For the rest of us - a more accessible version of this game: Guessing classic books by their covers.
😂
The only way i can get these right is that the name is on the cover 😂
@@hanaem842 Sometimes the title is really small print so keeps you on your toes!
Lol
More like: "here's the title, who's the author"? 🤣
I’m just going to pretend I never left!
I remember reading a biography of Jim Morrison (The Doors) years ago, and I recall a passage talking about how before he was famous, Jim would challenge his friends to take any book off his book shelf, open the start of any chapter, start reading out loud, and Jim would be able to name the author and the book the passage was from. This video reminded me of that.
jim was a beast. he wrote papers from books that were so obscure his teacher had to look them up in library of congress to even verify they were real. (they were).
What was the biography called? I'm looking for a good Jim Morrison biography.
@@AnUncreativePerson "No One Here Gets Out Alive"
@@cye101 Thanks
I believe he was a big Aldous Huxley reader. He was inspired by the book The doors of perception. If I remember correctly....
This makes me wonder if there’s a different way to engage with books that would lead to the ability to do this. Love seeing you two together, thank you for all the lovely content!
this was so much fun to watch (and very impressive lol), we love carolyn!!
I found it cute that you looked at each other because I really thought they did it for a cute editing and they were in different rooms recording until 0:19
Your friendship is so adorable, I think I can speak for a lot of your fans when I say that I wish I had a friend that was interested in similar literature or even reading lol.
CARRROOOOLLLLYYNNN!!! 🎉❤ I enjoyed her video so much so thrilled to watch! The internet LOVES your friendship! 🥰
I'm so happy I found your channel, not only you have an immaculate book taste, but your voice is also very soothing:)
"Marley was dead." Great job, Emma! You and Carolyn makes such great videos! 🙂
Emma crushed this, buuut, being fair, Carolyn had to guess some books that she hadn't read hahaha. I want the rematch!
Seeing you two together is good for my soul ☺️
This was so much fun! I feel like I also have a freakish memory with stuff like first lines, so I felt very seen watching Emma absolutely crush this
You and Carolyn together is such a vibe!! I love these vids ❤
this was so enjoyable to watch! love listening to you both talk about books
thank you, thank you! Didn't realize I needed this in my life
I love this!! So entertaining! Please make this a series, also Carolyn is so lovely. Love the both of you!! ❤️❤️
The perfect duo! This is so fun!! 😍 Min. 16:08 🙌🏽
OMG, Emma! You have such a good memory! 💪🏽 I forgot the first lines of the “Broken Wings” although I read it this week! 😂 I’m Carolyn!
I did enjoy this "first sentence guessing" thing. You two are just gorgeous and both videos are simply amazing ! Thank you for the fun and book recommendations ^^
this and carolyn's are so cute to watch 🤍
You nailed it, Emma! You and Carolyn are perfect together! Love this video! ❤️❤️
Have been waiting for this aaaaa!!!!
This was so much fun! I love your energy together
Emma is so good, I was like Carolyn with her omg all the way through 😄
That was delightful. Thank-you for putting a smile in this rather dull day.
I needed this duo sm😊
Love seeing you guys together!!!!
this is very nicely edited, so nice to guess along! :)
so happy to see you guys together !
Was waiting for this one after seeing Carolyn's. Very impressed. With both.
Literally pulled "A Moveable Feast" off my shelf to start now!
Your videos inspire my love for literature
Emma, you killed this! I am terrible at this. I got 0! To be fair I hadn’t read any of them. I am intrigued by most of them now. Also loved watching you two together 💙
Wow!!!!! That was amazing! You have a memory like an elephant.
Never let me go. This book blew me away! I still can’t stop wondering what it was about that book that moved me so deeply. I’m still confused and can’t explain it to myself. I would love to hear your review on this book one day.
The first line of The Old Curiosity Shop is "Although I am an old man, night is generally my time for walking." It isn't until page 7 that he mentions the 'inquiry'. I think you have an abridged version of what is a very long novel.
Platinum friendship, I'm still moved that you two finally met
Classic books are essential to read when you're a newbie when it comes to literature. There's a variety of authors to choose from. The writing styles in that particular time period are far more eloquent and captivating right from the get go. Emmie and Carolyn may be the definition of friends for life. They just get on with each other seamlessly.
That was fun. I read the Turn of the Screw and the Yellow Wallpaper and I didn’t guess. You are so good in this ❤
I did enjoy this awesome challenge. Looking forward for the next one.
Your friendship is so precious!
Wonderful this is one of my favorite challenges 💟🙂 I really like this older booktuber challenges. Super fun thanks Emmie
Y’all are so fun together. Countries cannot divide and hope to see more crossover content (and maybe even Emma in NYC).
This was fun, you guys need to develop this idea of literary games/trivia for a whole series -- it has real potential, like the book guy who's gotten millions of views simply roasting bookshelves. For example, it might be fun to use the maps in Malcolm Bradbury's "Atlas of Literature" and guess what book happened in a specific map. Or guess places on Tolkien's Middle Earth map. Or guess a fictional world by its map. More of these trivia type videos, please!
Even though i read to kill a mocking bird and brave new world, i couldnt get it. Congrats Emma👏👏👏 you are amazing girls. It is Wonderful to see you together.
Emma you’re a star! ✨
My fav gorgeous gorgeous youtubers together !!!! 💗
Hell yeah 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 I don’t know who to root for, lol. These videos are so entertaining though!!! Can’t wait to watch!!
Wow! What an amazing memory! I am in awe😅
Love your enthusiasm
Your videos together are amazing
emma your brain omg!!!!!!!!!!!!! this was sooo much fun
this was so fun to watch! I was wondering if you could recommend some books that deal with losing your passion. Thank you for all your book recommendations and other content
I love On the Road and was fortunate to have read it at the perfect time, but I agree it's not the best opening line.
I felt validated as soon as you said, you thought it was to How To Kill A Mockingbird. Because that what’s I though for awhile as well 😅😂
Emma we need the rest of your vlog of reading Hundred Years of Solitude!!!!
✨Please please please do this a again! This was so fun! For example, you can also guess the front cover of a book (and then cover the title of course).✨
OMG!Love this video so much!❤
I got 3 and I’m impressed already (?)
So mad at myself for not getting cloud atlas and the yellow wallpaper!!!
With Kerouac it is not the actual first sentence but the rhythm of the opening paragraph that one can gauge what his book is supposed to be. The pastoral and florrid opening of most novels were passé to Kerouac and his peers by then and he took off the reins a bit so that, while there's a period, it behaves like a drum beat of phrases that are meant to have a run-on feeling.
this was so fun!! can't say i found as many as you but still
I gotta say I am impressed too. I just read Dorian Gray because of Emma's straw poll of best books in which Dorian Gray was frequently at number one. Have you memorised all the books you have read?
Excellent Emma, and Carolyn is so gracious!❤️
Emma is off the chart!
Emma, can you do a short books recommandations video
I didn’t get any right, mostly because I haven’t read most of them, except Cloud Atlas and Great Gatsby. Those lines sounded vaguely familiar, but there’s no way I’d ever place them. Definitely not that quickly!
Although I am not usually a novel reader (I prefer non fiction) I find your videos charming, absolutely charming.
Im so impressed by both of you playing this tbh you'd both trounce me lmao
Now I want to do this with fantasy books though
i only got the great gatsby and cloud atlas :) nice video
The ending of Orient Express was a cop out.
I got a few of those, but have not heard of many of them. 😮
Love you guys! Both winners to me 🌷
Awesome! I loved both videos! Hopefully Emma likes Eugene Onegin!
yeees omg my favourite type of content
I have read most of those and missed most of them, LOL. But on the other hand, my superpower is being forgetful of plots so I can read books I've read before or watch movies I've seen before and it's all new again. It was very cool that you got so many right though! :)
I’m like that too!😂 I don’t know if it’s a blessing or a curse
Great job Emma😃😃😃. I’m happy that I was able to guess the second one😂😂 The Great Gatsby.
I did great with Carolyn's but only got one of yours! 😭
I was so impressed with myself that I guessed the great gatsby correctly 😮 almost everything else though … I had no clue.
Wish I had that memory :’)
So much fun!
I already commented this on Carolyn's video haha but watch the opera Eugene Onegin (music by Tchaikovsky) after reading the book, it is incredible 🙏
I can not wait for yours next video
Hahaha you did amazing!! I knew Dorian Gray so im pleased about that 😅
I played along and my score was zero. BUT to encourage myself to read more, I will still buy myself a book😂
Same!🤣
Cute collaboration 💓💕☺️
I also always wanna say "how to kill a mockingbird" instead of "to kill a mockingbird" lmao
Where is Wuthering Heights
"It's giving Dickens"
God When!! 😭😭
It’s like the Beadle game where you have to guess the song after hearing one second.
omgg you're soo good haha I do not trust my memory to play this game 💀
That was fun!❤️
Emma Thompson does a good version of Turn of The Screw on audible.
i got the great gatsby and i was so proud
The first three seconds absolutely blew my mind.
Emma, the cinematography genius.
So cute 🥰
Emma forgot to struggle 😭😭😭
I'm looking for romance books about already married couples. Does anyone have any recommendations?
Our hosts' erudition, pleasant demeanor, and beauty all blow me away.
I feel so bad for Carolyn 🤣
Coming a few months late to express my utter outrage (/j) that Carolyn did not, in fact, read the first sentence of The Turn of the Screw. I knew it as soon as she said the title because I read that in October and that sentence was totally wrong to me, so I checked. The actual first sentence is: "The story had held us, round the fire, sufficiently breathless, but except the obvious remark that it was gruesome, as, on Christmas Eve in an old house, a strange tale should essentially be, I remember no comment uttered till somebody happened to say that it was the only case he had met in which such a visitation had fallen on a child."
Carolyn read the first sentence of Part I, so all judgement on it is unfair to Mr. James even if I cared sadly little for the book myself. Still, 'twas a fun video where I correctly guessed all the ones I had read before and had the right first sentence. And good job Emma for doing so well.
I bought myself a book and then played with you guys
Feeling proud because i got them all correct ❤🎉
