Reading to your baby or toddler? 5 questions to ask yourself

- Here are some things to think about if you want to read to your baby or toddler, but have no idea how and where to begin!
Reading to a baby can be strange, they can barely hold up a book and you don't know whether they even understand what you're reading. I get a lot of comments on how to get the baby or toddler to be actually interested in the books you're trying to read.
Some links to info on the benefits of reading during early childhood:

Timestamps:
1. Are you expecting too much? 00:52
2. Are you choosing a good time to read? 3:10
Avoiding times when they are in a different schema. Good times to read for us were at bedtime, naptime and when waiting for a burp in the first few months.
3. Are you putting books out of sight? 6:15
It is tempting to be really tidy when it comes to a baby's toys and books, but leave some around where they can see and naturally gravitate towards. Keep books in a basket or an open shelf where they can see the covers. We used a cart from Ikea, because we had that on hand, and we had a lot of books!
4. How do you feel about reading? 7:34
5. Are you really reading the book? 9:00
Wondering what books to start with? You'll find a ton of recommendations in the following videos. But remember to take your baby/toddler's interests and cues into consideration, these are just what we enjoyed in our home!

A little about me:
I'm Vidya, a mom to a newly turned 4 year old little boy. When I'm not stepping on legos and answering a gazillion questions (often at the same time), I make videos about pregnancy and new mommyhood. I would love for you to join me on this journey!
Do LIKE this video and SUBSCRIBE to my channel if you enjoy videos like these.
I would read books to my son and he enjoys listening... I learnt new ways in reading to him. Thank u very much.
Hey Vidya! It’s always really insightful to watch your videos and even your Instagram posts. I loved the way you are connecting your little one with nature through books and practically implementing the same through actually planting and sprouting! Although my son is just 5 months but I enjoy his expressions whenever I flip through the pages of the books for him. He loves watching pictures and graphics. I will thank you for this as I picked up this particular activity from you and introduced him to books in his very 1st month ❤️❤️
That's amazing Preity, you have a little bookworm too. Many fun times lay ahead! Thank you, I grew up in cities, not very rooted in nature, and wanted to make a conscious effort to do otherwise with Vik.
It's quite a pleasant surprise to see one of your videos premiered! Had been awaiting them. 🙂
Thank you, this was quite a big gap, even by my standards 😂😂
I m also
Happy to see u back vidya❤️
That too with a wonderful video😍
Thank you so much!
All you said reflects back to my experiences. I am still very dicey about investing into books. I have bought 4-5 Board books for my toddler till now which he usually loves to read after massage. We go one by one on each page and touch the textures, make the sounds etc. BUt during the day he hardly picks up the book and even if we try to read something to him, he runs off to play something else. Will surely check on the books link. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Amazing!!! It's really great. Thanks for sharing wonderful tips vidhya
My pleasure 😊
Great video! You have a new subscriber! Just to add: I also think it can be an option to read a loud to a child who is playing and not necessarily sitting down next to you. Especially when they don't like sitting still. That way they're still hearing the parents voice and intonation and all the vocabulary, and they can also see that the parent is enjoying reading books themselves. Also when a baby turns away it's face, it's not always because they're not interested... they may still be listening.
Absolutely true, thanks for adding this!
Very well explained !👍
Thanks vidya for posting such amazing videos. Our collection of books for my 22 month old toddler are mostly your recommendations. I am a huge fan of all of your videos. Keep them coming 😀👍

I had came across your video when I was searching for “what’s is my diaper bag” and then I saw your other books videos. I started reading to her when she was 4 months old, n now at 11 months as soon as i finish the content on a page, she would turn the page and also lift the flap for book “where is baby’s belly button”. Thank you again Vidya😊

Hi Vidhya. I have been following your videos from my pregnancy and I cant thank you enough for the level of information each one of them has given. I followed most of them starting from pregnancy exercises, packing bag, baby essentials, activities, books, tantrums and what not.. Thank you!!! My baby is now 1.5 years and I am planning to stop BF. Panicked when I couldnt find your video on that topic. Please share your experience and tips on how to stop BF. Thanks again, much love.

My baby is going to turn 3 next month. We are struggling to make her draw lines or colour simple figures. She has no interest in even holding the pencil. Can you please make a video of how to teach them or encourage them to draw lines or circles or anything before teaching them proper writing. And also what is your experience in this? At what age your child has learned these things or whether he is in the process? Kindly reply.
Miss u Vidya n ur videos

Hi new subscriber here, I live in uk and at home we don't speak English so the million dollar (pound😉) question is do I read the books in English or my language specially when I'm explaining things for my baby. Would appreciate your answer.
You could do both, they pick up multiple languages very easily at a young age!
Hello mam....am following all ur videos since i was pregnant....i love ur perspective towards parenting....u r doing a great job....

Hi,, my baby is 6 months old as she is completely on Breastfeed. She does potty 3 to 4 days since birth,, is thr any problem? Also when exactly to start solid for my baby n wat to give her first food? Please reply
I have a series on baby led weaning, and solid foods on my channel. You might find those useful! If you're worried about constipation, you can increase water intake since you're breastfeeding. You need extra water to produce breastmilk. As always check with your doctor if you're worried.
Mam how to message you in personal.. I need a help please
Hi Vidya... I would like to know if you have gone through checkup before pregnancy.... Plz help
