  • Team Lead, Allan Muhereza Murangira, was on NTV Uganda sharing about waste management, climate change and efforts in climate justice to address this, with reference to the Kiteezi Landfill debacle. Climate change has intensified weather patterns, leading to more frequent and severe rainfall events that can destabilize landfills. The Kiteezi disaster exemplifies how climate change can directly impact vulnerable communities by causing physical destruction and psychological distress.
There is a pressing need for a cohesive National Waste Management Strategy that integrates urban planning with sustainable practices. Increased investment in infrastructure, public awareness campaigns on waste segregation, and regulatory enforcement are essential for effective waste management.
YTJN, with support from the Austrian Development Cooperation is running a project with University students on the theme, “Youth Action for Climate Justice through Sustainable Development.” The project aims to enhance youth capacity to meaningfully participate in climate finance mobilization and accountability at national and subnational levels as a means to achieve climate justice in Uganda.
