A possible reason could be that while the liturgy is strictly adhered to traditional ways, the remaining elements were assimilates to the local US lifestyle. While showing a little shoulder maybe sexual in nature to Keralites, it is not for US malayalis. Besides, if everything was kept strict orthodox, you will not have any of these beautiful Malyalam liturgy. Full disclosure: I'm agnostic, born to Malankara Catholic family and enjoys the Malankara liturgy.
