This is such a powerful moment in Degrassi history. Paige has to be 14 here, just started high school, and is raped at a high school party. This a moment where Paige starts to be take back the moment. I can’t comprehend how Lauren Collins was able to play this moment so well. She did a beautiful job telling this story for girls everywhere.
The line “you took my childhood “ is honestly heartbreaking. Virginity is one of the last things we have from our childhood and the fact that Paige’s was given up forcibly is really unfortunate. I couldn’t even began to imagine how traumatic that would be…
It happens to other people You say "how sad" You say "poor thing" But when it's you it's something else It's everything You'd never believe the nightmares You'll never know the pain you caused You'll never see the scars you left The things you stole Everything lost You took my body tore it in half You took my childhood my heart and my laugh You took everything I kept for myself Then you're gone I'm not your poor thing
"Took my body/tore it in HALF" is actually a really visceral, hard-hitting and gruesome lyric that befits such a harrowing experience of rape/sexual abuse. It punches you in the face with what Paige went through, as it should.
When this episode came out I had just been forcibly groped in the 9th grade. I cried my eyes out. This is not something that I should have been able to relate to at 14 but she did such an amazing job in this. This show was my everything.
@@danielstack4158 Agreed. Her voice is like raw and unique. It's not a pop princess voice. There are so many girls who are talented don't get me wrong but they all sound like the same after a while.
I loved her singing and this song, but I remember her saying in an interview back in the day (it feels like ages ago now 😭) that the crew was laughing at her while she was singing, which seemed weird to me? Like, exactly what was so funny about this underage girl singing a song about her character getting raped? She seemed to take it in stride, but hey, I guess you had to be there 🤷🏻♀️
I am so sorry that happened to you, but I’m so proud of you for speaking out! Not many men have the courage to do so, and it just shows how brave you are!
I'm quite a bit older than Lauren/Paige, but when this episode came out, I related to it so much. I was raped at 15 by a classmate at a house party (this happened in 1998).
In 2016, I was drugged and assaulted by a very trusted superior. I restarted Degrassi as an adult shortly after that and these episodes killed me. Degrassi is something every teen needs to watch. They cover literally anything and everything that a teen can experience.
+Degrassi Parodies According to the degrassi wikia page, it said the actresses did perform the songs. In the Hell Hath No Fury, she said didn't sing however for Hell Hath No Fury nothing about PMS (the band). Honestly, It sounds like her.
I'm so sorry! I know how it is painful. You don't want anyone from your crowd to know it. Do you? It is hurtful. If you want to and need to talk to somebody, you can talk with me. Just say yes or no, then we will decide how to connect. Again, I am really sorry
Paige, big nose n' all.😆 I actually liked her character when they humbled her. I remember punching a wall when Dean got away with her assault, mean as she used to be, even she didnt deserve that.
Although what happened to Paige was awful, I think it's what matured her and made her be a better person. She was kinda mean to Ashley and a fake friend to Terri a lot, but she eventually changed and that's why her friendship with Ellie became so great.
I can’t with Ashley’s faces in this scene 🥲😂 this scene is so amazing and I think it’s so powerful and meaningful. But I can’t see Ashley’s face and not bust up laughing 😂😂😞😞😞

She was 15 and in the 10th grade I'm watching the episode rn
@@candicehetrick9636 no, this was season 2. She was in grade 9
@@ChristineTheHippie but she was 15.. look it up
It was also a college party
@ Dean didn’t start college until season 4.

I was so confused with "you took my childhood" I was like "wait what's that?" Now I know...
@@TheMalharesCoven Sorry, but what did you think the song was about if you didn't get that?
The one dislike is from Dean obviously
he made 6 more accounts it seems
This comment is gold
Now he made 9
This show was the greatest. I miss these characters
COMPLETELY AGREE

I love ellie nash, ( 1:12 ) She is such an insperational person as i have been through alot of the same things.
Stay strong it will get better
Glad you got through it
im sure this is her real voice but watching it as an adult now I can say Paige couldve been our own girly canadian courtney love
She has a good voice, kinda odd she didn't sing more on the show. Everyone else did.

paige was kesha before kesha was kesha. #teampms
My replay button broke ...
This hits home for me , I am a victim of rape and this really how i feel , specially now he’s getting out of jail soon
Stay strong it gets better
Same except in my case he got away with it and the only repercussion was he was not allowed on campus anymore
Jaxxlyn Kilguss I’m so sorry he got away with it , karma will catch up to him and I hope he doesn’t do it to any one else ..
LaToya M thank you ❤️
This song and performance made Paige my number one favourite female character on TNG.
I really wish this was an actual song I could download on iTunes it’s so damn good and deep
I am a man. I was victim of rape. I know it's not exactly the same, but this moment was so chatartic, it made me shout F*CK YEAH!
I am so sorry that happened to you, but I’m so proud of you for speaking out! Not many men have the courage to do so, and it just shows how brave you are!
And it IS the same!!
This was stuck in my head, so I had to come watch it. Thanks for the upload 🙂

Wow this is different watching it now I’ve been through it.
Was Lauren Collins really singing ? If so awesome if not still awesome 💥💣👑💥💥💙❤
Paige should have had her vocals highlightes more. Shes the best singer Degrassi ever had
Did Lauren Collins actually sing that?

I think she did it 100% sounds like her
Yeah she did
Yes!! can u do the song Paige and Terry performed together?
i think watching paige sing this as a middle schooler is what made me like girls
This is riot grrl punk rock
Truth hurts huh Dean
Only mistake they made is not making this song longer
💔💔💔💔💔💔💔👍
This song isnt on Spotify so i just sing the chorus over the verse to bad romance
I am 12 and I was raped 6 times one when I was at a bffs and the rest was my step dad how do people get over it I was beat to
