You forgot to mention water changes are super important 😮
@@applet-es6vp handed are the fish will eat the roots as they form
How often
@@travisrhodes1477 every 3 days
Better off planting them in a sand dominant substrate right before roots are visible. Less stress on the plants, making them grow faster.
@@fishermankaidyas6523 My goldfish tank is full of plant cuttings with huge roots, they grow so fast as long as I feed the fish the roots survive. Haven't tried basil though, maybe they're tastier for the fish.
Thanks!!! I just bought a plant. I will do this. The rest i make brushetta: 3 large tomatoes, half cup each basil and parsley, half cup chopped red onion chop fine. Add olive oil kosher salt. Cut French bread into wedges add herbs on too drizzle with olive oil broil for 2 minutes put stirred brushetta to top. Yum 😋
🤤
This is a basil addiction… I didn’t need to know … I’m heading to produce!!
If you take it out of pot and shake dirt out, you will notice the pot is made up of heaps of individual plants, already rooted and ready to repot
sim mas o canal mostra variad formas da planta criar novas raizes❤
@@kelcymartins2944the point he's making is you don't have to clone it, wait a week for roots, wait another week after it's planted for it to take hold and grow as a plant. You can just split them up into individual plants and be on their way growing from day 1.
I put for my store-bought plants in one big pot that sits outside my kitchen door for easy access. It's growing like crazy outside.
Yesssss mine became crazy big!!
Plants are magical 😍😍😍
😁
My grocery store Basil never grows, now i know why.
That is amazing! Thank you! I am going to try this!
Thanks 😊
Same!❤
So basically cloning? Sweet 😊
I followed your precise instructions, but my basil cuttings were wilted and dead in the glass within a week ☹️
Should you change water during these 2 weeks?
You can do yea
Yep, every coupl'a days.
This method works for sure, but using scissors and exposing a little extra meristem with each cut makes root growth happen more quickly.
Beautiful❤🦋🙏 Amen❤
Thank you 😊
No joke, Everytime I buy basil from the store, it's dead completely in two days.
What happens to the original plant you cut the stems from? Does it grow a new stem and leaves?
Usually they die off
@learnlanguagesei
What is the music from?
It sounds pretty cool😎😊
Is it seasonal or it can grow all year long?
Give it enough light and it will continue to grow
Sink water or distilled water? Replace Water or leave the same water during the 2 weeks?
Full a jug of water and let it sit with no lid for 1-2 days to get rid of chlorine and other toxic substances. Then use this water for the changes. Change water every 3-4 days and make sure to rinse and feel the basil stem to make sure it’s not slimey. If it is, rinse it out with your hand and running water… Once planted, water the soil never the leaves! Hope this helps
Thanks, curious, why never water the leaves?@@nattywhitee
@PswACC they will rot if you water them
Do you need to change the water?
Topping it up will be fine
basil invation
👍👍👍 bravo 🇮🇹😘
Can I grow pasley like this too
Not so much with parsley
can you plant it in the original soil and tub the basil came with?
Typically the original pot is over crowded with leads to the plant dying. They recommended separating it to multiple plants. Keeping it trimmed before it flowers is important too.
Why do you remove the lower leaves? Those are the ones that help the plant to survive and get larger, no?
They would rot in the water
@@SheffieldMadePlants SO basically, I'll just have to 1. Cut as far down as I possibly can, and or 2. have less water, and replace the water more often if i want to keep those leaves since they are beneficial if kept? Thanks.
@@TheMillionDollarDropout no they're not beneficial at all. New growth will come from the top
@@TheMillionDollarDropoutthey're not beneficial without roots. Basically the plant will waste energy trying to keep those leaves alive, instead of using those energy to grow new roots. So for these new cuttings, it's better to remove them.
Can you do this with packaged basil that didn’t come with a pot of dirt? My basil is already cut so would i be able to just throw them in water?
Not tried but maybe
Yes should be okay.
Would this work with cilantro?
Not really. It's better to grow that from seed
I’ve literally done this dozens of times and the basil always dies. There’s something you’re not showing.
i try to do this and it just rots. i even change the water :(
Do you reuse the old soil? If so how many times?
You probably can once or twice but it will start to become a bit stale for the plant
Thanks!!
Does this work with other herbs? ☺️
I’ve done it with mint but can’t speak for other herbs. Give it a try!
Rosemary and thyme
Awesome video, so I am trying it! 👍🤩
But the stems on mine bend dramatically in the water, some upwards out of the glass. Anyone know why? It would be hard to plant them later with curled up stems. Leaves are looking great and healthy so far.
Are they bending towards the light)
@@SheffieldMadePlants Thank you so much for responding! Maybe, I'm not sure. Do stems also look for light? During the day they get natural light standing on a window sill. They also get supplement white light for plants since I'm in Sweden and it's ofc very dark this time of the year. 8 hours of no light during the night.
@@s181miri6 It sounds like it's searching for light but I've not seen what you describe before 🤷♂
@@SheffieldMadePlants Okay, thank you!
@@s181miri6 8 hours of no light during the night is normal for most of the world especially during Winter.
@sheffield made plants My basil propagations continuously fail, the stem goes soggy & upper leaf dies. Ive tried them under a grow light & on a windowsill that gets bright indirect light, what do I need to do to get these things to thrive?
Are they in water or soil?
Morning sun is what they like, and then plenty of shade for the rest of the day. I've never put basil under lights!
Could I grow this out of the top of my red ear sliders tank, with the pothos I have growing out of the tank
Grow what?
Basil plants
@@shx7503518 don’t see a problem with that but not certain because I’ve never had a tank
Does this work for coriander/cilantro too?
Not so much
😢@@SheffieldMadePlants
I’m trying this with basil and mint. Both are initially wilting. Is that normal?
No shouldn’t wilt much at all
@@SheffieldMadePlants Any suggestions on what to do? Should I cut off the wilted leaves and leave the stems and see what happens?
@@sc9155 yes trim the leaves. You prob have too many for the stem
omori fans after you cut of the stem: 😨
I do everything you did here but once I put it in soil it dies. Any advice?
Keep the soil moist for the first couple of weeks
Basil…Basil…Basil from Omori? No…the plant…right…haha…
Can I just keep the basil in water and never plant them in soil?
You can do that but you’d need some hydroponic feed for them
I don't have a window in my kitchen, where should I put my water cup basil leaves? Thanks
Dining room?
@@SheffieldMadePlants Well my dining room is connected to my kitchen! Lol Do you mean I should move it to a room with a window? That would be my living room but it's weird to have a basil plant next to my TV and printer.... 🤔
@@lululemonbar9110 it needs light! A grow light?
@@SheffieldMadePlants ok thank you
or... you know, just seperate the plants to smaller groups into different pots
Wish you would have shown it growing from the original. Your end result looks like cuttings from a much bigger, healthier plant.
It was all the same plant
So the plant that you cut it from didn’t grow at all in the background and stayed in the same position on the counter. while the ones you cut grew bigger and started roots?
@@dredennis113hahaha
Can I grow this in NY? Also where can I pick up a basil plant? This would be amazing!
You should be able to get it in your local supermarket?
Nah man this is illegal in NY. Check you state laws everyone!
@@c50m4 what’s the law it’s breaking?
@@SheffieldMadePlants was just making a joke ;)
@@c50m4 😂
My basil, mint, and rose stems all grow beautifully in water and die the second they get potted... what am I doing wrong
Are you keeping the soil moist at all times?
@@SheffieldMadePlants yes indeed! Plenty of sun, moist soil without overwatering.... or so I believe
When you cut the basil you have to make sure that it has little leaves that are starting to bloom on the sides so it can keep growing. This method works to get roots but since you cut off all the leaves from the bottom it can't grow. So if you cut off the bud it will die since it has nothing to grow on. I hope this makes sense
@@garfieldthelasagnaking458 it does make sense. But I do leave buds on there too. I sent pictures to a plant expert at the local nursery and they couldn't figure it out either. They said it could be the dry air and lack of humidity...I don't know. I have a crazy green thumb at my mom's place, our plants there grow great
The same happens to my rosemary transplant cuttings. Fine in water, but soon as moved to soil they die. This is because of transplant shock. The roots are used to a very wet environment, so when moved to soil, you must make sure the soil stays very wet for the first few weeks.
i just searched basil expecting to find omori, but uhm. no.
I have 5 pots of different basil props… i gotta stop. I need a big a bag type pot
it molded
Cheaper to buy a pack of seeds and grow from scratch
Stonks
Yes, while in your apartment you can grow "endless" basil roots, from the stems.... In reality'you have no means to endlessly plant them, or maintain long-term sustainability of this effort - let alone actually demonstate it - just sayin'... for those don't want to frustrate themselves 🙄
