In Hoovie's video he declined a new clutch after you told him it would be about $1500. After spending $10k, a $1500 clutch seems like a wise purchase, especially if Hoovie plans on selling it.

New clutch pilot pressure plate pilot and throwing bearing plus an custom clutch pedal adjuster on the mechanical clutch in my 1966 Corvette cost 1600 last year and it was a great deal. Yeah 1500 for a clutch in that new car is OK.

For those of us watching Eric's I Do Cars channel, "forbidden glitter" is the magic phrase. Any sign of that when you pull the valve covers, and it's time to stop until you give the customer the bad news and have them make the informed decision on whether to go any further.
When you have oil with suspended bits of metal run through an engine, it's a safe assumption that just about every moving part inside the engine will need repair or replacement.
This is yet another reason why most shops prefer to just swap the long block and send the current one back as a core.
From the looks of it, I'm kinda curious how the total bill is "only" $10k. Omega charges $175 an hour for labor, and Mopar parts for the engine alone will be several thousand dollars. You don't want to put in the cheapest camshaft and lifters you see on Temu there. An engine swap is probably doable in twenty to 25 hours, but a complete teardown and rebuild on top of putting the patient back together? 🤔🤔🤔

I did put E3 plugs in at 100,000 miles and serviced the engine every 7,000 miles with Penzoil full synthetic oil. When I sold the truck the engine ran perfectly without any abnormal noises. Hellcats have the upgraded oil pump - which is the upgraded part recommend for regular trucks. actually even with timely oil changes theses hemis will have lifter failure . reason its the way the block is designed , the cam and lifters are oiled predominately by oil being slung of the crankshaft as it spins,. at idle it slings much less as well as not far enough to get oil on the cam lobes and lifter needle bearings . the cam is also much higher in the block making it even more difficult to receive adequate oiling, theres also a large oil galley pipe casting in the block which sits right below the cam this also blocks oil from being slung up on to the cam and lifters the other issue is the because of the high cam profile the lifters sit more horizontally rather then vertically any oil above the lifter falls away before reaching the needle bearings as opposed to a lower cam profile where the lifters sit more vertically . the main reason these will have lifter and cam damage is the engines design combined with HIGH IDLE TIMES. when these idle for long periods the cam and lifters suffer from starvation. and if you add in non synthetic oil in very cold climates the oil is much thicker and will contribute to the cranks ability to sling the oil up there. if you want to have no cam and lifter issues its simple , change your oil ,use synthetic oil, and dont let it idle for more then 20-30 min. but if you must all you have to do is race it up every 20 min or so even more if you want .this will get the rpms up and sling that oil up there and you'll never have a lifter issue . thanks for reading.

Keep the oil & filter changed in the gen 3 hemis! I have 2 of them in my Chrysler 300C's, a 2014 w/5.7 and a new 2023 model w/6.4. No issues with "hemi tick" in either engine. Use a good high quality synthetic oil in them. Only "ticking" I hear is the injectors firing.

The cleanliness and condition of the interior tells you a lot about how well the drivetrain was maintained. I don’t know why people just can’t do the basic maintenance on their cars. I probably over do mine but it’s all cheap compared to a major repair. I have always done 3000 miles oil changes and 30,000 trans, coolant and rear end changes. That’s about every 3 years for me. I have never had a major problem on a car ever and I’m 65 so it’s been a lot of cars and trucks.

I've seen quite a few repos that ended up scrapped because they were that torn up. That list includes high-end luxury SUVs and sports cars that were bought new. One memorable vehicle was a Cadillac Escalade that was bought new for $105,000. By the time they got it back, the right side was smashed in its whole length, it'd gone 30,000 miles with no maintenance, and the interior was trashed.

I think based on my career in automotive diagnostics the amount you are charging on an engine that is trash is not out of line. A complete remanufacture of the engine is necessary. I had 2 careers one was an engine inspector for NASCAR in the 80's and I used to know everyone in the business. I did that for 10 years while getting my Commercial Instrument Pilot License. The VA Paid for that. After10 years of flying to every race every week or flying myself in my Cessna 310 I got a Job with an International Cargo Carrier and flew for them for 20 years as a Contract Pilot and I worked my way up to Captain and I was a well-educated 747 Pilot. Then I retired due to an old injury that cropped up from the Military. My early years were Military, but Scar tissue damage and a Fractured L-6 came back to haunt me bad. I had to cease everything and nothing the Doctors could do. However, that is a messed-up engine, and you are doing him right. Me I would replace the steering wheel. I am picky nice car and a worn-out steering wheel. Keep up the good work you and your wife are very good people and the most Honest company out there.

Can you show this car when it is done? I would love to hear it run and see how it looks after the transformation? I do know that the 5.7 Hemi in my daughters Jeep had the same exact lifter failure and cam wipe out. Close to 4 grand in work! I have also heard that these Hemi's do not like to sit and idle for long periods of time. I suppose at idle oil pressure is obviously lower and the circulation is poor to lots of the parts. Even with proper oil change intervals these are still big problems, but closer to 100k miles...

They aren't especially informative. If she pointed out the different ergonomic choices various manufacturers made, it would be somewhat useful, but just pointing at the touchscreen and saying "There's the touchscreen" communicates nothing.

I completely disagree with this, The interior is an important part of the car, and it is interesting to see how they wear over time. You spend ALL of your time with a car in the interior and cars that have prematurely worn interiors are not fun to spend time in. VERY short sided opinions here.

11:14 not surprising. I saw a teardown of one of these engines. And I'm not sure exactly why it's there but there is a brace that runs the entire length of the engine that sits between the crank and camshaft. And the way the cam and lifters get oiled on these push rod V8s is by the crank throwing oil. But with that brace in the way the cam and lifters aren't getting anywhere near the oil they need. The previous owner discovered the problem that every single one of these Hemis has. It just came up a lot faster because they drove it like they stole it every single day. A college student on a full ride would be my bet.
