thing is, I read an instruction in German on how to replace/remove the blower and it required removal of the glovebox, but also removal of the lower parts of the central dash, which I'm not too fond of doing, and I don't see the point of, because, as I said, I think the blower should be accessible just through the glovebox opening. Maybe you could borrow a friend's lhd Mondeo with climate control? :)

    Is there a way to only remove the AC vents? Because they are stuck closed and I don't want to remove the whole center console unit and I don't have the keys to remove the stock radio... 💔

    • @CraigsDIY
      @CraigsDIY  6 років тому

      No, as can be seen in this video they are integrated with the console itself, glued/fused together. Should be easy enough to find some radio keys, have a look on eBay.
      FYI I think you can also access the driver side vent workings if you remove the plastic from under the steering wheel.

    Will removing the center console be the way to go to reach the evaporator (to give it a nice anti-socksmell treatment/nice cleaning)?

    • @CraigsDIY
      @CraigsDIY  5 років тому +1

      You won't reach the evaporator housing without ripping into the dashboard itself. However if you take this off you could spray some treatment into the ducts which will be a bit more accessible. Much the same could be accomplished with a flexible hose tho, poked thru the grills.
