Probably one of the best poems I have ever heard. It is so elegiac, so melancholic. It depicts Tolkien's philosophy of delayed victory/defeat so well. Living in the shadow of collapsing world, longing for yesteryear... Gil Galad was an elven king...
The Last Alliance is heartbreaking. It’s the final battle of the World That Might’ve Been. Where Men, Elves, and Dwarves and all the free folk might’ve stood together. A world of magic. A world of wonder. Then the great kings of Men and Elves died. Then Isildur’s grief made him weak to the One Ring. And the last echoes of the Hurin’s People, of Gondolin, of Beleriand faded away. Sauron might be overthrown but the world left behind would diminish.
Small nitpick, there were still many great kings of Men, the Kings of Arnor and Gondor, for many, many centuries after the War of the Last Alliance, and they were partly of the race of Hurin. Then the times of the Kings ended for a while until Aragorn.
Húrin’s race died long ago. Neither Túrin nor Nienna had any children. Not really sure what you mean though. If you mean the house of Hador or Haleth, they, like literally every other tribe of the Edain live on through the Peredhil and their descendants, like Aragorn. Last echoes of Beleriand? Galadriel, Elrond, literally every Sinda by definition carry on the legacy of Beleriand. Gondolin I’ll give to you, but technically speaking Glorfindel carries on their legacy.

Out of all the vocal interpretations out there on the internet of Tolkien's work you guys are definitely doing the best job. The intonation, climatic point, emotion (which others lack) - it's all there.
My ears are literally convulsing from sheer epicness. I need *way* more of this in my life. Can you sing at my funeral? Seriously, everything you've done so far is amazing.
A truly Incredible rendition CDP! you are the first to professionally sing and upload a rendition of this legendary piece of musical literature. Thank you so much guys.
I said "professionally". That rules out the Tolkien Ensemble version. I've shown both versions to some friends of mine who are world class musicians and they all gave superior credits to CDP, without doubts.
Gil-galad was an Elven-king. Of him the harpers sadly sing; the last whose realm was fair and free between the Mountains and the Sea. His sword was long, his lance was keen. His shining helm afar was seen; the countless stars of heaven's field were mirrored in his silver shield. But long ago he rode away, and where he dwelleth none can say; for into darkness fell his star in Mordor where the shadows are.
No matter how much I like modern music but it's never gave me the same chills as J.R.R. Tolkien's poems in your interpretation! I really wished I could listen to them while I was reading books for the first time!
How you guys aren't more well known is beyond me. You are amazing, and deserve more recognition than you get. But hey, you're almost to 50K subs. You're getting up there.
Amazing. I didn't expect it, but you guys have become my absolute favorite musicians. I always found myself wanting to hear the songs of Middle-earth sung but naturally a book can do no such thing, only giving you text and a description. Every time I listen to your music It brings the world to life in my mind. Can't thank you enough for your work. Been listening to your music every day for over a year now.
Amazing rendition. There are basically so much words about Gil Galad in the book. And yet. You feel how beautiful he was. Not as powerful as Feanor. Not as wise as Galadriel. But, in a sense, better than both of them combined.
Please do the song of Beren and Luthien. It's the most tolkienish text you could sing since it was probably the most important story of Middle-Earth's lore, at least to Tolkien
When Tolkien returned from WWI after being injured, the war still going on, he was out with his wife. His wife loved to dance and spontaneously started dancing in this clearing of flowers. Tolkien was overcome with the juxtaposition of the simplistic joy and beauty and individual can have while horrific tragedies are being committed in relative proximity. Wikipedia has a short thing on it as well under the WWI section of: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edith_Tolkien
The Dragons no longer fly, the Hobbits no longer feast, the dwarves no longer craft, and even the elves have left at last now all that remains is smoke and steam in a world of dark stars and fading dreams so live long in our dreams of old o friends who watched us when we were Young we will never forget the warmth of forge, the joy of feast, the beauty of trees, or the strength of scale. Forgive my lack of eloquence please
Love how you inject the Lothlorien theme by Howard Shore for a few seconds using women's voice. Effective use of bass singing at the end along with foreboding whispers ! EXCELLENT work. Tolkien would be proud, to say the least.
If Clamavi De Profundis, gets permission to help Amazon,(Petition becomes successful), their songs could really put heart into the show.(Song of Durin is one of my favourite that i would love Dwarves to sing, just like how they did Tolkien's poem, Far over the Misty Mountains, in the Hobbit Trilogy) I would like to think Gil-Galad will become a very liked character in the show, people watching his journey. Then non-readers would realise that he was there, at that battle in the very beginning of the LOTR. Imagine if show ends around where Sauron loses the ring after Isildur cuts his finger. The elves mourning Gil-Galad's death(us too) by singing this song... (shows Mordor in final scene, "In Mordor... where the shadows are.......") I think it would be a good ending for the show, and it connects itself to Peter Jackson's Trilogy. (Which will now be more significant to people, the more they understand of the Histroy of Middle-Earth, the stronger the bond they have to it)
This is even sadder when you kind of take into account the events of his death when Elendil came forward Sauron bashed him away and killed him instantly Gil’Galad enraged strode forward with his Lance to strike him down but Sauron and the one ring together were to strong for him he lifted him off the ground and from what I can account in a sort of way burned him alive? Or like sucked the life out of him with the hand the ring was on all while the army’s of the elves and men could do nothing but stare in horror that’s why in the prologue Sauron reaches down for Isildur rather than strike him with his Mace to do the same to him……..
Only in the movie. In the books Elendil and Gil-galad successfully defeat Sauron but at the cost of their lives. Isildur cuts the ring off of Sauron’s corpse.
Your songs help me to relax and fall asleep... Thank you for your music which is really beautiful, inspiring, powerful.... You + Tolkien = A true masterpiece !
This was majestic! I wish to hear more Elven songs, your outtake on Durin and Dwarven poems was amazing, but I feel the lack of Elven poems and laments... Someone mentioned Beren and Luthien's song, I strongly second that ♥ Thank you for your hard and fabulous work!
When I first read the poem in the books , the last 3 lines confused me ... I thought he went to mordor and joined with Sauron and became one with the Shadow .... Now I understand that he went to the war and died bravely ...
@@EbonFang_92 it was the actor who played isildor's fault he basically went to Peter and said "hey it would make more sense if it was my army you know cause I'm the king not some unimportant Gil galad" and Peter gave the thumbs up
I first read the Hobbit and trilogy and later saw the movies. To me one of the most interesting aspects of the mythos is the bards' tales, the poetry and song telling of great deeds. This verse in particular was always one of my favorites. Your rendition of it really brings its to life in an epic way . Subscribed.
You guys are amazing, like seriously, this was the most recent song I got addicted to from LOTR and now it's here. You guys gotta keep doing these, and stuff from other fantasy lore, it's astounding what you guys can do.
that was amazing, a great addition. perhaps next up you could do more ecclesiastical chant again? perhaps the Dies Irae, in preparation for All Souls on November 2nd? ! ? *salivates imagining your voices singing that haunting piece of Catholic poetry*
Tolkien always had a way of bringing out the deepest feelings in his poems and songs. His religious background and theme made him see deep into things. Notice how with the fall of the darkness and in every story, the people look to the hope of the One above all returning to make things right and reunite his peoples. Read Silmarillion for that bit.
Did Tolkien ever do any songs or poems about Souron or Mordor? Other than the Ring Poem obviously. It might be cool to hear an arrangement for one of those if he did.

Out of all the vocal interpretations out there on the internet of Tolkien's work you guys are definitely doing the best job. The intonation, climatic point, emotion (which others lack) - it's all there.
J. R. R. is somewhere up there, proud of your work
My ears are literally convulsing from sheer epicness. I need *way* more of this in my life.
Can you sing at my funeral? Seriously, everything you've done so far is amazing.
A truly Incredible rendition CDP! you are the first to professionally sing and upload a rendition of this legendary piece of musical literature. Thank you so much guys.
Strictly speaking, the Tolkien Ensemble did a version. But this one is great, too.
I said "professionally". That rules out the Tolkien Ensemble version. I've shown both versions to some friends of mine who are world class musicians and they all gave superior credits to CDP, without doubts.
Search "Tolkien Ensemble" and "Gil-galad" on your platform of choice.
CDP's version is by far superior.
m.ua-cam.com/video/9wAH0SEtgdI/v-deo.html
I believe this is professional, although the band didn't publish it on UA-cam themselves.
This band is God's gift to us all. I am so grateful for all your songs!

Gil-galad was an Elven-king.
Of him the harpers sadly sing;
the last whose realm was fair and free
between the Mountains and the Sea.
His sword was long, his lance was keen.
His shining helm afar was seen;
the countless stars of heaven's field
were mirrored in his silver shield.
But long ago he rode away,
and where he dwelleth none can say;
for into darkness fell his star
in Mordor where the shadows are.
Can I say goosebumps? This is wonderful. I can't wait to hear more.
Goosebumps all over the body tbh
Andrew Bonham mmmm...musical frission...
I love how UA-cam is once again recommending me this video as a part of a christmas playlist. The thumbnail of Mordor is especially festive!
One of my favorite parts of reading Lotr is listening to the Clamavi songs every time I arrive to the poems in the text.
Amazing rendition. There are basically so much words about Gil Galad in the book. And yet. You feel how beautiful he was. Not as powerful as Feanor. Not as wise as Galadriel. But, in a sense, better than both of them combined.
Thanks - remember me, the last the High Kings of the Noldor. Gil-galad.
Are there really 12 Gil-galads?
no I am only and true
Elves never truly die... They await Dagor Dagorath.
Metal
How did it feel dying by the burning hands of Sauron?
Please do the song of Beren and Luthien. It's the most tolkienish text you could sing since it was probably the most important story of Middle-Earth's lore, at least to Tolkien
Ronan Thibaut he wrote Lúthian Tenuviel on her tombstone, and they wrote Beren on his.
It's a bit long. The full lay of leithian was over 4200 verses long
Long, yes, but that's why it's a lay. It's singable, and I'd love to see them truly make something great of it
UP!!!!! yes please!
The last line is so sad. "For into darkness fell his star..."
1:34 - 1:47 The Host Of The Eldar. Absolutely beautiful.
In MoRRRRRdoooor where the shadoooows aRRRRRe! Perfect!
The days of old will never return...
Neither will they be forgotten!
Nothing brings as much joy to my bleak and barren soul as does listening to this song.
This is fantastic. I've listened to it several times today, it gets under your skin.
Love how you inject the Lothlorien theme by Howard Shore for a few seconds using women's voice. Effective use of bass singing at the end along with foreboding whispers ! EXCELLENT work. Tolkien would be proud, to say the least.
this is fantastic, thank you so very much for creating and sharing this beautiful piece
We might actually get to see Gil-galad now that we know the amazon show is taking place in the second age
He appeared in the extended opening of the Fellowship of the Ring.
Cardinal Ham'N'Eggs ik but that was like a second long
If Clamavi De Profundis, gets permission to help Amazon,(Petition becomes successful), their songs could really put heart into the show.(Song of Durin is one of my favourite that i would love Dwarves to sing, just like how they did Tolkien's poem, Far over the Misty Mountains, in the Hobbit Trilogy)
I would like to think Gil-Galad will become a very liked character in the show, people watching his journey. Then non-readers would realise that he was there, at that battle in the very beginning of the LOTR.
Imagine if show ends around where Sauron loses the ring after Isildur cuts his finger. The elves mourning Gil-Galad's death(us too) by singing this song... (shows Mordor in final scene, "In Mordor... where the shadows are.......")
I think it would be a good ending for the show, and it connects itself to Peter Jackson's Trilogy. (Which will now be more significant to people, the more they understand of the Histroy of Middle-Earth, the stronger the bond they have to it)
@@checkmate9099 This is a good idea.
You'll see a black gil-galad, the way things are going.
This song starts on earth then uplifts you to heaven then drags you down to hell.
Its beauty is a class apart.
Goosebumps all over.
@@jamarswope2341 that is correct.
Sauron’s skin is so hot that nothing can touch him without being burnt. Him actually holding onto you is a death sentence.
“Elendil came forward and Sauron bashed him away killing him instantly.” Lmao what?
Thank you so much. Been Waiting for this for such a long Time
I swear to God, I nearly cried. The second verse is so chilling. Never change, my friends!
Outsanding composition! Beautifully performed! Excellent visuals! Bravo! Encore!
Thank you, CdeP, for your many lovely songs. Much appreciated!
depuis le temps que j'attendais de trouver les poèmes de Tolkien ! c'est vraiment très beau ! merci .
fantastic!!! its perfect! The Timing, the Voices! Perfect to drift in Tolkiens World! Thank you so much :)
Amazing work. I am constantly in awe of the way that you guys can breathe life into Tolkien
This is actually incredible, can't thank you and your family enough!
I want to say it is the best, but i can't because all of your productions are perfect all the same! Thanks CDP!
Good grief the note at 2:27. Double-low B-flat. Incredible.
Your songs help me to relax and fall asleep...
Thank you for your music which is really beautiful, inspiring, powerful....
You + Tolkien = A true masterpiece !
Been waiting for this for literally years.
There are no words that can describe your amazing voices. Truely you have the voices of the gods. All of the gods.
I'm so Gil-GLAD you made this
GET OUT!!!!!!!!
Mrjake92100
Booooo...
This was majestic! I wish to hear more Elven songs, your outtake on Durin and Dwarven poems was amazing, but I feel the lack of Elven poems and laments...
Someone mentioned Beren and Luthien's song, I strongly second that ♥
Thank you for your hard and fabulous work!
King under the mountain PLEASEEEEEE!! Your songs of the Dwarfs are Sooo EPIC!!!
Zaratustra Om they will next month
This is, to date, your greatest song. It just tickles all the right places
Stop making such good music I cannot stop listening.
Wow, this is incredible! Excellently done. It really feels cinematic, as if it would be found in one of the films. Love your work!
Love the Elven Theme that she sings during 1:34 Nice little addition to the song.
This is one of your best works. It captured me to know more about Gil-galad and how he died. In other words your music is amazing.
Complimenti davvero un ottimo lavoro. Continuate così per fan, come me,così affiatati di J.R.R. Tolkien questo è nettare
It fills me with joy every time I see you guys have uploaded a song, these are truly glorious
When I first read the poem in the books , the last 3 lines confused me ... I thought he went to mordor and joined with Sauron and became one with the Shadow .... Now I understand that he went to the war and died bravely ...
Yeah, they didn't show it in the movies, and I had to look it up.
Subscribed.
1:34 this is the reprise of Haldir's theme. Chills. For everything in this video
OK. Ready for battle! Thank you for such wonderful music.
That song sent shivers down my spine
Easily the most memorable and moving piece of music I’ve ever heard
At 1:20
Who is the woman singing? Did she ever sing other songs? She has a so angelic voice, omg.
bvuiqwopoandis I believe she sings the verses of the South Wind in "The Lament of Boromir" video on this channel
And she's also the Ent wife in The Ent and the Ent Wife, and sings Luthien's verses in the song of Beren and Luthien.
Sounds like a young kid to me
i never thought i could love something as much as i love this channel and this music. Thanks for this music, i cried by the way.
King under the mountain next please.
bigpollett n yes please! 😁
Omg it would be so good
The King Beneath The Mountains*
they will. they said it under the new video!
done
You guys are amazing, like seriously, this was the most recent song I got addicted to from LOTR and now it's here. You guys gotta keep doing these, and stuff from other fantasy lore, it's astounding what you guys can do.
Amazing version of the song. It fully captures both the glory of Gil-Galad and the tragedy of his demise.
The ending is just sooo awesome
This is very, very good, as usual - but, the Max Payne face at 1:00 still got me, lol!
I'm crying...it's so beautiful
Absolutely phenomenal! This really makes me want to hear songs like Tom bombadil's song in your pondering style
that was amazing, a great addition. perhaps next up you could do more ecclesiastical chant again? perhaps the Dies Irae, in preparation for All Souls on November 2nd? ! ?
*salivates imagining your voices singing that haunting piece of Catholic poetry*
I’ve been a fan since I heard the song of the misty mountains. Now comes another terrific rendition. Well done y’all, you guys are great :)
Oh, I've heard of this guy... he's the villain in Rings of Power
I doubt it. Elves and Men would not sing of it, and Mordor wouldn’t make it’s own, at least not any beautiful ones.
This channel is y I don't hang myself the only good consistent thing in my life
Sauron commanded his legion of orcs to dislike this song, but only 25 of them could bring themselves to do it.
I've got chills! Amazing! Thank you so much.
After so much awesome Tolkien I kinda want to hear them do some Redwall songs, just to see how they turn out.
maybe. But Tolkien first. That is vast and untapped well though.
Kathy Aird redwall songs are already in audiobooks, but I am sure these guys would do and Epic job! Diggs and Buck's duet would be fun!
Oh man Love redwall and its so sad that there is so little redwall songs out there Gulo's song would rock so would Diggs and Bucks song!! Love you Clamavi De Profundis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
...Ah, you too are a man of culture, I see.
