@mothity also steam trains on mainline are extremely rare in Britain. Whenever a steam train is due to go through a station in the UK there are always people lining the platforms
@cornettoman6 This train was a service booked to call at Didcot. The idea must have been to allow those accross the track, note not road at the rail center to take pictures.
I think if the HST had passed on the closest track, one might have wet ones pants if they didn't know it was coming (concentrating so hard on the steam shot and all.)
@duroche53 Didcot is about 50 miles NW from Paddington Station London UK on the Great Western Railway. From Monteral I would suggest air travel to London Heathrow and then the Rail Air Coach Service to Reading and then the train to Didcot, Should take about 2 hours from landing ;->
180s are brilliant - thats why nobody wants them for work they've been built for and they're now on secondary Preston-Hazle Grove all station stoppers with declassified first class!
@Sephy69 actually it is true about steam engines creating less pollution than diesel. Its chiefly just cinders and ash coming out of the chimney, whatever the colour of the smoke and these don't reach the atmosphere. And the reason why Mk 1 coaches are going to be banned are because they don't lock however railtour coaches often have additional locks inside the doors to compensate.
@cornettoman6 same reason people would rather see animals in the wild on safari or whatever instead of looking at stuffed ones in a museum, or see a live band rather than look at a poster of them.
@Sephy69 ok how do you think that steam express got scotland and back non stop. I will tell you when steam was still king they had water troughs which half open pipes in between the rails when the steam engine was getting low on water the fireman would lower a scoop the water would go up the scoop in to the water and they refuelled with coal when they got there and I wouldn't belive the mk1 stock thing because it wouldn't be a proper excursion with out them and the enthurists would complain.
Fake steam engine? It was so loud the steam valve on the engine it was a like a jet engine. The disel noise on the video is the rail noise of the HST approaching. The disel on the end of the train may have been for hotel power / breakdown only.
Jimyjames73 it's not pushing it, the diesel is supplying the heating and electricity and heat for the wagons, if you listen closely, you can hear the engine idle
I don't know why they don't use steam trains anymore. They're cause alot less pollution. Maybe it'll make green peace shut the fuck up for atleast a few seconds! Everybody will want that. XD
I've not driven them? Not my fault EWS failed me on the psycho tests otherwise I might have done. Believe me, I know the failures they have had in the North West.
no different to someone appreciating fast cars. they dont get any stick. hsts are the coolest things, if you had ears you would appreciate a valenta engine scream! NOW GO GET A LIFE MATEY BOY!!!

HST's are awesome, better than any unit
the diesels are used to heat the coaches and help if the steam locomotive up steep hills

sorry missed out a few words what was the water part of the tender
in fact appreciating fast cars is sadder especially those who cant even drive one, and yes no one EVER thinks of giving them any stick

queens messenger class 67??at the end.
Wow! The HST made me jump when it passed!
feel the breeze i'd like it
Notice, no-one turned to look at the HST! Says it all really.
Is that King Edward I?
Whoooosh!
Great video!;-)
very cool
Cool! Hmm...I wonder if it's possible to get a similar video where the Strasburg RR meets Amtrak's Keystone Corridor near Lancaster, Pennsylvania!
If you listen you will hear the steam locomotive pull... the diesel is only idling
++nice vid!
Ok, thanks.
They still use fossil fuels. And there's absolutely no way they'd come anywhere near to keeping to modern (already overcrowded) timetables.
trains + train drivers = speed freaks LOLOL
i dont need to support anything because im not a sad trainspotter :P
@999jefro LOL if you think its fake then take a look at videos with out diesels on the back ;)
No. That definately is 125 mph.
Fake steam engine? It was so loud the steam valve on the engine it was a like a jet engine. The disel noise on the video is the rail noise of the HST approaching. The disel on the end of the train may have been for hotel power / breakdown only.
U can'y have that - a steam engine then with a diesel on the back ppushing it???
