  • This is a test flight of the the Mavic 2 Pro running a Litchi Waypoint mission. This was recorded on 10/10/2018. For the first 1:10 I inadvertently had the EV cranked down & tinkered with it again at the high point of the slow & sweeping city panorama. RC contact was maintained for the entire flight & you can see me tinkering with the camera vertical pan a couple of times.
**Uploaded in regards to complaints about jerky waypoint rotation. Just tossed it in the editor & slapped on some music as I abhor silent video.

Some really epic captures on this waypoint mission. Well done!

Thanks Al. Wish I would have noticed I had bumped the EV down. I need to fly this again with it set properly.

It's 2021 and the Mavic 3 still can't kill the Mavic 2 Pro 3 years after it's release. Still takes some stunning footage even at night!

I thought your "Follow the leader" was great, but the upgraded camera in this drone makes for better photography. more majestic, clearer, cleaner. You are the Master.

Excellent as always! I assume the m2p is better equipped for this? Were you able to maintain contact with the p4p during these sorties?

Thanks! From my launch point I was able to maintain constant RC contact throughout the flight with both the Mavic Pro & the Mavic 2 Pro, except for a brief moment when the birds passed behind a building.

My M2P is losing orientation and vertical camera angle when it loses the remote signal, but it still flies through all the waypoints in Litchi mission. From what I've found on forums, it seems that Phantom doesn't have this issue because all the data from the Litchi mission is uploaded and executed from the aircraft itself with Phantom, but part of it (camera vertical angle and orientation) is coming from the remote it the case of Mavic. Do you happen to have any experience on this matter? Everyone's replies welcome!
    Thanks!

    • @DirtyBird

This should not be the case. All the mission parameters are uploaded to the drone except vertical gimbal pitch changes & changes in speed. Everything else, waypoints, POIs, horizontal yawing & POI focus, all that stuff is in the upload & requires no RC contact.
I haven't flown my Mavic 2 on many waypoint missions because it has the annoying jerky rotation unless you update to the latest firmware. I've been holding off to give NLD a chance to figure out how to crack the anti-rollback DJI implemented with that version so I still have an NFZ bypass option.

@@DirtyBird 1. "All the mission parameters are uploaded to the drone except vertical gimbal pitch changes & changes in speed." - Does this apply to the Phantom too, or does it have everything uploaded?
      2. Annoying jerky rotation issues = horizontal yawing jerks?
      3. Did the Phantom (with any software update) have annoying jerky rotation issues?
      4. My M2P is losing orientation (POI going to the left usually) when making large circles around a large structure or building. Can it be that losing the orientation on my Litchi missions has something to do with large metal roof or big antenna it circles around (maybe because it's using magnetic compass for orientation)?
      5. Where have you learned all those details? Where can I read about it?
      Thanks a lot!

@@mihailofilipovic - Everything uploads with the Phantoms as well. Most of my good missions were flown with Phantoms.
The Mavic 2 had an issue with jerkiness in programmed horizontal panning. It was fixed with the latest M2 firmware, but if you install it you can't roll back. Checked the NLD site earlier...still no fix.
There is always a chance for a bit of jerkiness in complex pans. My Phantoms usually do a decent job. Not perfect but decent.

@@mihailofilipovic - On orientation issues, my original Mavic Pro did that. I did a cold IMU calibration then a compass & gimbal calibration & it cleared up. I have two more Mavic Pros since & they work well. On my Mavic 2 Pro, I haven't run enough waypoint missions to render a verdict.

I may have to bite the bullet and buy the MP2. Hell I’ve only had the MP1 for four months and still paying in it😂 it was $1,100. But that MP2 camera is Hollywood film quality 👍

    • @DirtyBird

The M2P camera is nice but don't go tossing your Mavic Pro in just yet. The difference is very noticeable at night but much less so during daytime flights. The Mavic Pro still does a fine job & extra batteries are $50 less.

To say this video is amazing would be an understatement. Do you still fly your Platinum & what phone did you start out with if you don't mind me asking? I started with the Mini in Feb this year , 2020, (No Litchi-darn)... but am seeing it is going to be a constant, expensive, chase ... to continue to upgrade to first a better drone, then, then.... a more expensive phone to handle all the bells & whistles the newer drones continue to have. I'm thinking of just going backwards to a new Platinum, (my budget) & still use my iPhone 8 Plus, and do flights like you have shown here (except during daylight??) ...after months, & months of practice- lol. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. TY for filming, processing, & sharing.

    • @DirtyBird
      @DirtyBird  4 роки тому +1

Thanks! I still have a pair of Mavic Pros (original & Alpine) in the fleet & fly both regularly. The original Mavic Pro or Mavic Pro Platinum are still incredibly useful & versatile birds. Plus you can totally unlock them to get around flight restrictions.
I have used many devices to fly over the past 6 years since getting my first drone (P2 Vision+). All Android. I've used an HTC One M7 & M8, Note 4, Galaxy S6 Edge, & Galaxy S10 in the phone category.
      For tablets I have used a Nexus 7 (2013, 2nd gen), ZenPad S8, ZenPad 10, ZenPad 3S 10, & ZenPad Z8s. All have been very reliable & performed great.
For the newer DJI Fly app, you need a device using 64-bit Android. From my list above this includes the Galaxy S6 Edge & S10, & the ZenPads S8, 10, 3S 10, & Z8s. The ZenPad Z10 also works.

@@stevenshackelford1937 - My pleasure. Occusync 1 was rated for 7 km while Occusync 2 was rated for 8 km. I notice very little max range distance between the two. In an open environment like water, both have more range than the battery can provide to make it back.
I have not tested it yet, but Occusync 2 for the Mavic 2/Mavic Air 2 was just tweaked & now claims up to 10 km range. If it really goes that far it's way beyond the battery range.

The Mavic 2 initially had an issue with jerky yaws like you see in the beginning of this video. This was corrected in the latest Mavic 2 firmware. I have not flown this mission with my Mavic 2 since the update, but the current firmware should produce results like those achievable with the Mavic Pro as seen below...
