The visuals of FH5 are amazing. But I consider the UK landscapes of FH4 provided more suitable environments for different sorts of racing. The new maps and environmental features such as the jungle and sands storms bring the series a little bit closer to the arcade spectrum. On a separate matter, the FH soundtracks were more impressive

Also with the car damage…. How would it work with custom livery. As good as the Forza game engine is, I’m not sure how it could display crumpled bodywork if it’s been cover by a custom design or artwork
If you leave them off, it shouldn't bother you anyway. But for those who 'd like to see an more realistic damage model, even fh2 was better (bodywork, not paint)
For the damage effects, I watched Raycevick's video on Burnout and the first thing shown was a Ford exec talking about why their cars don't look damaged is because they don't want the cars to look dangerous and unsafe. Yeah, that's a ridiculous statement.
@Nick930 And it's getting worse, Back then in 2008 Codemasters managed to make absolutely fantastic damage model in Race Driver: Grid, I think this game have the world's best damage model ever with licensed vehicles and it looks like it will never change. Today it's literally impossible to show that kind of damage model on countless brands, especially on exotic vehicles. Manufactures are ruining racing games in general with those restrictions and it pisses me off so freaking hard
yet some manufactures do not want to see their cars to be destroyed/damaged in games. If you have noticed why we don't have Supra anymore in nfs games or toyota in general is that toyota don't want to see their cars in racing games where they get damaged or any other reason
The geographical and cultural environment of FH 4 map which what I mean is that sort of depiction has been seldomly appeared in other open-world games, whereas the type of geographical environment of FH 5 map you can be frequently seen that around in many other open-world games such as GTA 5, Red Dead Redemption, Ghost Recon Wildlands, Just Cause 4 and so on. So I find the map of FH 4 is unique and hopefully the next game's map design will be literally based on Japan!
Forza Horizon 5 sound quality is in a league of its own. It blows away every aspect of FH4 in engine sounds. Kudos to PG for their amazing work. Next Forza game will be on a new engine so I'm really excited for that, in the meantime, I'll go play some Forza Horizon 5 :D
I don’t think it’s that much better, mainly because the sound quality (for the good cars that sounds accurate) are actually really good in fh4. It’s just that more cars sound like their irl counterparts.
@@fifteen8850 I disagree. I completely understand where you’re coming from, but after putting way too much time into FH4, FH5 just sounded so much better. Like you mentioned, most the cars now sound more like their real world counterpart, but the overall sound quality is so much better. Along with much more crisp and unique upshift and downshift noises, it is really fantastic. Granted, most of this is minor in the grand scheme of things and probably wouldn’t be noticed, but I still think FH5 deserves some appreciation for this leap.
@@fifteen8850 There are other improved aspects tho, like the ray traced audio(probably because of which the Doppler effect that occurs due to other cars speeding through or us speeding through anything and getting that woosh sound is a lot more convincing).
@@itsy3h I do recognize that most have better engine sounds and overall sound much. More natural, but I can’t help but feel that certain cars somehow sound worse in fh5 compared to fh4
@@fifteen8850 and that may be so, certain cars may have ended up sounding worse. And I’m sure there’s a million possibilities as to why that could be, but I think on an overall level, most of the cars in FH5 sound more realistic, and just overall better. That’s not me trying to excuse the cars that may sound bad, but again, I just think FH5 deserves some praise for its new updated sounds
I played Horizon 4 for a year straight. Was excited when 5 came out. I stopped 5 after 2 months. World felt so much more engaging in 4, you would actually see more players around, and the highway was a great spot to meet others. 5 doesn't have any of that, too open, wide and soulless. Gameplay and effects on 5 was great at least.
@@TOBY-jy7bz the map is good but its easy to get tired of it. It doens't feel that chill to just drive around a desert or a jungle as it is on FH4 environment
It's the old Forza Motorsport 5 engine and it's hitting it's limit ad it can be seen which is very impressive for a track racing game engine. I'd like to see Gran Turismo do the same with theirs.
Another factor in the lackluster damage modeling is the licensing. Car manufacturers don't like it when their cars can get smashed to bits in game. This is especially true for Ferrari and Porsche. I'd love for a Burnout or Wreckfest level of deformation but I doubt it'd ever be allowed and many car makers might pull their vehicles if it is incorporated.
Thats not rly true, manufactures are fine with damage models, tuning and so on. Back in the days when I did 3d modeling I talked with alot guys from car manufactures, most of them where fine with visual changes. There are of course sometimes exclusive deals or exclusive cars with some restriction. But.. Most studios skipping things like damage models due the amount of extra work that needs to be done. And Trun10 has a hard time even fixing the old reused models.
@@PureRacing04 not true, most manufactures dont want their cars having any sort of major damage, ferrari started the whole crappy damage model thing, look back at fm4 damage models that were made before they got all pissy about it.

Fantastic presentation, as always. Only one thing is I was surprised there was no mention of the smoke fidelity between the two. Horizon 5 vastly improved the tire smoke over Horizon 4.
I never heard of Forza… but then 2 weeks ago I got FH5… 250 hours later… now I’m playing FH4. Both are just incredible games. Also, I play with a direct drive wheel… so the force feedback designed into both of these games is mind blowing,. I was expecting them to play so good.
@@nothinbutpeanutthe thing is the graphics on the more serious racer sim type games seem to be way behind, Horizon 5 or 4 will blow your mind visually.
Personally I like FH4 more because that environment was more realistic to the game. What i mean by this is in real life you aren't going to be seeing multi million dollar cars driving through a very poor Mexican village whereas you would in a place like Edinburgh, a quaint boutique town, or the english countryside. I think this really helped the game make you feel like you were really there because everything fit in realistically. I also think that if they added a Mexico city the game would've been more realistic to the type of cars in the game as Mexico city is very modern, and if you were inside you could imagine yourself being somewhere else like NYC for example.
I got bored of fh5 really quickly unfortunately, its beautiful and the sound is great and all that but it wasnt big enough of a jump from fh4 to make me want to play it for hundreds of hours, i think the biggest let down was it lack of character, its just boring old desert like you see in gta, ghost recon and whatnot, but fh4's map of england was absolutely stunning with its atmosphere and character, and the expansion of the lego dlc just added to that, all the missions were really fun with unique characters and i think thats where fh5 flopped
Bro I downloaded FH5 on game pass because FH4 kept crashing played 3 hours and turned it off and figured out how to get FH4 working again haven’t looked back since my biggest issue was the map it just felt like far cry or something empty deserts im British too so I enjoy FH4 more because I’m familiar with the roads
@@friendlyatheist9589 I prefer Horiwzon 4's graphics to 5's. Horizon 5 looks washed out at times and the graphics are inconsistent meaning one time it can look like the best game ever made and the other time like a game from 2016
I feel like the next Forza Horizon will be a pretty big improvement mainly in the physics and maybe the graphics department due to the fact it being next-gen only and with the upgrades to the ForzaTech engine Turn10 are planning todo
There is a very small detail difference between the two games, that I really can't understand. In FH 4 the pedal shifters move when you shift gears, in FH 5 they don't (you can observe it from 10:40). I know it's a small thing but it bothers me a lot.
It's a sad, well known fact that Forza seems to have a lacklustre approach to interior animations. I don't get the sense that it's improved much on that aspect since Motorsport 3.
I didn’t know Forza Horizon existed until a few days ago. I got FH5 with a Fanatec DD1 setup and its blowing my mind. So much, that now I’m also going back to check out FH4. Both are amazing, but FH5 has an edge on graphics for sure, ever so slightly.
Than you mis a lot. The Forza horizon serie is a real Nice serie to have . A lot of country what is use. If you look for IT you can fine a key for the Forza horizon 3 that is in Australië .
I don't play with a wheel, but you should be aware that wheel users universally say FH4 does not feel good. Apparently this is the first Forza Horizon game that got it right. Just a heads up.
@@ldesconocido9341 I have used a Logitech g920 (with force feedback for that saying) on all FH3, FH4 and FH5 and there was a significant improvement in brake and steering behaviour from 3 to 4. Horizon 5 seems rather good but I wouldn't say it is largely different from FH4 other than some steering response differences.
The biggest difference is the dynamic range of colors. In FH5 you get a much greater dynamic range of colors as compared to FH4. That is why FH5 looks more true to life with better contrasty colors and shadows. The skybox is also much better with an enhanced global Illumination model.
I like FH5, I just got bored of it quicker compared to FH4. I think i'll wait until the DLCs are released, to give it another try. After getting all of the boards, houses and making it to the hall of fame. Then there's not really a lot you can do, other than replaying events and playing online.
Likewise, but I was tired before I even reached HoF. The new sounds and the fun, gorgeous map does make me want to play a bit, but I can only play in bursts of 1-2 hour a day while I could play FH4 for 8+ hours total a day. At its core, it still has every reasons that made me felt burnt out by FH4 because under the new, shinier coat of paint, it's exactly the same game. Also personally I lost all of my liveries because they were made in Microsoft Store version of FH4 and can't be transferred to my Steam FH5 which really kills my mood.
I'm glad I bought Horizon 4 yesterday instead of Horizon 5. I can bake an egg on my laptop already, I don't need to know what else might be cooking when playing Horizon 5
I actually prefer FH4 sounds and environment. Edit: After a lot a time I can see how the fh5 sounds have a better tone but it sounds like the cars exhaust are just a bunch of mufflers, even with the race exhaust
I have never played a Forza game before. My boyfriend downloaded it since it was available since day 1 on PC Game Pass and I also decided to give it a try. I don't usually play triple A games since most of them are just a generic story and generic mechanics but this one ended up being one of my 5 favourite games from last year. It is just SO good. It's a simple car game but it's really fun to play. You can do whatever you want, play solo or online with other people. I also love how they keep up with the community putting out challanges to get new cars like the Peel these past weeks.
For a person who played FH4 for +300 hours I could easily say that FH5 is just a refreshed version. No real change in gameplay and Racing experience. That doesn't make FH5 bad, just an expansion of a really awesome game.
Thanks for the comparison, although I didnt bother to buy FH5 cause its feel like 4 with some improvements. Hope we see bolder things in the future and not a Fifa 2020, 21, 22 situation.
I preferred the FH4 map to be honest. And the draw distance I found to be way better on FH4 because they stills have not patched the FH5 draw distance bug on PC over a year after launch. I own both games but I still play FH4 more than FH5
FH5 feels very similar to FH3 in terms of it's map layout. The jungles feel similar to a degree. The desert area is a lot different though. FH3 had more red tones as it is in Australia. Creates more contrast, that was one of my favorite areas to come flying through at 200+mph. On the Goliath. That was the best Goliath race to date IMO. The lighting, textures and reflections are much better in FH5 though. I really didn't like FH4 even though I was pretty much forced to play it.
Honestly preferred fh4s map over Mexico. Feel like with Mexico there's desert, beach and the big mountain in the middle. Also feel like the city roads are more awkward than interesting to drive on
FH5's environments aren't that impressive when almost everything is copy/pasted. Not really that big of a jump from FH4, almost like FH5 is just an expansion pack for FH4, and maybe it should have been one instead of a full $75 game.
If you ask me i would say that FH4 is 200 times better than horizon 5 because of the difference of Seasons and Forzathon on both games. Horizon 4 had better weather and seasons for me to reconise for my blueprint events, however i can't edit blue prints in FH4 but thats ok. Horizon 4 also has better forzathon because of the seasonal pr stunts. You can complete the seasonal pr stunt in any car, in horizon 5's seasonal pr stunt, you'll need a required car and a required class upgrade for the car like really bru! C'mon! Horizon 4 also has the driver full frame animation in the chase cam, well horizon 5's driver fps in the chase cam is weak and less fps. Horizon 4 also has showcase remixes which is absolutely incredible! this is why horizon 4 had a lot better performance than horizon 5's performance!
2:47 no, fh4 map design is more fun than fh5 the fact that it’s more sandy does not make it that interesting than fh4 and not to mention Edinburgh that has very huge castles and it was actually very interesting for me to go there than in gran hanato
I wanted to see this video! I prefer the seasons in 4... but you can't randomly make it snow everywhere and claim it's Mexico 🙃 but for every other aspect of the game I think it's a great improvement, over a really great game may I add.
…it doesn’t “randomly snow everywhere”. It only snows in predetermined spots on the map during the dry season and only on mountain tops. Have you not actually played the game?
@@ThinWhiteLuke I have played it, what I meant is that I liked winter making it snow on all the map on fh4, but fh5 being in Mexico would make no sense if it happened, so while I preferred it that way on 4, the way 5 handles it is what makes sense. Just a comment on a personal preference
I think Horizon 5 is a better looking/sounding game overall, but I feel like lighting could certainly be improved. I feel like Horizon five has the "GTA V" effect, where white cars look like they're glowing in direct sunlight.
One big problem with Horizon 5 is there there are no people so see during races. Nowhere. Not even in cities. They're all vacant. People bring life to a game.
I was ready to buy one of these last week during the sale and I tried both back to back on Xbox Live. 5 had so much pop in that it was academic, I had no choice but to go with 4, which was fine since I like the snow and it was cheaper. I hope they're able to optimize 5 more because the environments do seem more fun and varied. Also pro tip: if you've played on Xbox Live, buy your game there instead of Steam, as you will not be able to import your progress, at least with FH4. I returned and bought through Xbox instead since I had over 100 cars in a pretty short amount of time.

In one thing that almost every car video game fails because is a video game, it’s sound simulation. That means including the natural way of sound in video games which influences a lot of the real ambience and excitement about cars, like echos or how different they sound at distance, the loudness between normal cars and sport cars, so on. Whoever pulls this off will definitely attract the enthusiasts audience.
The series has always been impressive, but my goodness 5 is work of art. Love the setting, sound design and gameplay so much. Can't wait to see where they go for 6.
One thing is for certain : The backfire textures and sounds are WAAAAY much better in FH4 than it is in FH5, FH5 feels too blue-ish, almost completely unrealistic
I would personally like to see Turn 10 create a game with exotic tracks but maintain the realism of the motorsport series. The thing that kills Horizon for me is the hipster festival vibe, cannot stand that crap!
The real revolution in the Forza series in terms of physics and graphics will be the transition from the 2013 graphics engine to the new ForzaTech engine with the release of Forza Motorsport 8 :)
So I have both games, but admittedly I’m British, I don’t know why but I prefer forza 4 although I haven’t played much of forza 5 as I didn’t like the map that much just feels like I’m playing far cry

In FH4 with proper lighting timed you could get a surprising realistic photo or look. Wich in my opinion in FH5 is hard or impossible to do that. I'm not saying that FH5 worse, just pointing out that.
I hated winter in FH4 but i still miss it... i wonder how it would be to drive on snowy roads with the new physics of FH5. Its waaay more satisfying to drive in FH5, in FH4 it feels so slippy.
with the first car you showed in the sound test (c7 corvette) you had the not uncommon glitch of the fh5 sound being muffled. sometimes cars do that and isn't actually what they sound like, because when you log back on it sounds great again.
Everything about FH5 is awesome and I thought the adventures were great but man the other stories were kinda lame, they were way, way better in FH4 imo. And even though the map is way bigger there is less content. According to howlongtobeat avg 100% time is 83 hrs vs 125 hrs in FH4. I do love alot about FH5 though, the engine sounds are night and day better and I've always wanted a game where mods actually changed the sound. Either way they're both awesome games, I just wish there were better story missions in FH5.
It was listed as the best racing game ever in almost any list I could find, before eventually buying the game (love it). Can we stop using the word "underappreciated" as a positive adjective, and use it for stuff which wasn't recognized, while being great? Or is this going to be the same as "literally", just completely losing it's actual meaning?

I was not a fan of Mexico setting at first but I am blown by how beautiful it looks. I used to like the UK setting mainly because of the European roads but Mexico in terms of how beautiful the environment is, is a big leap from FH4. Now FH4 map looks kind of dull to me.
Damn, this was a fantastic effort. Keep up the good work, Nick930! FH5 stuns me at how good it looks, how well it runs, all while doing all this wild shit.
Only just started playing fh4 having never played a forza game before and I am really enjoying it. I got fh4 over fh5 due to price only as I could get fh4 ultimate edition for half the price of fh5 std edition. Once I'm finished with fh4 I'll get fh5 for sure.
The sounds in FH5 are amazing I see some people around UA-cam downplaying it since the game has been released. Sounds are so good that I enjoy driving 4 cylinder engine cars which I'm not a fan of even if they are turbo.

Also with the car damage…. How would it work with custom livery. As good as the Forza game engine is, I’m not sure how it could display crumpled bodywork if it’s been cover by a custom design or artwork
LOL
@@MBL666UK it works pretty good! it shows the original paint underneath just like it would if you scratched a wrapped car irl.
Yeah I always play Motorsport games with simulation damage but Horizon with damage completely off. It's a game for cruising and looking beautiful.
Yup. That's exactly what they do. It's been a problem with games for a LONG time now.
Every car is dangerous and unsafe if the driver is crazy enough
They just don't want to see their cars destroyed, that's it

Forza Horizon 4 is just beautiful. My mom used to sit with me while I played FH4 on the big TV of the living room just to see the landscapes haha
This is just my opinion. I prefer the roads in forza horizon 4 they were more like roads.
There is more than desert in FH5, have you by chance not actually played the game?
The greenery and flowers make it wayyyy prettier, fh5 has some green areas but it's not as beautiful as in fh4
Isnt that what I said? I know I wrote that in my script but did I forget to say that In this video?

Personal opinion, but the scenery and menu song are far, FAR superior in fh4. I love england and that masterpiece of a song is pure nostalgia fuel

Good point. I wish they had made a location in Japan or Germany or at least added that in an expansion pack.
Come on man, mexico is ugly
I got bored of fh5 really quickly unfortunately, its beautiful and the sound is great and all that but it wasnt big enough of a jump from fh4 to make me want to play it for hundreds of hours, i think the biggest let down was it lack of character, its just boring old desert like you see in gta, ghost recon and whatnot, but fh4's map of england was absolutely stunning with its atmosphere and character, and the expansion of the lego dlc just added to that, all the missions were really fun with unique characters and i think thats where fh5 flopped

I feel like the next Forza Horizon will be a pretty big improvement mainly in the physics and maybe the graphics department due to the fact it being next-gen only and with the upgrades to the ForzaTech engine Turn10 are planning todo
Forza 5 for the graphics but, Forza 4 for gameplay feels way more fun
There is a very small detail difference between the two games, that I really can't understand. In FH 4 the pedal shifters move when you shift gears, in FH 5 they don't (you can observe it from 10:40). I know it's a small thing but it bothers me a lot.
It's a sad, well known fact that Forza seems to have a lacklustre approach to interior animations. I don't get the sense that it's improved much on that aspect since Motorsport 3.
and in cars that you can see the driver body you can see him using the clutch on gear changes, thats some things they left in fh4

Horizon 4 has a better map and seasons, but Horizon 5 wins literally everywhere else. Fingers crossed Horizon 6's map isnt boring
so basically the biggest difference is if you prefer to race in nothern UK, or Mexico
The biggest difference is the dynamic range of colors. In FH5 you get a much greater dynamic range of colors as compared to FH4. That is why FH5 looks more true to life with better contrasty colors and shadows. The skybox is also much better with an enhanced global Illumination model.
me too, when I go back to FH4 I still love how it looks
People say the UK setting lacked variety, but a game based in the UK was wanted for many years, and we got it. It definitely holds up.
I like FH5, I just got bored of it quicker compared to FH4. I think i'll wait until the DLCs are released, to give it another try. After getting all of the boards, houses and making it to the hall of fame. Then there's not really a lot you can do, other than replaying events and playing online.
Don't forget making builds.
It's always taken me a while to move onto the next Horizon game, but in the end I always enjoy it
There's always the festival playlist that you could try
Likewise, but I was tired before I even reached HoF. The new sounds and the fun, gorgeous map does make me want to play a bit, but I can only play in bursts of 1-2 hour a day while I could play FH4 for 8+ hours total a day. At its core, it still has every reasons that made me felt burnt out by FH4 because under the new, shinier coat of paint, it's exactly the same game.
Also personally I lost all of my liveries because they were made in Microsoft Store version of FH4 and can't be transferred to my Steam FH5 which really kills my mood.
I'm the opposite. I have been hooked for weeks and can't stop playing. I'm currently level 150 and have 206 cars 😁😎

I also love how they keep up with the community putting out challanges to get new cars like the Peel these past weeks.
this game is actually a first party exclusive
This might be one of the most awful generic AAA stories ever conceived. The characters could not be more contrived.
Which one did you get ? 4 or 5 ?
Me: *watching on a 720p 50hz screen* hmm yes you can really see much more detail
Honestly preferred fh4s map over Mexico. Feel like with Mexico there's desert, beach and the big mountain in the middle. Also feel like the city roads are more awkward than interesting to drive on
I noticed in forza horizon 4 the paddle shifters actually move and click in the game, but not in horizon 5 for some reason
FH5's environments aren't that impressive when almost everything is copy/pasted. Not really that big of a jump from FH4, almost like FH5 is just an expansion pack for FH4, and maybe it should have been one instead of a full $75 game.
idk why FH4 feels more fun to play then FH5
I love the way forza horizon 5 looks beautiful on series x and horizon 4 is beautiful also these games helps more on xbox consoles then pc upgrades
Cars have a complete change in materials, that plus the new lighting engine make them look more realistic in the world.
Who tf wants to drive in Mexico though?
