FYI Bao Dai was not emperor Khai Dinh 's son . He was the son of one of KD's cousins . The truth is KD never liked women . He preferred his male bodyguards , especially the handsome and muscular Nguyen Dac Vong ( Forbidden City Secrets ). Back at that time , at the Hue Court everybody knew it but nobody dared to talk about his preference and himself had to hide his real sexual orientation as well . Almost all his wives became Buddhist nuns afterwards , except Hoang Thi Cuc who was already pregnant with prince Huong D. (one of his cousins) before he married her as his third wife . It was the best gift for him from his cousin.That was the reason why Nguyen Phuc Vinh Thuy was the unique `child`of Khai Dinh and inherited the throne in 1926. If you compared their photos , you would realize right away they did not look like each other at all (KD was short , skinny and ugly and BD was tall and good looking ) .
Cai Hot is not for beating people , but it's a symbol of the imperial authority . It's called Sceptre in English . It was usually made of gold and jade or ivory . The British monarchs also always carry this golden sceptre on their right hand and the golden globe on their left hand , during official ceremonies there .
