I have T470 20HE. I tried your method, but (maybe I either overheard it or missed it) but there is one step missing before removing secondary battery - disable built-in battery in BIOS. Then it was really reactivated. Now it works, but because my primary battery reached 1088 cycles (secondary have 220), I will replace it anyway...
BTW - problem was starting after battery gauge reset. There is still message on primary "Failed: Unexpected error occurred."
Anyway - Thanks for your video.

Eric, thanks so much for this information. My T470 also was sticking around 51-52%. This video enabled me to diagnose which battery was misbehaving (the internal). Re-initializing did the trick to get it to recharge. I then cancelled my Amazon order for a replacement external battery ;-).

Hey. I'm an IT Tech. I just had a customer drop off a laptop which was stuck at 58 percent and not going any higher, unplugging the mains lead and plugging it dimmed and undimmed the screen, so that showed that was working. There's actually a few modes on the the Lenovo battery software on this laptop and amongst them are conservation mode and normal mode, on conservation it will stick at 55-60 percent to prolong battery life, setting it to normal and the battery has charged beyond 58 percent. So if anyone else has come across this - that's probably worth checking - literally two clicks of the mouse :D

    Hi Eric!
I have T480s with 1 internal battery. It's stopped charging and works only with charger connected, showing battery charging icon with 0% and didn't change/charge the battery. As I understood from your video, I have to re-initialize the battery. Could you please advise how to make it? I've already tried drivers update from lenovo site, but it didn't help.
    Thanks!

I also have a t480 and have tried these steps exactly however have the error, "The battery is not detected. try reinstalling or recharging the battery to solve the problem.". I know there is a battery in there, do you have any suggestions on what to try. also tried updating bios but didint do anything. there is also a small hole on the back that supposedly can reset the internal battery but this doesnt seem to do anything either :(

I have had the reverse issue also, where only the internal battery will charge on T470 (dual battery model) and T480's.
I have also had the process you use work for one charge and then stop once the battery's have been discharged again and drop back to only one charging again.

Do you have a list of vendors whose batteries work with W520.
I have purchased multiple batteries and none of them charge.
Something about the firmware and not getting a Bat serial number.

Hi, I have a t480s, it turns on only when plugged in. It shows 0% on battery icon and has the little charging icon as well. The light is orange on the side indicating it’s charging. I can’t do any “critical updates” because the battery needs to be at a certain percentage. Tried reset etc anything else I can try before getting a new battery? This was fine just a few weeks ago. Thanks!!

I had the problem with battery 1 not present on my T450. Just never saw this before as my battery monitor never showed it would have 2 batteries. Tried a few things, but to no avail. I ordered two new batteries (external and internal) as I have had this laptop for about 4.5 years and I was down to about 1 hour of battery time after a charge. Once they arrived and with the case removal tool, I took it apart and found that my reconditioned laptop (bought from Best Buy) had never had an internal battery. It just had a plastic spacer in place of the battery. Put in the 2 batteries and now everything is fine. Doing the charge/discharge cycle now to calibrate the batteries (or the battery monitor).

You can do one of 2 things: 1. Go through the Device Manager and Uninstall the battery driver (if you are unsure of which one, keep it plugged in and uninstall the drivers called "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery driver" then restart your computer. 2. Remove the second battery, turn on the laptop, log in, then shut down the computer and plug the battery back in

Eric, I bought a brand new Lenovo Yoga Slim Pro 7i that came with limited USB-C charging capability + a standard rectangular charger. The thing is I want to use a Thunderbolt 3 dock on my desk for light usage which provides 65W, enough for casual browsing. It charged via USB-C only after I unboxed it and being the geek I am, I updated the laptop fully (Windows + Lenovo utilities + BIOS), ever since than and a thousand troubleshooting attempts and guides, I cannot get it to accept charging a tall via USB-C. I have 3 compatible USB-C chargers + the one that did work when I unboxed it. I think for some reason they blocked it in the BIOS. Tried the Novo button too. Any ideas?

    Hi Lapfix,
Unfortunately after 1.3 months my Thinkpad T 15g Gen 1 is not charging when turned on. In fact, it becomes a bit slower and lagged when I plug the AC to the machine. It does not show the charging icon and does not charge it.
I bought a new AC ADAPTER thinking that this one was going to work, but in fact it did not. I bought another one since I had the option to return it and did not work either.
I went ahead and ordered the original battery from Lenovo and I installed it by myself and it did not work. However, I had the opportunity to turn it on again since the new battery brought a little bit of energy.
I then realized that if i connected it when it was off then the little light right behind besides the electricity port it would turn on.
I performed the Vantage and looked out for issues but nothing was found. I uninstalled the drivers and installed it again but it did not work either.
When the machine was on I pushed down the power button until it went off and then kep it for 15 secs more down but it did not work either.
There is a little reset button on the otherside of the laptop which I pushed for 30 seconds but nothing worked.
It seems to be that was an update that the computer had or it is a problem with the port. However, it is very difficult to see that this is a port problem since I do not move my laptop and it also charges when it is off.
The other thing that I did realize is that it used to turn on the Circle of the ThinkPad logo on top of the laptop when it was off and charging and now it does not do it.
It was just all of the sudden. The problem started 3 days ago and in three days I have done that.
I do really love my laptop but I am hating lenovo now since this is the first time I spend 3.5K in a laptop that does not work and just aftr 1.3 months of purchase and 3 months have passed since warranty is over.
I hope you are able to help me with this issue and I apologize for being too long in this message.

Thanks for this video. I have a slightly different problem: my T480, when plugged in, only charges on and off, sometimes switching between states (charging/not charging) every few seconds. Each time it switches, the screen goes black for a couple of seconds, making the laptop unusable when plugged in and without an external monitor. The charging seems more consistent (maybe even completely consistent, I'm not sure) when the laptop is completely turned off. The problem is also there when using the other usb-c port to charge.
Been trying to figure this out for months now, with no success - it all started right after the guarantee period ended. Do you have any ideas about what causes this or how to fix it? I would appreciate it a lot!!

    • @lapfix
      @lapfix  Рік тому +2

Try reinstalling the battery driver I showed you and see if that helps.

    • @kewner8556

@@lapfix Thanks. The problem persists when I remove battery 2, so I tried the battery driver solution with battery 2 removed. I doesn't seem to make a difference. Also, the driver version of the battery in device manager doesn't seem to change after uninstalling it and installing the downloaded drivers.
Another strange thing is that when I look at the battery in Lenovo Vantage while plugging the laptop in, the status becomes "AC power adapter is connected", but then changes to "15 W USB-C power is connected", which then disappears (as if not plugged in at all) - then the screen goes black again, to start the process all over 1-2 seconds later..
Does this maybe give you any hints about what's going on? I'm considering to get some Black Friday deal for a new laptop, but I'd really rather not..

i cant tell you how to fix the charging but if you want to get rid of the black screen affect all you have to do is go into settings and change the screen Hz/refresh rate to be the exact same whether its on battery power or plugged in. that will eliminate the black screen when its changing between those modes.

If only 1 battery is visible, that means it is not being detected. Yes, try downloading the driver and see if it comes up (or uninstall in device manager like in the video). Otherwise, try the method to remove it to see if it will initialize it. If that doesn't work, most likely the battery has an issue as it is at one time was detected, now isn't
