Suggestion - when one of the RENs is front and center it looks white, while the one to the side looks grey. I suspect it has to do w/ the lighting, but I think it would be helpful for you to mention the color on the video. I read you answered a comment that they are in fact grey.

I'm a fan of Kanto (just ordered the ORA4 for nearfield listening) but when it comes to subs, I always recommend sticking with manufacturers who specialize in just that, REL being the gold standard. But if you don't have the budget, Kanto is certainly an option. It's just not in the same league as a REL. Then again, REL is really marketed towards higher-end audiophile systems so the Kanto may be more commensurate with your stereo.

What do you think of the KRK Rokit 8 Gen 5? I want to get speakers with more bass since I don’t want to use a subwoofer in my small room and with the front facing bass port on the KRK, I don’t have to worry much about putting the speakers too close to my wall. My room is untreated for now, so the various EQ on the KRK might be useful. My other option is the Kanto Ora4 and iLoud Micro Pro-but I get the impression that either the bass will be too flat for my liking (iLoud) or placement might be problematic and I wouldn’t be able to EQ without a computer (Kanto). Any suggestions? I’m not a music creator or producer, but I want to move away from headphones. If it helps, I do enjoy a slightly warmer sound and prefer a slight mid-to-high treble reduction. My preferred headphones are the Sennheiser HD650, Avantone Planar, and OLLO S5X. Much appreciate your thoughts, thanks!

  • @Napoleonic_S
    @Napoleonic_S Місяць тому

I've been using the LSX2 for a year, I feel while it has good or even great mid, it's quite weak/underwhelming on the higher frequency and I think the uni-q driver config is the cause because by having the tweeter sit on the middle of the larger woofer, it's either the high freq output get drowned by the larger woofer when they're performing together or the tweeter alone even couldn't perform optimally (compared to traditional separate tweeter config) if the speaker is only outputting mostly high freq because well, the tweeter mechanical movements in that situation are perhaps dampened somewhat by the larger woofer that surrounds it.
I really curious about AMT tech, before I bought the LSX2, I almost went with Kanto TUK, I decided to go with KEF just because the LSX is smaller and have more complete modern connections but now I have a feeling that I'd enjoy the TUK sound more for almost 50% less expensive.

      @@Jasper_Tech
Well I feel that way coming from an early 2000s Focal entry level HT speaker setup to the LSX2, not a fair comparison I know but the most noticeable difference for me is the high freq, and yeah I've maxed it via the KEF phone app.
That being said, have you heard the Kanto Tuk? I wonder how that compares to the Adam speaker that you recently featured, and in general I'm curious about the AMT tech, can you describe the difference to the traditional tweeter? Sound quality wise I mean, not the technical working.
Aside from Adam and Kanto, I think Airpulse and Swan have AMT tech in their speakers that don't cost too much.

I’d say they’re pretty similar to the ORA4s, in terms of sound profile, with maybe a bit more bass power given the larger driver. I’ve never personally tried the YU6, but I’d suspect they’d’ be very similar. The main value prop of the REN is their HDMI support.

If using wireless then there are differences between the sound performance of Bluetooth, Airplay 2 and wi-fi. Casting over wi-fi, (Chromecast, DLNA, uPnP) is uncompressed and lossless. Active speakers where amplification is provided to both speakers usually costs more and the speakers are of a higher quality. The speakers might sound better wired 9usb c, Ethernet or 3.5 mm analogue0. Phono inputs for a turntable are at the low end and usually limited to moving magnet cartridges.
Very few digital speakers that include streaming will upscale to surround which means replacing them if ever wanting to go that route. for surround sound passive and analogue active speakers are still the easiest way but some manufacturers have their own wireless system or use WiSA.

@@Jasper_Tech I for one appreciate that. I mean, what's the point in auditioning speakers recorded through a mic and processed through UA-cam compression and then through a crappy computer DAC and crappy built-in display speakers or cheap nearfield speakers?

@@lavatr8322 Your budget is $200. The Kanto REN is $600. If I were you (which I’m not) I would save $100 a month for 4 months, buy the REN, and be happy with my purchase rather than spending $200 on speakers I’ll always be disappointed with. Then I’d save up for a pair of good metal stands to position the tweeters at ear level. And then I’d save up for a sub.

I know soundbars may not sound as great, but I do think they have a place. I am afraid of my kid knocking over speakers or even banging on them.
I say this coming from having a pair of Kanto 5.25” passives hooked to my Denon receiver.

This is fair. I don’t mean to say that no soundbars should exist, I think they can be a reasonable compromise depending on your goals/constraints. I just think that there are a decent number of people that would do better with a solid 2 channel system.

That's not their market. Powered speakers are for someone who isn't interested in 5.1 surround sound that includes an AV receiver and cables running around the room. But if that's what you want, there's plenty of great options to choose from.

Just wait for your power to go out sometime, even for a second, and the Kanto speakers will lose all their settings. It's really quite irritating. It was my one major gripe with my Tuks before they just stopped working after 1.5 years and Kanto told me they couldn't be fixed. I replaced them as I like the sound and design but I wasn't pleased to see $1000 worth of speakers die so soon after purchase.
I hope you're good with constructive criticism becuase I have some: You might want to spend more time with the speakers so you can get to know them well (the good, the bad, and the ugly) rather than pumping out reviews where you say largely the same things and often about the same product(s).

Samsung is so finicky with eArc that I eventually took out the cable, and went back to using a toslink connection. Nothing worse than "smart features" that barely work. I'd rather have a "dumb" audio setup that just behaves how you would expect it to behave.

That’s the worst! On other TVs I’ve had some limited success improving HDMI-ARC issues by replacing the HDMI cable with a higher quality one. Maybe worth a shot?
I’ve been very happy with my LG B4 OLED TV powered by WebOS. I don’t use its smart features (I use my Apple TV 4K), but its overall settings functionality are excellent and it seems to be very reliable 🤞
