Sridhar Kaushik it is fortunate bit there is some truth to it. As you rightly pointed out, is India was home to center's of learning long before the west had any meaning existence as a civilization! However when the British came hey saw a different India. Nalanda was in ruins, Islamic rule had morphed Hindu traditions. Only a poor shadow of our heritage survived in morphed form and what remained was full of inaccuracies. The British judged against this limited backdrop. Initial education introduced by the British trained Hindus in Sanskrit and Vedas and Muslims in Arabic. Macaulay wanted to change that and he said intentioned were actually good. His ideas and as that all of thr knowledge in English like Newtonian physics and other scientific renaissance if Europe should be taught to Indians. That was we benevolent by all standards. However Macaulay believed that since India does not have one common language, Indians should first learn English and then translate all the great works of Europe into Indian languages. This is there in Macaulay minute. However such translation never happened and our languages never got enriched with new knowledge. That was our undoing rather than that of the British and it left in us a deep impression that we owe our renaissance to the British! That makes us feel inferior, secondary... Added to this was a strong leftist linience in many of our leaders and academics that assured natural patronage to mindless abandonment of our traditions. Any attempt to reassert ourselves only came to be seen as bigotry. This was because well to go academics rarely saw the need to take pride in our own past. I think it changing now. There is a resurgence of the sanathana dharma, a reassertion of our tradition values and knowledge, and what is more important an acknowledgement by the western scholars of India's contributions to math, science, astronomy, grammer, political science, economics . This acknowledgement is now mainstream outside India. It is only inside India that our politicians have only shrill cries of " Hindu fundamentalsm" whenever there is is attempt to redeem our past glory!

I have to differ on Hoodbhoy's sir observation on Hinduism. Hinduism as a religion is not as fixed as Islam. There is no one book. Even the philosophy had six different versions to begin with in the relatively older texts. The experiments of evolution in terms of interpretation, understanding and discovery continued as late as Shankaracharya. It is only after the beating Hindus got from Islamic invaders that new unscientific and more belief based texts like Ram charit manas gained priority. And so did Bhakti movement which made Hindus more believers in distant and controlling God and not God as nature and law, to be studied and discovered. But even today in the south Indian states and West Bengal, which traditionally studied classical scriptures, maintain the love for scientific learning. It is not that Nehru made us secular and scientific but many of us accepted these values. Our adaptability is not just a sign of our opportunism but non rigid and open religious culture.

the thing that i do not understand is that why do people always keep science and religion very separate. Yes there are scientific ideas, inventions that contradict with religion but that does not mean that in every scientific invention, theory, religion should not be involved. These two can go hand in hand. I believe that those inventions which benefit the humanity in general are also acceptable in religion. But the theories like evolution have no application in common lives so why persue it?

Finally newly converted Turks took over and were at helm of Islam and founded Ottoman Caliphate , governed from Istambul/ Constantinople . This Caliphate finally came to end after defeat of Ottomon Turkey in World War 1. Hope my knowledge about Islamic history is right. Correct me if wrong.

I respect Dr. Parvez , but his knowledge about Hinduism is inadequate. Hinduism is one religion which doesn't have blasphemy and concept of Qayamat or day of judgement. Hinduism doesn't have one fixed book to be followed as must, rather debate and discussion on various issues was always encouraged and direction was always based on the outcome of these debates and discussion. No subject was considered taboo. There are vedas on politics, civics, economics, medicine and surgery, mathmatics and even on sex. Since Hinduism is inherently secular and based on the concept of Peace and welfare of the world, it was easy to adopt secularism in India.
Hoodbhoy says that from the 9th to 14th century Islam was flourishing. Those were the years when they initially invaded most portions of the Middle East and Europe, killing Millions and causing me misery to a wide part of the Earth. They forcefully converted or bullied the entire intellengtsia of the conquered areas. All the books and so called scientific marvels of that era was mostly written in Persian and non Arabic languages initially. Knowledge from India and Europe which was already in place was translated and called the Islamic inventions. If not the same scientific mettle would be seen in Islamic society today also right?. It is not, Islam began with lies and slander and killings, it is still killing and causing fear and terror, it will keep doing so. That ultimate thing is the super conscious which is just a space like entity present everywhere and which can be seen/felt/experienced/understood after describing the possible smallest particles, molecules, atoms and its dividing parts electron, proton, neutron and then comes the waves and then comes no-waves like condition and beyond that nothing remains except super consciousness which is space like and present everywhere to the unlimited extent of infinite. This infinite space which is full of unseen consciousness and everything being created in it automatically by way of action reaction theory. Please note this super conscious being does not create anything actively like we human do rather everything is being created in it or from it passively. Due to reason unknown at a certain blank point in this space one wave creates automatically and it is full of roaming freely action and starts a series of actions reactions and multiplies these actions reactions which further expands in the unlimited space and the story of variety of creations in different different forms begins. In nutshell, Vedic science has all the answers to all your WHATS and HOWS except the big WHY. Whats n Hows never bothered Vedic science as it has all solved by it but this WHY always bothered the Vedic science and Vedic science is fully honest in accepting the fact that it has no answer to this WHY. And this Why is the main thing which is mysterious and always questionable. I do not know why muslim people always connect everything with their religion. They connect everything with the Islam such as Economic development, science and human development. Please note that western countries are very advance today in every field because of their distance of political and economic views from religions. Christian are not today what muslim community is describing. They are very much economic oriented and they think of economic welfare of the country than religions first. May be you know better about condition of Dalits in India. Number of killing of minorities in the name of religion is about 100 times more in Pakistan and is rarely reported recorded or punished. India is trying to reduce these episodes. You will be surprised to know that minority clashes are down by 25 percent in last 5 years. It just makes more headlines on TV.
I have not said that Pakistan doesn't have serious issues but most Pakistanies will admit that , unlike most Indians suffering from disillusion of grandeur , minority's situation is shameful in Pakistan but we are not in denial , it has begun to improve and I hope religious extremism will be defeated. As you rightly pointed out, is India was home to center's of learning long before the west had any meaning existence as a civilization! However when the British came hey saw a different India. Nalanda was in ruins, Islamic rule had morphed Hindu traditions. Only a poor shadow of our heritage survived in morphed form and what remained was full of inaccuracies. The British judged against this limited backdrop.
Initial education introduced by the British trained Hindus in Sanskrit and Vedas and Muslims in Arabic. Macaulay wanted to change that and he said intentioned were actually good. His ideas and as that all of thr knowledge in English like Newtonian physics and other scientific renaissance if Europe should be taught to Indians. That was we benevolent by all standards. However Macaulay believed that since India does not have one common language, Indians should first learn English and then translate all the great works of Europe into Indian languages. This is there in Macaulay minute.
However such translation never happened and our languages never got enriched with new knowledge. That was our undoing rather than that of the British and it left in us a deep impression that we owe our renaissance to the British! That makes us feel inferior, secondary... Added to this was a strong leftist linience in many of our leaders and academics that assured natural patronage to mindless abandonment of our traditions. Any attempt to reassert ourselves only came to be seen as bigotry. This was because well to go academics rarely saw the need to take pride in our own past.
I think it changing now. There is a resurgence of the sanathana dharma, a reassertion of our tradition values and knowledge, and what is more important an acknowledgement by the western scholars of India's contributions to math, science, astronomy, grammer, political science, economics . This acknowledgement is now mainstream outside India. It is only inside India that our politicians have only shrill cries of " Hindu fundamentalsm" whenever there is is attempt to redeem our past glory!

I have to differ on Hoodbhoy's sir observation on Hinduism. Hinduism as a religion is not as fixed as Islam. There is no one book. Even the philosophy had six different versions to begin with in the relatively older texts. The experiments of evolution in terms of interpretation, understanding and discovery continued as late as Shankaracharya. It is only after the beating Hindus got from Islamic invaders that new unscientific and more belief based texts like Ram charit manas gained priority. And so did Bhakti movement which made Hindus more believers in distant and controlling God and not God as nature and law, to be studied and discovered. But even today in the south Indian states and West Bengal, which traditionally studied classical scriptures, maintain the love for scientific learning. It is not that Nehru made us secular and scientific but many of us accepted these values. Our adaptability is not just a sign of our opportunism but non rigid and open religious culture.
That is the reason why Hinduism is so great !!! In Islam you cannot move outside fixed Islamic thinking because of that damn book. .

A Hindu can criticize , give arguments against any written text in any of the holy books, speak against any religious practice and may not conduct any religious ritual and still he remains Hindu. The death in Hinduism is an intermediate stop as it's way forward for next life based on Karma of the current life. So the focus is not death but Karma is the focus which determines the next life. the thing that i do not understand is that why do people always keep science and religion very separate. Yes there are scientific ideas, inventions that contradict with religion but that does not mean that in every scientific invention, theory, religion should not be involved. Finally newly converted Turks took over and were at helm of Islam and founded Ottoman Caliphate , governed from Istambul/ Constantinople . I respect Dr. Parvez , but his knowledge about Hinduism is inadequate. Hinduism is one religion which doesn't have blasphemy and concept of Qayamat or day of judgement. Hinduism doesn't have one fixed book to be followed as must, rather debate and discussion on various issues was always encouraged and direction was always based on the outcome of these debates and discussion. No subject was considered taboo. There are vedas on politics, civics, economics, medicine and surgery, mathmatics and even on sex. Since Hinduism is inherently secular and based on the concept of Peace and welfare of the world, it was easy to adopt secularism in India.
Hoodbhoy says that from the 9th to 14th century Islam was flourishing. Those were the years when they initially invaded most portions of the Middle East and Europe, killing Millions and causing me misery to a wide part of the Earth. They forcefully converted or bullied the entire intellengtsia of the conquered areas. All the books and so called scientific marvels of that era was mostly written in Persian and non Arabic languages initially. Knowledge from India and Europe which was already in place was translated and called the Islamic inventions. If not the same scientific mettle would be seen in Islamic society today also right?. It is not, Islam began with lies and slander and killings, it is still killing and causing fear and terror, it will keep doing so. It is worse than Hitler, terror is it's language, victimhood and bullying are it's core principles.

But apart from the false and laughable religious description of God as given above there is certainly a reality which we all would accept that there is some unseen n unchangeable existence which is behind all this always changeable n progressive creations and which is the ultimate cause of everything n every being.
That ultimate thing is the super conscious which is just a space like entity present everywhere and which can be seen/felt/experienced/understood after describing the possible smallest particles, molecules, atoms and its dividing parts electron, proton, neutron and then comes the waves and then comes no-waves like condition and beyond that nothing remains except super consciousness which is space like and present everywhere to the unlimited extent of infinite.
This infinite space which is full of unseen consciousness and everything being created in it automatically by way of action reaction theory. Please note this super conscious being does not create anything actively like we human do rather everything is being created in it or from it passively. Due to reason unknown at a certain blank point in this space one wave creates automatically and it is full of roaming freely action and starts a series of actions reactions and multiplies these actions reactions which further expands in the unlimited space and the story of variety of creations in different different forms begins.
In nutshell, Vedic science has all the answers to all your WHATS and HOWS except the big WHY. Whats n Hows never bothered Vedic science as it has all solved by it but this WHY always bothered the Vedic science and Vedic science is fully honest in accepting the fact that it has no answer to this WHY.
And this Why is the main thing which is mysterious and always questionable.
But as per Vedic science the WHAT n HOW are so mind blowing and give hair raising experience that it remained happy in searching n finding on these two What n How factors only.
Anyway Vedic science gives a good n convincing commentary on what is n how is happening in this n beyond universe but condition is you have to read it and it available for all to know. If you are really inquisitive to know then you must read otherwise leave it.
But in any case Vedic science is not a book preaching religion - it reveals the science of understanding the super consciousness which is the only cause of all existences.

I do not know why muslim people always connect everything with their religion. They connect everything with the Islam such as Economic development, science and human development. Please note that western countries are very advance today in every field because of their distance of political and economic views from religions. Christian are not today what muslim community is describing. They are very much economic oriented and they think of economic welfare of the country than religions first. Religion should not become obstacle stone for the development of the economic development of the country. Hindu say Whole world is one family where Islam say whole is world is belong to Muslim.

May be you know better about condition of Dalits in India. Number of killing of minorities in the name of religion is about 100 times more in Pakistan and is rarely reported recorded or punished. India is trying to reduce these episodes. You will be surprised to know that minority clashes are down by 25 percent in last 5 years. It just makes more headlines on TV.
I have not said that Pakistan doesn't have serious issues but most Pakistanies will admit that , unlike most Indians suffering from disillusion of grandeur , minority's situation is shameful in Pakistan but we are not in denial , it has begun to improve and I hope religious extremism will be defeated. Your assertion that things are worse 100% in Pakistan is widely out of Mark Indian state is inflicting so much pain in so many parts of India , Kashmiri is an example of state brutality but in Pakistan state never indulged in killing its own minorities unlike Sikh massacre of 84 or Gujrat massacre of Muslims .In Pakistan atrocities on people of all faiths were inflicted by non state actors like talibans religious extremism or MQM in Karachi and Balooch separatists by the they were all backed by India.
In Pakistan killing minorities does not make headlines but if supreme Court letting go of innocent woman and crowds come out to protest. In UP Akhlak unfortunately was killed by mob but you saw the revulsion of Indian media that is the difference. Regarding Kashmir if these children start focusing on studies rather then throwing stones at army it will improve their life.
