I recently received a 30-degree Superior hammock, (gathered end) and I love it. I decided to use it a week ago during "dog Days" which is the hottest and muggiest time of the year in Virginia. It was comfortable to sleep in and I had a decent sleep. I did not bring my 30-degree top quilt, instead I used a Dutch quilt liner and a small fleece blanket which worked out for me. The superior hammock is my go to hammock. No more fussing with the UQ and my whole body is warm and comfortable. Thanks Marine for your videos. When I bought my hammock back in January, I received a free UQP during a special sale. Sweet Deal!!
The Superior hammock can be tough during those "Dog Days". I could sleep with nothing on top. And may still be warm. Other than those days. I just love that hammock. I am thinking of getting the -40° hammock. Thank you user-nr4qf8lk3q for watching.. Much appreciated!
Awesome info per usual. I am a bit of a weight weenie so I don't see myself using a bridge hammock. I could pick one up for car camping for when I have a little one with just to lounge around. I have an ultralight halfwit from Dutch which you also had a video on previously. It's where I got the idea. I been rocking it in the 1.0 fabric for 2 years and it's still going strong. With my Dyneema Falcon tarp and Halfwit hammock it's one of the lightest systems there is. And I am ,5'7" so it's 10.5 foot length is adequate. I tried the sleeping pad in the hammock idea once, I got a special inflatable hammock version sleep pad from Klymit. I did not enjoy it. I promptly picked up a few underquilts from Hammock Gear. You're looking great Marine. Tell Runner I said hi. Appalachian Sunrise song is lit. Semper Fi
I just got back from a week long of Car Camping in Northern Minnesota. I slept great in my Bridge Hammock. Runner showed up a couple of days ago pulling a portable hammock ( camper trailer ) behind his truck. I know he did not sleep as good as I did. Foe a gram weenie ( ultralight hiker ). The Dutchware gear Halfwit would be hard to beat.
@@AdventureswiththeMarine Hammock update! I bought a double but I think its too small for my 5'10 180lbs to sleep comfortably. I can get the angle, but I have the edge of the hammock right by my face and it's tight on my shoulders. The XL version should be here next week. I also had to make a small neck pillow cause my neck gets all wonky from the angles from being too big. Also also, definitely not a paid advertisement, but that Forest Green Mayan Hammock is probably one of the nicest textiles I've ever gotten my hands on. They make a really nice hammock. It's nothing crazy, but I was very impressed with the quality and just looks nice IMO.
@@AdventureswiththeMarine Also also, no problem dude, thanks for putting out videos. I always say "someone's made a video about blah blah blah" and you were the guy that made that one random video I was looking for 😊
One thing to consider is that the hammock is so comfortable it often completely changes the way people sleep. Many who sleep on their stomachs when on a mattress find they do not need to do so in a hammock. The lack of pressure points and slightly elevated head make a huge difference. Most people also toss and turn less while in a hammock. Even so, for some individuals, it IS possible to sleep on one’s stomach while in a gathered end hammock. I suspect it has to do with one’s height as I have seen this more with shorter adults and with children. But I would not rule it out.
I like your thinking. I am working on a tutorial called: 3 tips or adjustments for a better night of sleeping in a hammock. In which I will be covering that issue in part 3. You are a very wise hammocker. Thank you Rebecca for your great insight.
Just got back today from a week long car camping trip in Northern Minnesota. Slept like a baby. I love those saddle bags on the Warbonnet Ridgerunner for storing stuff on the sides. Thank you Brijoolz for watching. I really appreciate it.
Another great video! I watched ur hammocks for beginners last year. I have never slept better in my life while camping….thanks for ur recommendations and info!! I will be doing my own review of my hammock soon and will definitely make sure to put ur link in my description so people can find ur beginner hammock videos!! Thanks again for the content!
I love my bridge hammock but if your tarp is low and tight in storm mode you have to be careful of the spreader bars hitting and possibly damaging your tarp, especially as you get in and out of the hammock. I go with internal poles on my tarp to give extra room. It's an effective solution, but adds weight and expense to the setup.
Speaking of summer ventilation, Xpower makes lithium powered fan (brushless DC variable speed) that will run like 2 days nonstop on a single charge. A guy could hang one in a tree and have a slight breeze.
Your no banana.. Great vid. Got an old 10thWonder, which is a very big double layer, and massive mosquito net. Thinking to get a onewind, is ticking the boxes for me. cheers from Wales, UK..
The problem I have as a side sleeper in my gathered end hammock is the fabric going tight on one side of the head end, opening up and letting cold air in under the underquilt on that side. No matter how I adjust things, underquilt or hammock, the fabric stays tight and straight with a inch gap and not curved to follow the underquilt end. Maybe I have to shove some clothing there to block it up!
Two ways, I believe that will solve that problem. First, like you said. But you would want to use something made of down. Also. keeping it place will be challenging. Second would be to sew in a large down baffle. That I believe would solve the problem. Another thing to consider is a under quilt protector to block the wind. They work very well. Thank you Wazoologist for watching. I really appreciate it.
@@AdventureswiththeMarine Thanks. I have thought of making a long down pillow-like structure with velcro and a strip of velcro on the underquilt to keep it in place.
Those bridge hammocks are pretty cool! I don’t know too much about them. I have a Hennessy Expedition Zip that I’m pretty happy with, but I’ve never camped in any others. The only other hammock I have experience with is an ENO Doublenest (I’d occasionally use it to try to sleep in the back of a C-130)!
Great info, thanks for rundown! I have the same dual level Warbonnet Ridgerunner along witha SuperFly tarp. I have had for awhile but have only used it for day use. Have to figure out the tarp rigging, knots, etc., sort of intimdating. Any go to written and or video resources to make that a bit easier to figure out? Also, how or what do you use to sleep in it in your home?
First, I like to use the Dutchware Gear Stingers. Two of them, one for each end with 20 feet of Zing-it. I have showed how it is done on a video Called: " How to hang a tarp " and also "Tarp ridgelines". Please check them out. How about I do a Q&A video about that. Would you mind if I use your question and name?

To be honest with you. I am not sure. But not enough! But really. You just need one good one to take care of you. There is nothing like hang in the clouds with a great view.

My brother and sister-in-law. Paddled down the whole length of the Mississippi. ( from Minnesota to the Gulf ) last year. Before the trip. I had them try all of my hammocks. They both picked the Warbonnet Blackbird XLC. They said they will never use a tent again. Now they want to go winter camping!

I got those bumpers from Arrow Head Equipment to protect the tarp. But it is a lot nicer to have those poles. The room they provide is amazing.
I made my own bridge using trekking poles as spreaders; I just use regular rubber tips on the pole’s tips
