If Agatha Christie keeps doing bigger and bigger twists I'm kinda worried the murderer in her last book is gonna be my Dad or something.
😂
“The Curtain” is a treat indeed 🤭
@@branka9389 It is! I agree 💯
it is :)
That would be a funny twist, wouldn't it? Thank you for the smile.
"...maybe make a pit stop at therapy, I DON'T KNOW."
honestly iconic.
ah yes, the epic battle between emma and her archenemy, ms agatha christie, continues
Promise me you'll not stop doing this!!! Please 🥺🥺
pinky promise!
i screamed when i saw you put a picture of Wednesday Addams as Josephine because that's exactly how i pictured her while reading hahaha
yes! first thought that came into my head too haha
What can brighten up your Sunday? That's right, Emma with her mustache (better than any beard I've ever grown) solving another crime mystery. Love you so much for being like this 💜
"He gets around, he's Nick Cannon" 🤣🤣🤣
The mustache game is strong with this one.
i hope u know how much comfort and blessing u rain onto us through ur videos emma. ur humor, intelligence, and rambles are what i look forward to each and every week. u’re so so full of passion and love and it shows! thank you for all that u do! sending lots of love to u, calcifer, and ur partner ❤️
this made my weekend, thank you so much for your kind words
Knives Out definitely took inspiration from Crooked House. I also felt like it took inspiration from After the Funeral too
You should try and solve The Murder on the Links. It's my favorite Agatha Christie so far!
ooh I read that one a couple years ago, really loved it as well!
Your « Salut » was absolutely perfect. So perfect I almost thought I clicked on the wrong video. From a French point of view : franchement bien joué 👍.
these are honestly one of my fav type of videos ever even tho i literally know the twists because i read almost every agatha Christie book ever but i still watch the whole thing
These vlogs trying to prove "who did it" in Agatha Christie are a real hoot. I really enjoy them.
ive been wishing for another one of these vids for ages! please keep doing these theyre so much fun :D
will definitely keep making them!!
I love these videos of Emma Poirot! 🔎❤️🔍👀
Just 43 mins of laughter-filled joy, this video
If you ever get tired of Agatha Christie, might I suggest Ngaio Marsh? I adore Christie just like most other mystery nerds, but Marsh's book, Enter a Murderer, might be my favorite from that era. I could literally read it like once every other month
Ah, you finally guessed one right! I think it was mentioned in the book that Josephine showed sociopathic tendencies since when she was very young, and that's why the grandfather forbade her from attending a ballet class with other children, and also had her homeschooled (instead of taking her to therapy lol). So yeah, i feel like it's a genetic thing, combined with being isolated from other children her age, that kinda awoke these destructive tendencies in such a young child.
Also YES, Charles is so insensitive at the end? Sophia, get yourself a better man.
Also, please check out The Secret of Chimneys next! It's a very complicated story with a pretty good twist as well!
When reading the book this made suspicious of Josephine but then i thought there is no way a child would be the one. Ahh! Classic Agatha.
Omg I read Crooked House like 6 years ago and I still remember the killer, I'm super excited to see if you can get it 🍿🍿
I literally screamed my favorite youTuber uploaded another video from my favorite series I'm ecstatic!!!
awe haha so glad - one of my favourite things to film too!
Hi Emma, I discovered your channel a year ago and it got me back into reading after several years of reading way less than I used to. I missed books but I was stuck in a long reading slump. Watching you share your passion for literature really made me fall in love with reading again, and your videos have been a huge source of confort during a tough year for me. Thank you so much for doing what you do ! Hope you have a lovely day ❤️
:') so incredibly happy, and so glad you fell back in love with reading!!! sending you all the love
This is the best series, I never want it to end
calcifer was trying to help solve the case, too 😭🧡
Yeah, the Calcifer cameo was a big bonus.
Omggg we need more of this!!!
I’ve been eagerly waiting for this video!
FINALLY I have been HOPING for you to do another one of these!
This was delightful!
I WAS WAITING FOR THIS VIDEO
I’M SO HAPPY YOU DID ANOTHER ONE 😭😭
i love these videos
I love this series style, you're so entertaining.
I am very much in need of an Emma video today. Thank you ❤️
These are so so fun! Really enjoyed the crooked house!
I love these videos! Emma solving Agatha Christie mysteries is prime entertainment!
these videos are like the best thing on the internet, no joke
These are, hands down, some of my favourite videos ever. Classy as always, Detective 👏
Thank you for this video!! I’ve been working on my thesis all day and it’s not going well and I just needed something to cheer me up and this definitely did the trick. These are some of my favorite videos 🤩
When I was working on my thesis I looked forward to 5am, because that's when the Arby's across the street opened. I'd walk there to clear the air (cough, cough), suppress some odd thoughts while short-cutting the gas station, and treat myself to a hot bun and coffee. Good luck. I think you'll look back on these times with pleasure.
Make more of these ones...
It's fun and interesting to watch ❤
i recently moved to university and it is wonderful and so exciting but it is also hard sometimes! all your videos but your little vlogs especially give off such calm, warm, safe energy that I’ve been using them as a safe space when i get especially stressed. thanks for helping a struggling lit student out w ur loveliness. all the love xx
Thank you thank you thank you for Milanote. You just saved my life
Finally another one!!!!💜💜💜
i was about to watch this but it's on my tbr so best of luck! i'll come back when i'm done with it!
Emma, I ADORE your sense of humour.😂
This channel is my comfort place
When I got this notification, I dropped everything and started reading Crooked House. The ending blew me away. Excited to see how you do!
I recommend Five Little Pigs 🐖🐖🐖(also called Murder in Retrospect), the ABC Murders📔 , or the Sittaford Mystery for a cozy winter read (aka Hazelmoor Murders) for your next books! Loooove these videos! I've read all of Agatha Christie's novels and you should definitely check out David Suchet's Poirot series after you read them its really well done! 🥰 a fellow Canadian bookworm
Finally finished reading/listening to this book and now I can watch this video. Finally! I know I'm gonna enjoy this. Thank you, Emma ☺️.
this is very interesting to watch >
I'm just laughing at Emma's moustache as she speaks 😆 love the video btw ❤️
43 minutes of pure fun
Lauging all through the video
The timing of this video was impeccable. Just this past weekend my roommate hosted a Dungeons and Dragons one-shot that was based on The Murder of Roger Ackroyd. She was inspired to do this by your video (which she forbade me from watching, knowing that I am a big fan of yours). It was so much fun to try and solve it with my friends (we were successful!) and then having you release this video the following day was just the cherry on the cake. I watched it with my roommate and now I finally get to watch your Roger Ackroyd video tonight! So many lovely Agatha Christie vibes in my life right now :)
I know I’m super late and you’ve probably already chosen the next one, but I would LOVE to see you do Death on the Nile. It’s a personal favourite (I know everyone says that) but so so so tricky and impressive. It wraps everything up in a believable (though tricky, as I already stated) way and it did leave me with my jaw on the floor :D
i'm part of the "i don't really know what's going on nor do i care for mystery novels but i love watching emma's videos and hearing her voice" squad, in the most loving way possible. ✌🏻💗
I love your videos, and I could listen to you talking for hours literally. Also, the fact that you are an F1 fan it's epic. Thank you for every video that you make, and I love seeing you disguised as Sherlock! Love from Italy!
ohmygosh Emma this was wonderful
haha so glad you enjoyed
YESSSSSSSSSS YESSS YES THIS IS THE CONTENT I WANT IM SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW YOU DO NOT UNDERSTANDDDD AAAAAAA im gonna be so upset when u finish all of her books.
The Crooked House is one of my fav Christies for sure
I love the character of the mustage man 🤣🤣🤣 and his french accent!
Also I'm impressed by your acting skills tho.. Lots of love❤ ✨
Sophia has some of the best observations about people. She's quite dispassionate about most things. She admits Brenda is more playacting a tragic flirtation than involved in an actual affair and that women do find Aristide attractive, even though he's "ugly" and old because of his charisma.
If Josephine's grandfather wouldn't let her do ballet I'd have bought her an ice cream, told her to go for a walk and leave gramps to me.😂❤️
Started watching on my phone and realized I needed a much bigger screen for this vlog ! You are tellement drôle ! Évidemment, j'étais bien contente d'entendre un peu de French in this vlog! What else is there to say but that j'ai beaucoup aimé ! 🕵♀
Oui, j'aime ce, bien sur.
The you v. agatha videos are one of my favorites! I've read a lot of Christie and I think the only one I've guessed the murder correctly is The Mystery of the Blue Train.
Ahh I am so excited! I didn’t really love this book (especially since I found the twist so easy) and also like it’s just stupid bonkers, but I’m so excited to watch you experience it.
the ending was definitely a bit out of nowhere lol
I had exactly the same feelings about the book!
@@emmiereads I had read multiple Agatha Christie’s before this, so I did somewhat deduce it was most likely to fall under a certain ‘type’ of hers, which I class as “a twist for English sensibilities of the time”. Like if you read this as a middle aged English lady in 1949 you’d be shocked! But it doesn’t hit as hard now. Plus I disliked the murderer upon introduction, so I was biased against them the whole time.
addicted❤
Haha love this. If you haven’t read it yet, I’d recommend Curtain. Just try solving that one!
This book was tragically spoiled for me, so I knew who did it when I read it. Which sucks, because it is absolutely one of my favorite Christie novels. So it was a joy to see you try to solve it!!😂
Don't make me laugh like that when I've just taken a drink! That first scene . . . with the funnel . . . OMG!😂
honestly I'm really impressed that you wore the mustache the whole time
I have to listen each and every sentence spoken by you. Missing a sentence is to miss a sempiternity. ♥️♥️♥️♥️
I just love those videos. I had to wait until I had read Crooked House so I could watch it without being spoiled ^^
I had a theory all along that was wrong XD when I read the truth at the end, I was like 🤯 Agatha blew my mind. Again.
And then my brain went like "wait, there were some clues, like here, and here, and here..." but I didn't see them when I first read them. Or I saw them but did not realize they were actual clues. Amazing.
You should do Murder on the Orient Express next. Love these videos!
I was suspicious of Josephine since the beginning of the video! So crazy. I wanted to save the video for later and read the book but your video was so good I had to finish it.
I always try to solve her mysteries as well, which is why it is so interesting to watch you spend time with them and come up with your own theories. I highly recommend Five Little Pigs. I just finished it and it's stunning. Almost as captivating as And Then There Were None though in a completely different manner. I would love to watch you (attempt to) solve that one but either way, I hope you enjoy it if you ever come across it!
3:15 "Where's my spoon ?" (that cracked me up)
My favorite is Five Little Pigs as well :) The Hollow has a pretty clever twist, and The Labours of Hercules is set in a hotel in the Swiss Alps, so there is that :)
Crooked House is very interesting! I like the radio play too. It’s interesting how Mrs. Agatha writes about a child psychopath. Also Five little pigs with Poirot is my favorite! Very good story 👍🏻
I got my first cold of the year and feel like shit but then I see Emmie has uploaded a video and life is a little less cruel xD
ah oh no, hope it goes away soon!!
ngl this is the first agatha book i got right bc i already knew from when josephine said like "im a detective too, u people dont suspect the one who is closer to you" " i know everything" and when the writer dad said "nobody living in this house is in need of money" and way she kept repeating "i loved ballet but grandfather didnt let me do it" and like edith woundn't have killed him and nanny like why she knew she was dying and then she just randomly killed her husband and nanny and her granddaughter?
I started reading it because of your video
I came here after seeing the movie to see if, like I expected, everyone else realised who the killer was at the same time.
Enjoyed the video and, for the things you said weren't tied up, the film actually addresses them. I normally wouldn't recommend film over original text but I think they do a good job of that part of the book.
Express orient, the mystery of the seven dials and a murder is announced are my personal favorites, maybe you should try one of them next time
BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE
If you haven’t already please do the abc murders or one two buckle my shoe, they are 2 of my favourite Agatha stories
"I really searched basic white man." 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Can we please be friends? Lol
You should put these in a playlist.
you know it's about to go down when French Emma shows up
There are mustache cups for tea drinkers. They have a little mustache guard so you don't dip your mustache in the tea.
oooh, tough luck : I was rooting for you! Better luck next time.
Every time I watch your videos (since Cal grew up) I’ve been getting frickin scared bc every time he miaws I actually think is my cat and that she’s in pain😂 So I have to pause to check and realize it was Calcifer all this time 😂❤️
i read the book and watched the vlog and loved it. Murder on the Links is very overly dramatic (it could be guessed maybe ) but its just plot twist after plot twist after plot twist
Your French accent is perfect 👌
that flask is gonna be a tough one to wash
Christie's plots almost always get repeated somewhere down the line. This is an exception, the twist is so ridiculous that it's already a miracle it was made once.
Edit: It's interesting how Christie often connects outward ugliness to inward ugliness. The characters described as the least pleasant physically can often times be the most vindictive. It's an unorthodox approach which probably has more to do with external social pressures, but it sort of adds depth to superficial features as if the surface level is not just a façade meant to mask anything deeper.
Actually, now that I think about it, a good deal of her criminals have very petty motives that lack sympathy.
I mean, Agatha Christie also had a lot of murder mysteries where the killer was the charming bachelor or the seductive young lady. I'd say most of her stories had the most picturesque characters as the murderers.
Though, it is true that outward ugliness was often connected with a bad personality back then, not just with this specific author, but with a lot of stories and even fairytales. It's still a thing in a lot of fiction.
@@skyhideaway Yeah, I meant it only as in it works as a somewhat interesting perspective given that view is no longer considered appropriate.
I think its true in a lot of cases when people don't have what others do in this example looks they often become embittered and resentful look at all the people you find who will use any excuse to tear others down because they don't have what they do its really rather sad to see
Peril At End House by Agatha Christie - Agatha Christie I hope you do this one next 😊
I fucking love this video. Probably one of my favourite of yours. Would love you to do more of these 😍
If you like mystery books I recommend the Flavia de Luce series (the books can be read as stand-alones). Flavia is investigating the murders, and on the surface the books look like Nancy Drew, because Flavia is also a child, but these books are not what they seem. They are so good so beautifully written. Flavia is such and interesting character, she loves chemistry and poisons, and has an old chemistry lab. The books are very smart, gothic, dark and take place is a small English village in the 50s. I recomend them to everyone who loves mysteries 😊
Another favorite of mine.
As someone with a hefty beard and mustache, this is the secret to how you eat and drink with facial hair: confidence and napkins. The confidence is to go ahead with eating something despite knowing it's going to make a mess because dangit, wings are tasty, and then the napkins to clean up afterward.
