Ahhh good questions! I never thought to mention that in my video! I didn't tear any pages out. I just glued the scraps down about a centimetre out from the spine, so the spine didn't bulk up. I also didn't glue the pages together. The phone book pages are quite thin but once you glue the scraps down they are much thicker 😊💚
I imagine when you were filling the book you used bookmarks with labels to find those ‘all green’, ‘all squares’, ‘all strips’ etc. pages to use… Such a clever idea, love it, saving it on my Pinterest board not to forget. 7:36 to glue down the negative of the stickers is a good idea too. I’ve seen something similar on channel ‘Junk Journal ideas with Donna’ in video ‘clusterbook 50 cluster ideas for junk journals’. But those were negatives of rectangular label stickers which were pasted wonky-off-centered around focal points as frames. So thanks a lot for all the ideas!
Thank you Lena! I'm really happy you're finding some videos on my channel to enjoy. I didn't use bookmarks, I just kind of flicked through pages at the end of each day and glued the scraps on my desk wherever I thought they fit and it just sort of came together with a green page and pages of strips etc lol. Hi Bonny! I think you’re the greatest! (I’m not sure greatest of what, but…) You are just so fun! Who else does all these crazy things?! You brighten my day so much! I have a huge 2 volume phone book from Seattle, they’re probably each at least 3 inches thick! I can’t remember what year, but at least 15 years! Now that everybody mostly has cell phones and no longer use land lines, these books have plummeted in size. I figured I would just include them in journals, but I’m re-thinking that! I look at so many things differently since meeting you, thank you! It’s good to stop & think. Of course it would be better if I came to a conclusion, but that’s another day’s activity! Hope you’re doing well, it’s definitely summer here now, hotter than hades! Today’s project was to make a print of every stencil from Tim Holtz that I have with all the different inks I own, so I can look through them & have a better idea how they will look in a project!! It was lots of fun, but I’m tired now! And I’m not even finished yet! So now I’m watching videos, I have to, it’s part of my education! Uh huh, my kids say!! Take care, sweetie! Erica❤
Oh wow wow Erica I remember those great big thick phone books we had before mobile phones came about lol. We used to use them to sit our computer monitors on; remember those big giant heavy monitors hahaha. Oh those were the days! Imagine collaging one of those old phone books with scraps!!! I think it would take you the next 50 years lol. We are in winter here in Australia. Today is super cold here in Sydney. I filmed a video just making book page pockets and embellishing with little paper scraps and my fingers were so cold I couldn't do anything lol . Hope you are having a lovely week! 🙂💚💚
Yay I love finding homes for those darn scraps. They are never ending lol. I am going to make some envelopes with some of the collaged pages now, and then I will pop scraps into the envelopes lol. I was thinking I can then pop those filled envelopes into pockets in journals for others to use when making clusters and embellishments. Anything to get rid of some scraps eh? lol 😂💙
Such a clever idea, will have to give this a go. I recognised the scraps from the project of the goreous orange art scrap journal. I haven't started using it yet I just love it so much. I take it out and have fun feeling it, it feels like real leather. I even clicked on the link below and watched the video again
Aww thank you Tonia. I really loved that little journal too. The orange picture was so beautiful it just had to be on the cover. Now I have to go re-watch the video aswell because i forgot what else was in there now lol. Hmmm... I also can't remember which sealer i used to get that leathery feel. From memory, I think I may have mixed and matched two different sealers lol. I really need to start filming the whole process because I never do anything the same way twice and sometimes it's hard to re-create something because experiment so much and forget by the time I want to do it again lol. 😂💚
Oh yes the muted colours are GREAT to use as backings for tags to write on and the little itty bitty scrap page would make great background for tags and such.....TFS and Happy Glueing 😊
Thanks Christa! Now just imagine if it was one of those GIANT phone books they used to have years ago! lol. Oh my gosh that would be so awesome! lol 😂💚
Hi Bonny we don’t get phone books anymore, but this is a good idea for used composition books or notebooks instead of throwing them out. I like the strip ones and the muted ones too. These look like a great starting place for icads or ATCs. Thank you for sharing. Hugs, Julie 🥰
Hi hi Julie! Yeh, I am sure we won't have them much longer either. One day phone books will be a thing of the past and become one of those coveted pieces of ephemera that crafters and junk journallers hunt down lol. Love those strip pages; reminds me of wood panel flooring lol. And they feel sooo nice! 😄💚
Haha I am glad to see I am not the only one gluing down all these scraps lol. It's so funny how so many of us have this need to use every tiny scrap lol. I am the same with fabric too. I must must use that teeeny tiny miniscule scrap lol. 😂💚
Oh my gosh! I have the stock prospectives that come to the house. They are large, and thin papers (like a phone book). I have used them to watercolor on, where the writing shows through), but this idea in genius! I love your phone book! Some of the pages are works of art, and others are masterboards, waiting to be cut up! Thanks so much for showing!!!!!
Ohh the stock prospectives sound like a crafter dream! I don't know if we have them here in Australia. So happy you will also start a book to use those small scraps too. I find it so satisfying using them up lol. Although, I must admit, I don't feel like it has made much of a dent in my scraps lol. I still have a huge box of them and I am working on 5 journals and now have more scraps from trimming down the pages lol. Wahhhhh it's never ending lol. I might actually use some of the phone book collaged pages to make some envelopes to put some small scraps in to pop in pockets in journals that others can use for clusters and collages! Ohhh! Going to do that right now actually! lol 😄💚
Welcome welcome Denise! Thank you so very much! So happy you're going to try to use up those little scraps aswell lol. I love the phone book now it's full. I've been using it to make envelopes, tags and some little notebook covers. It's so handy to have! 😄💚
Love this Bonny! I wanted to start another art journal and altered book and do more collage and was looking at the opshop but couldn’t find anything so now I’ve picked up two phone books to use. Since I have two, I think I’ll use one for an art journal/altered book and one for collage to cut up to make tags, etc.
Hi hi Juni! Oh my gosh I just love it so much now its full! lol. I started to use the pages to make envelopes, notebooks and tags. I've just been adding butterflies or stamps etc as I need. It's so handy to have! I have a few more kooky paper projects to show as soon as I can get back to filming.lol. Thanks for stopping by! Looking forward to seeing yours. I'm sure your scraps are much prettier than mine lol 😊💙💚
This is so much fun! I have started something kind of like this. I took an old magazine and cut it in half horizontally (I forget why I decided I wanted it smaller, but I did). I pulled out every fourth or fifth page to reduce the bulk and then collaged in scraps I had. I didn't finish it though... not sure where I put it... I guess it will pop up one day, when I am looking for something else. We don't get phone books anymore, but I do have one old one. I hadn't thought to use it like this. I like to rip pages out and collage them because they are so thin and go on to other things so easily. Anyway, your book is delightful. If you have "issues," then I must have the same ones myself, lol.
It's so funny to see that so many of us do this! And how wonderful that so many people are trying to use up those little scraps! Hehe Theresa don't worry, it will pop up one day when you are least expecting it lol. Like my phone book. It was missing for many months. Someone asked me "how do you lose a phone book"?. I told them that I even lost my desk a few times! hahaha 😂💚
Thanks so much! I just have to use up those little paper scraps, and I also have a little pile of phone books so need to get those used up aswell lol 😄💚
Haha yeh my phone book kept getting forgotten aswell. It kept getting buried under all the junk on my desk lol. I remember years ago we used to use the giant hone books as computer monitor stands; back when we had the giant old green screen monitors lol. Phone books were giant back then aswell, now they are so skinny! 😀💚
Thank you so much! It took a bit of discipline for me to get into the habit of gluing the scraps in at the end of each day, but once I started it, I just loved watching the book fill up lol. 😄🩵💙
Thank you Diane! I always try to use up every little scrap of paper and this has at least helped me keep my desk a little cleaner lol. I've been using the pages to make little notebook covers , tags and journal cards. I love having the phone book sitting there ready to tear pages out of to use whenever I want lol 😄💚
Thank you so much Susan! Well I thought it was a new idea but turns out lots of other people do this too with magazines and junk mail etc. So happy that so many of us try to use up those little scraps of paper. They are never ending lol. This has come in handy though; I love having it ready to just use a page whenever I want. I made some little envelopes and notebooks with some of the pages so far. I need to film to show you all how I am using it! 😄💚
This is such a good idea as we’ve just been delivered the new yellow pages in the last few days. I’ll be using this idea for sure. Thanks for sharing 🙏❤️
Thank you Yelena! I had a few phone books put away and I did use one to make paper ruffles a while back, but struggled to find uses for them as the pages are so thin. I think this is how the scrap book came about lol. A few people on FB said they use magazines or junk mail the same way. I'm glad so many people are trying to use up those tiny scraps! 😊💚
Hehe thanks Shelly! Lucky it's not one of those GIANT phone books that they used to have years ago lol. This one is just a local area one which is much thinner. Would ahve taken me a decade to fill one of the giant books, and I'd still probably have been drowning in little scraps lol 😂💚
Thank you so much Sherry! I absolutely love Wendy's channel. She's one of my favourites on UA-cam. A true junker! I was delighted to see her gluing tiny paper scraps into a book because I am just as bad saving all those tiny scraps lol. I love finding uses for them aswell😆💚
Yep, for sure. They will be one of those items in 20 years that people are selling on Ebay as vintage for ridiculous prices lol. Alas, us junk journallers will be hunting them down by then lol. Hahaha someone asked me, "how do you lose a phone book?". I told her, "hey, I lost a desk a few times too!" lol. 😂💚
Love this and my first thought was that this seemed totally reasonable and logical for a paper crafter. Is that wrong? haha :) (I may or may not have saved a few thinner phone books through the years...for a project I didn't yet know about... ahem. Thanks!
Hahahaha I am glad it seems totally reasonable and logical for you too lol. I can't even tell you how much I love it now it's full lol. Oh gosh imagine if we had some of those GIANT phone books that they used to make? That would be so awesome filled! Would probably take us a decade to fill though lol 😂💚

Hi Hi Sassafras And Scraps! Thanks for stopping by! I mostly used glue sticks, but sometimes I did use PVA, fabric glue and gel medium; just depending on what I was working on at the time. The phone book pages are really thin, so the PVA and other wet glues tend to make the thin pages ripple so I prefer the finish with the glue sticks 😊💚
Hi Birdie!! I did this over the course of a year or so. At the end of each day or project, I would glue in whatever scraps I had on my desk, and I would just use whatever glue I happened to be using for that project at the time. So some pages are PVA glue, some are glue stick, some acetone based glue. Rarely gel medium because it's so expensive in Australia that I only use it for actual projects lol. Most I'd say is glue stick, then PVA, then acetone based glue 😊💚💚
Hahaha I just wish I had one of those GIANT phone books. This is just a little local one wish is much thinner. Well, the sCrap box is still overflowing Jamesy lol. I don't know how I can ever get it back down to a size to keep scraps in the tiny box I had a few years ago lol. 😂💚
@bonny and Clive I'm sure we were all started to worry! Glad everything is OK! I was like where is my biggest supporter!? Haha but seriously glad you are well! Xoxo

Lots of scraps found homes. 🙃
Love&hugs

Hi hi Julie! Yeh, I am sure we won't have them much longer either. One day phone books will be a thing of the past and become one of those coveted pieces of ephemera that crafters and junk journallers hunt down lol.

Ohhh!
This is absolutely fabulous! What type (s) of glue did you use?
Hi Hi Sassafras And Scraps! Thanks for stopping by! I mostly used glue sticks, but sometimes I did use PVA, fabric glue and gel medium; just depending on what I was working on at the time. The phone book pages are really thin, so the PVA and other wet glues tend to make the thin pages ripple so I prefer the finish with the glue sticks 😊💚
@@BonnyAndClive Thank you for getting back with me! Definitely going to try this!

I also made an 11 metre junk paper roll (that's 12 yards!) lol. Just uploaded the video ua-cam.com/video/2VD0M1M3ggA/v-deo.html
Did you use glue stick or matte gel medium?
Omg, of course you would collage an entire phone book. I mean with all you had in the crap box, i suppose that's a more tidy solution.
Hahaha I just wish I had one of those GIANT phone books. This is just a little local one wish is much thinner. Well, the sCrap box is still overflowing Jamesy lol. I don't know how I can ever get it back down to a size to keep scraps in the tiny box I had a few years ago lol. 😂💚
