I grew up here and feel so jaded so its really nice hearing someone's perspective who's relatively new to LA and making it work for them. After watching now I'm like shit maybe I'm just taking everything for granted
As someone who grew up in the midwest and moved here as an adult, you definitely don’t know how lucky you are (and I mean that in the least patronizing way possible lol)
One of the better reviews of the city of LA! Nice work. I am in Santa Monica now but have lived in Hollywood, West Hollywood, Van Nuys, Sylmar, Burbank, and Glendale. So I’ve seen a few places! My favorite being West Hollywood and Santa Monica! I am a motorcyclist (which has its benefits and drawbacks) so most of the traffic is easy to navigate. For sure dangerous, but I’m trained and wear the right gear and stay on top of my motorcycle maintenance. For those willing to dedicate themselves to being safe on the road, motorcycles are a great way to get around and avoid traffic! LA is what you make of it!
@Michael Martello, thank you brother for sharing this great video. Your videos have assisted me and my family in getting familiar with various areas and things to do in the greater L.A. metro. We will be permanently relocating there in the next few weeks. May 2025 be your most prosperous and successful year yet!
Always love your videos! Glad to be here early! Just moved to LA in August and your videos were helpful before and after my move. We moved to Pasadena and it feels centrally located enough for us even though we still have so much to explore. Not as close to the beach but not too far from anywhere
No way! Must’ve missed you settling into Playa. My wife and I just moved to Playa del Rey a few months ago! We started watching all your videos leading up to our move from VA this summer 🙌 love the videos! Cheers
If you want to be close to the beach, as in Malibu, but can't afford Santa Monica or all the South Bay cities (like Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Newport Beach and surrounding area), then try the West San Fernando Valley. It's much more affordable, plus it's an easy hop on the freeway to LA, plus there's Ventura and Santa Barbara in the other direction. But you can take the canyon (Topanga) to Malibu and surrounding beaches. It's only about a 25 minute drive through the canyon.
I'm an LA native and could not imagine myself living in the West SIde. It's hell on earth imo. What's the point of being close to everything if traffic makes you want to cry? This guy should have looked into Long Beach. It's the West Side minus the traffic and more affordable. It also puts the OC beach communities in play.
Hey Micheal, love the content! Would you consider making a filmmaker specific video regarding moving to LA? especially in the current climate to answer some questions like: How much would you recommend saving to move at the absolute minimum? How big should your portfolio be before moving if you’re a writer/director? What ways would be best to grow a network from wherever you are?
Great video. A good friend of mine moved to a beach house on Manhattan beach over ten years ago; she loves it. I’m not jealous, but I got her binoculars and made her promise to call me when she sees a tsunami coming.
Funny and adorable. LA is my favorite place. Haven't lived in Southern California for thousands of years when I was a kid, but went back 4 years ago for a visit and my heart is still there. It's my happy place, even when I'm in the crappy neighborhoods lol. There's just something in the air there that I find nowhere else. I've lived in South Florida for many years now, but if I were younger and I could afford it I would move to LA.
Thank you for sharing! I like the fact that you are a walker like myself. I recently moved to Long Beach, and it seems like a good place to walk by and get things done.
Looks like you're in a good area for getting out and avoid traffic. Great path that gets you to the beach! Living in less luxurious apt complex can get you outside more ... there is great climate there. Hope you enjoy your new home. 😊
Always great to watch your videos, Michael. And yes, you’re living La Dolce Vita indeed. Good choice moving to Culver City but West Hollywood or Venice would have been splendid too. And, btw, I recently learned that the palm tress in Beverly Hills are originally from my homeland, the Canary Islands. Kind Regards from Utah !
Hi Michael, I really enjoy your videos. I spent a fair bit of time in LA (went to UCLA) and miss it even though I am selectively forgetting about some of the difficult parts: traffic and cost. I now live near Chicago and have kids so don't get to visit very often. I watch your videos when I'm feeling nostalgic. Keep it going!
I'm not sure if I can go back to apartments without dishwashers or in unit washer/dryer. I don't care about other apartment amenities as I never use them, but the apartment itself I want all the appliances lol
Those are all cool places to visit in LA, which I donut would never live in those areas . Grew up here and love it, so much to do but live in Palos verdes peninsula near ocean, trails and away from the daily madness.
I grew up in Pasadena (not mentioned) and have lived in the South Bay for many years, and currently live in the South Bay, the best part of LA (also not mentioned) - until the end ha
Hi Michael, I love you spread positive vibes in your videos. 😊👍Is there a destination you have on your wishlist for 2025? Hope you had wonderful holidays.
@@MichaelMartello Perfect, as a European I truly love living here surrounded by thousands year old history and art. 😊You can travel around Europe easily. You are more than welcomed.
I recall when Playa Vista was vacant land owned by the eccentric billionaire Howard Hughes. He was sort of an early 1900's version of Elon Musk, but way more involved in the movie industry. I also recall when most of what's now the Baldwin Hills overlook & park area were oil fields. I preferred last year's weather in LA. More clouds, rain & cold. That's now further north in the SF Bay Area & the PNW. But if that were the rule instead of the exception, I guess the tone of LA would be different---maybe its economy too. Oh, well. I recall Decembers in LA when the temperature were in the 90s, so heat & drought are kind of built in. As with a NYC, Miami, Dallas, SF, Atlanta, etc, today's LA is both better & worse than it was over 60 years ago. People who romanticize its past sidestep the fact many of its most iffy neighborhoods were built over 70 years ago. That's why when doing house or apt hunting, there's less to pick & choose from. Which doesn't help with traffic & driving distances
how much racism does a person have to deal there considering the person has moved from another country, can they make friends easily or people avoid them. I heard it from my Indian friends
@ they can tell about themselves if they do treat others differently because I can’t listen to one perspective. People usually see themselves as victims no matter what.
Playa Vista is where Norm Macdonald lived. You actually look like his son! Do landlords even need to increase that much? That kind of sh annoys me. I know the cost of living goes up for them too but such an increase is just greed. There needs to be stricter rules placed upon them so they stop doing this. They should have to justify it.
I’ve lived in Culver City for 5+ years and I believe it’s one of the best places to live in LA hands down 🙌🏽 so much to do, very walkable and charming
Don't worry, you keep doing content like this, and one day, you'll own that Manhattan Beach house. You're very talented. 🙂
🙌🏼☺️ thank you!!!

a dishwasher is at least a must 🤣
Used to live in PV. Enjoyed it but as you say, super manicured almost too much - bought a house near West Adams and haven't looked back!
Congrats! You left the Simulation. (jk. lol)

Best spot would be Brentwood or Sawtelle, ez access to middle-west side, 405/10, the valley and the beach, nice areas too

I live in New York City and I have always had a great time in LA. The traffic is annoying though.
Highly recommend Long Beach.
Always check that an area has strict rent control laws, to avoid unaffordable yearly rental hikes.
What kind of stories are you interested in writing? I just finished my MFA in film and work at one of the big talent agencies as an assistant.
Dramedy, horror 😊
Do you have any thoughts on Pasific Palasades, or Westwood, or Brentwood?
PP = $$$ with hills close to the beach; WW = $$$ close to UCLA, B= $$$ in between the two in a flatter part of town

Born and raised in Culver never leaving but wtf is the Culver City area, Palms, Mar Vista , Mid City…… never heard anyone call it the Culver City area
haha I just said that for privacy reasons.
🎬🤩💗
the answer is SD, but dont' tell anyone I told you that.
All I need is more money. But six figures in LA is minimum wage these days.
You are the wrong rae to live in certain part of Culver City.
how much racism does a person have to deal there considering the person has moved from another country, can they make friends easily or people avoid them. I heard it from my Indian friends
It's best to ask people who are of the same or similar background who live there. Other people will not be able to give an informed opinion.
