Some of the most beautiful acoustic work I’ve heard is the live version of The Rain Song from the Jimmy Page/Robert Plant 1995 tour. His playing is simply lovely….beautiful…..delicate and tender

    • @Ledzepnut
      @Ledzepnut Рік тому +1

I would go with the studio version of the Rain Song or the '73 live version from the MSG concert, that's when Led Zeppelin were at their best. Don't get me wrong, I love the version from the mid 90's, I actually seen Page & Plant in concert then, but it wasn't Zeppelin

I love the live version at MSG in The Song Remains the Same too. Jimmy was in his zone. I think he loves this song too.

@@Ledzepnut no, not Zeppelin. But I was merely saying that that performance of Jimmy’s in the 90’s, although not Zeppelin, was some of the most beautiful acoustic guitar playing I ever heard him do. It was utterly perfect. So tender.

@@w.geoffreyspaulding6588 I'll have to listen to that again, it's been awhile, but I'm sure it is as you say, Jimmy can sure make a guitar sound so beautiful, he may not be the fastest or the most perfect, but he can sure make it emote exquisitely :)

I think everything from Houses of the Holy sounds better live. But I don't think the same is true for their other albums.
      Why?

Jimmy with solos plays what flows from him, I think they’re always amazing & beautiful. I’m glad they aren’t etched in stone, played the same every time, this is why he’s the greatest.

Actually, Jimmy Page created White Summer in The Yardbirds, a group that had Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page as their lead guitarists. One of the most influential groups of all time.

The drummer is John Bonham , the singer is robert plant and the bassist and keyboaerd player is John Paul Jones .JImmy Page founding member and producer - together they are sublime - well worth you getting fully acquainted . I suggest you try Babe i'm gonna leave you next - the guitar is so beautiful it will bring tears to your eyes unless you have a heart of stone .... There is nothing Jimmy Page cannot do on a guitar.

The guitar for this was in an open tuning of DADGAD partially so that the guitar could mimic a sitar. Jimmy sometimes called this tuning his "CIA tuning" which stood for Celtic, Indian, and Arabic because he was strongly drawn to the hypnotic sounds and music from those places.

You should check out Jimmy doing White Summer on a tv show in 1969 on his acoustic, it is how he starts all his creations. Jimmy was self taught, played rhythm and lead guitars simultaneously by ear and by feel and THAT’S what makes his music great! He was heavily influenced by all kinds of world music. Also check out his solos in Dazed and Confused live MSG 73🤯

I see there's been another Led Zeppelin since then. The best guitar solo in rock history can be heard in Stairway to Heaven (1973 Madison Square Garden). The same place where a blues classic was born Since I've Been Loving You.

Number 1 band for me well over 50 yrs. Just the best in my opinion as a unit and individual act. Rip John Bonham ( drums) Robert Plant ( vocals is still touring with his band) check out Robert Plant with Allison Krauss( artist top tier for years) then there is Jimmy Page,,,,,,❤ never heard tbis before. Wow!!!

You have to remember Jimmy himself said I’m not a technical player it’s the sound I’m looking for. Emotion too the acoustic version he did with the yardbirds was very well done. And the second song here is Black mountain side by Burt Jansch not sure of the spelling , Page used that for the first album , and he combined the two for the live shows , and in the 80 s with the firm he did a song called bird on the wing , different song similar feel , with vocals . Cool stuff . One more he did an acoustic version on the Julie Felix show There’s a video out there but it’s damaged you can still watch it the sound is fine there’s a split in the picture Cheers keep the analysis coming

The majority of this was entirely improvised - except for one motif he played halfway through which echoes the original acoustic version on their first album. But even his classic solos which everyone knows can be changed beyond recognition when they played live

I would recommend 'Roy Harper and Jimmy Page ' at the St Ives Hotel 1984 !
They're old friends and Roy is a master musician as well !!....

I’d say the tone he uses here makes it sound sloppier than it is, listen to the live acoustic version no sloppiness. Page became infamously sloppy after his unfortunate heroin addiction after 75. Sounded better when he got clean after. Love him to death my favorite guitarist
