quadcopter 101 just wanna ask. does installing gimbals on your cam remove the water effect on the video? im a photographer and i have a coming video shoot which requires aerial videos, and i know nothing about drones. thanks a lot men like your videos
Quadcopter 101 Help! Mine barely flew at all ,now wont do anything. Last time the motors ran, she was just sitting on the ground running and they wouldn't shut off. It finally just flipped over and stopped, So now, all it does when connecting the battery is, motors turn a fraction of a turn, loud beep, switch on, fast blinking lights, followed by slow blink. However yesterday when i plugged it in i had fast blink, so i calibrated again. Is my transmitter bad?
You may have a bad one like mine is. I'm in process of getting it replaced by the online store I got it from. They are helpful so far. I'm learning that the X16 is a great idea if you got a good one. Seems to have a high percentage of lemons.
Certainly seems to have the potential to be a reasonable quad. Be interesting to see a follow up to see if the jello vanishes or gets better at least with balanced props & a modified camera mount.
PerthWestOZ RC help! Mine flew for few minutes, now wont do anything. I cant get the motors to run anymore. Last time she ran she was sitting on the ground, motors running, and I couldn't get them to stop. I have no control. Any ideas?
This seems like a really good buy for anyone starting out. At this price, it looks like It's better VFM than a DJI for a beginner. Return to home GPS makes it relatively safe and 13 minutes gives people plenty of time to learn to fly. Decent range too! As always a fun video. Thanks, PW :)
You might want to note that as soon as you connect the battery, the ESC's and motors are powered. Only the FC board is disconnected until you turn the quadcopter's power switch to the ON position. The longer you leave the battery connected without actually turning the quad on and flying, the less battery you will have left to fly with.
It uses the original Phantom 1 propellers! On the same subject, a prop balancer appears to be a must buy item with this bird. As it stands this quad has the same features that the P1 had, it seems to be a good buy for a newcomer to photography quad flying.
The camera does not come with this quadcopter. As discussed in the video, I attached a MJX Bugs 3 camera mount, and inserted my SJCam SJ6 Legend into it.
Oh I see :), I recently bought the SJCAM S6 Legend and really like it for doing my drone reviews. I've noticed you have used it a few times. Overall what are you're thoughts on the SJ6?
I"ve been waiting for a good review of the model for a while. Unfortunately...I guess...I went ahead and purchased a Phantom 3 advanced just a few days ago. I think the Bayang x16 GPS would have done what I needed for 1/4th the price. Anyway, great review. Thanks!
also i noticed you were a bit worried taking it out far after flying for a while..dont worry..it has a geofencing feature that wont let it fly far when in LVC :) it will stop and even fly back by itself to a hover, mine does anyways
I thought geofencing was something enforced by not allowing the quad to fly in specific areas or beyond a specific range by either limiting the distance from the launch point or set areas according to GPS coordinates. I know mine will fly as far or as high as I want it to, as long as it has good signal. When signal is lost, then it goes into RTH mode.
Quadcopter 101 - Thanks for all the great reviews you do! I watched your videos on this Cheerson CX-20 and the Bayangtoys X16 GPS, in your opinion which one flies better and has the better features? You make flying so easy and I hope you can share your thoughts about these two comparable quads. Thank you, Richard
Hello Q101, i've been into brushed drones and now i am ready to buy my first brushless drone, do you recommend me to buy this bayangtoys x16 or the cheerson CX-20? My budget is about 250 USD and i am really been thinking it so much. i would appreaciate your help, thanks
I have several brushless quads, including this one. In my humble opinion, this one isn't stable enough to give you a true feel of how good GPS can be. I own two XK Detect X380's. To me, for the money, they're the best 'starter' for GPS. You can get them (bare bones) for $250 or less, depending on how long you want to wait for delivery.
I have the GPS version of this quadcopter. Does anyone know if there is a GEO fence built into this model? I've done antenna mods on both the radio controller and the quad internal receiver similar to what folks have done on the Syma X8 and can't seem to get any further than 430 meters before RTH kicks in. Mod free I was getting out to about 300 meters. I've tried different antenna types along with the "Wind Sail" foil attachment. I live on the outer limits of a small town with a large farm field to the west where I can do a long range test and I don't think interference is an issue. It almost seems locked down to me. I was hoping to achieve the 1k plus that the Syma X8 are able to achieve with antenna mods. This is a great quad, with Altitude Hold, RTH, Low battery safety, etc. makes it easy and safe to fly. The RTH on mine will usually land within a few meters or less from where I took off, truly an amazing quad for the price, love it.
Hello Quadcopter 101I recently buy this upgrade version of bayangtoys X16 GPS with altitude holds, auto return and headless modes. The GPS locks fine after calibration but for some reasons after take off the quad will start heading forward It won't hovering even when I want to do the manual landing and when I press the Auto return button it's doesn't dip..dip.. like yours the Quad won't return, alt hold won't work and when I press the GPS button off it won't change the GPS light will stay still solid. What I am doing Wrong? Any advice would greatly be appreciated
Hey dude , nice Video , i really like this quadcopter . Sady it doesnt have follow me but i think i will buy it as my first drone . but 1 question : why is video shaking whole time ? because of the heat ?
Not bad ... pretty good for $165. Nice that it returns to home on low battery, making battery telemetry a moot point. Next thing you need to test is to fly it out of range and see if it will a) stop, or b) return to home. 300 yards isn't that far .. I can get that with my Syma X8 TX with external antenna. Either the camera mount isn't very good, or the props are out of balance, as there was considerable Jello in the video. I think I watched the std. X16 demoed on another channel where they installed a 3D gimbal with the camera, which gave good video performance. That would drain the battery pretty quickly however. The compass calibration is a bit strange, but it did lock on pretty fast, even if it lost GPS lock a few times during the flight. Another thing you didn't try was to see how fast it will fly in altitude hold only with high rates .. that should give it its fastest speed. Good entry level GPS quad .. probably better than the Hubsan H502E, but then, that one is brushed, smaller and a lot cheaper. It will be interesting to see if they come out with an app for this for those other features .. or a FW update. Thanks for the review. Cheers.
Bill Somrak it does return to home when out of range and if tx is turned off.. Also has a geofencing feature when in lvc it won't let you fly far.. Gps rth landing is near spot on accurate.. I've had one for over a month now.. Love flying it.. Also love flying my hubsan H502E.. Both great entry level GPS quads
Bill Somrak my user manual says 1km range . I show that in my unboxing video. 300m is what sellers listing's always show as the very first version had.. I just think they are lazy and copy paste specs.. 300m is incorrect
@PerthWestOZ RC Thanks for all the additional info ... very much appreciated. Have you found that your X16 loses GPS lock on occasion or becomes a little unstable after fast flight (as experienced by Q101 in his flight) ? As I said, I think its a good value for the price .. a nice entry level GPS quad. Cheers.
Just had my maiden flight with my new X16, all went well.It flies well but I don't think it's as good as the Twister Quattro X, which is what I used to have. I thought it was a bit slow in YAW.Good copter though, suppose I will just have to get another Quattro X.
Hi QC101, a question from a newbie: Why do all these Chinese drone videos have that "liquid" effect on the recorded videos? Is it something to do with the quality of the cameras that are cheap? They can't handle interference from the drone? Does it affect any kind of camera? or is it something else? I would like to get started on drones, but frankly it seems that unless you spend thousands, the video quality on most is really crappy....
Thanks for the review and your dedication to quadcopters. Just getting into the hobby myself. I just purchased the Bayangtoys X16 GPS from Gearbest with the flash sale. Couldn't seem to find a spare battery on their website. Can someone provide me with a link for purchasing one as this is all new to me.
For the price of this at $165 you can get a 450 size Quadcopter Hobby grade with GPS, brushless motors, good quality ESC's, FPV camera & 5.8ghz video transmitter, super strong nylon fiber arms & carbon fiber frame with color choice, a programmable flight controller, battery lipo, landing legs, large props & extra set, and a good quality transmitter. All in a BNF kit you make yourself. Around the same price.
You could build a decent 5 inch racing quad for $165 but definitely not a 550 GPS quad where parts are bigger and more complex. You'll have to cheap out on A LOT of parts for that to be possible and that isn't good news if you plan on carrying expensive camera gear.
I'll correct that, you can get a good quality 450 size build & fly kit for around the price of this Bayangtoys. But the benefit of this quad is it is ready to fly RTF ! Good price for RTF & great performance too.. Good video as always quadcopter 101. Thanks again.
i watch your videos when ever im looking at a drone i want to buy when i dont want to build one.. your videos make my choice easy... thanks... where do you put all the drones you have i imagine your home is filled with all kinds of kool drones...
i'm looking for a drone to carry my gopro. The Bugs 3 looks so stable and smooth, but the x16 have gps and altitude hold. altought, the x16 in most youtube videos have more jello. Wich one do you recommend? its possible to get smooth video with an anti-vibration mount and prop ballancing in the x16? dont have money to buy an ginbal yet. tnx
Got mine today, just charging it now.I got the one with black motors, but it deosn't say GPS on the Gps tower, so is it GPS or what? will try it soon, should be a beast!!! Rob
WARNING TO BEGINNERS: tighten the motor nuts as much as possible when putting on the props. One flew off on my first flight, and it crashed. I took it apart and repaired everything. Flies great, especially for a $127 drone. But wish one of the unboxing videos had told me about tightening the motor nuts.
I flew mine when I first got it and it took a little while to get it to activate. Once it did it flew great. I broke it out today and I can't seem to get it to start up.
RTH. In fact, in congested areas, it will go into RTH pretty quickly due to a lot of interference. I've opened up the controller to look at possibly changing out the transmitter antenna. This antenna is the type that has mid-load coils. So, I'm not real comfortable with changing it. Until I see where someone else has done it successfully. On another note, when it does automatically go into RTH, you can override that by pushing the RTH button twice, about two seconds apart. Trying to override by simply pushing the sticks doesn't work like it does on some quads. You can control it. But, you will be fighting the RTH command all the way.
The following would probably be safest to fly in Mexico City ua-cam.com/video/zgVcNc05RUc/v-deo.html It's not going to hurt anybody if it falls from the sky.
Very few. Most get donated to the local schools as I really don't have storage space. Some of the older kids are getting very good at flying, so I have also been donating racers and GPS camera birds. I still have the Phantom 4 of course as I need to do several more reviews to show off all its features. But the ones that I kept for myself might surprise you. For example, I held onto all the Hubsan H500 series (501s and 502s) that were sent me. I like them as they're small unobtrusive GPS quadcopters, with good cameras that you can fly most anywhere without being hassled.
Quadcopter 101 i agree with you on the Hubsan H502e Q101, ive had mine about a month and absolutely love flying it, done a few range tests and mods as well..very recently..feel free to check them out if you have a spare moment..great quad..flyin fpv with it atm.. and your reviews and flights on it helped me decide to buy one..thanks for your great videos ☺👍
Quadcopter 101 I got an H502s after your review! It's in for repairs after a failed stunt broke the camera module though. That thing is rugged and forgiving otherwise. You can do manual flips with the H502S. Go into your setup menu (right stick down, push left stick) and enable Manual. This will disable Altitude Hold when you turn off GPS. From here you can run up power, and flick the sticks to manual flip it. Be careful though, that's how I crashed mine...
Hi what You mean "upgraded version" ? You mean x16 with added GPS or it is next GPS version of this quad ?? It's very important for me if someone knows that please answear me. Thanks :)
If you are new to quadcopters, would recommend skipping this one until you are proficient in flying. This one can be dangerous in the hands of a new pilot.
Nope. I was trying to descend to the blue landing pad. All of a sudden it started to climb on its own, then moved overhead to the last point that it took off from, then descended and landed there.
Yes, I soldered a JST plug onto the main battery connector points to run the gimbal from. With the correct wiring harness, you can power the gimbal, camera and FPV transmitter from that point. Camera tilt, maybe not so much. You'd have to add another control nob to your controller and add a separate transmitter for the gimbal and additional circuits and wiring to the quad.
HOLA BUENOS DIAS TENGO UN PROBLEMA CON MI BAYANGTOYS X16 GPS ESTA NUEVO PERO PRENDO EL DRON Y LUEGO EL MANDO Y JAMAS DEJAN DE TITILEAR LAS LUNES NO COGE SEÑAL CON EL CONTROL ,DEJA
Yep, way back in May that happened www.google.com/search?q=faa+drone+registration+unlawful&oq=faa+drone+registration+unlawful No need to register anymore. And if you did register, you can get your $5 back.
i think the x16 is the best bang for the buck for a full size rtf gps quad... as i said when i was into quads 5 years or so ago.. quads like x16 was over $400 usd...and from the reviews everyone seems to like it...we all know reliability is most important with flying rc toys...i have heard expensive quads messing up and crashing or just flying away...i rather have a $125 quad sail away then a $600 to $1000 one...
I'm struggling with something.. why do these companies even release these quads if they know there is so much jello, and the props will need balancing right out of the box? ANY video of a quad you upload with these problems is immediately stuck off my wish list. I do realize these are toy grade but seriously, how is this a thing?
There is really no way in the manufacturing process to make sure each prop is balanced. The jello on this quad could be fixed with a cheap torsion camera mount, the kind that uses the rubber isolation balls. The mount he is using now is pretty terrible.
burnstudios the Mount he's using is off the bugs 3, the x16 gps camera mount has dampening balls, and Ive used those but now I have a brushless 2d gimbal on it, and takes perfect video now
I've added a Walkera G-2D gimbal and SJ4000 action camera to my X16. In the RCGroups X16 owners thread, several of us have noticed that our quad has this 'toilet bowl swirl' thing going on. Has anyone else run into this? If so, has anyone found a remedy? In fact, I can tell from the video, this one is doing the same thing.
Another cause of TBE is flying too fast for the GPS to keep up. This especially can occur with single GPS quadcopters. In high speed flight, the quadcopter can actually get ahead of the GPS position. The TBE is the quadcopter trying to compensate for the increasing GPS error. If this occurs while flying in forward flight, try slowing down or hovering until the TBE goes away.
I've done the complete calibration multiple times, with still the same effect, even when hovering. I really believe that the issue is not with the compass (which maintains heading) or with GPS module (the quads following instructions to change it's position relative to the satellites), but with the gyros (which maintain your 6 axis stability). My fear is that either the gyros are not sensitive enough, or the FC board doesn't sample the gyros frequently enough to properly control the motors and maintain equilibrium.

Nice Q101 I've had mine for over a month now, great quad.. Flagship of the X16

PerthWestOZ RC does it return to home if the battery is low/
This seems like a really good buy for anyone starting out. At this price, it looks like It's better VFM than a DJI for a beginner.
Return to home GPS makes it relatively safe and 13 minutes gives people plenty of time to learn to fly. Decent range too!
As always a fun video.

All of that including function and calibration is exactly the same as my Bayang X21. Just black. And decisively better range as Pete demonstrated.
You might want to note that as soon as you connect the battery, the ESC's and motors are powered. Only the FC board is disconnected until you turn the quadcopter's power switch to the ON position. Hello !Do you tried to use X21 remote on x16?" I'm curious if it works.
It uses the original Phantom 1 propellers!
On the same subject, a prop balancer appears to be a must buy item with this bird.
As it stands this quad has the same features that the P1 had, it seems to be a good buy for a newcomer to photography quad flying.
Hi Quadcopter 101, love watching your reviews. Great battery life and video quality on this drone, seems good value for the money.

Wow you almost flipped me into hippy mod with that shirt lol god I miss being a hippy. Great review as usual 101
Quadcopter 101. thanks for your reply. I'm referring between the bayangtoys x16 altitude hold or the GPS model. Regards
Get the GPS. It also has altitude hold in conjunction with GPS position hold. Thus it's more reliable to fly.
Quadcopter 101 one more time, thanks for your advice. I just purchased the x16 GPS!!!

It's video jello caused by a combination of a cheap CMOS camera with propeller vibrations. Better cameras and propeller balancing reduces this effect.
I bought this for my son and was wanting cheaper alternatives to stock battery. Do you know of anything?
I noticed that a lot of people say this drone has 3 speeds. I only seem to get 2. Am I missing something?
Thanks for the review and your dedication to quadcopters. Just getting into the hobby myself.

Will this quad RTH with loss of signal? Or does it just land?
RTH. I need to demonstrate that in a follow on flight.
But, you will be fighting the RTH command all the way.
what do you recommend getting? This or the Cheerson CX20? Thanks.
Crossbreed between this one and wltoys q696 would be very nice...... Gps, brushless, 5.8ghz fpv, what more do you need? 😉
Hi I need some good fpv googles for my phantom 3 professional any suggestions under or a little higher than 100
Thanks for the informative review 👍
Bayangtoys X16 and MJX Bugs 2. which one you recommend sir?
IMO the Bugs 2 seems to be more fun to fly. It also has more accurate GPS/GLONASS system. However, it's not a GoPro lifter like the X16.
Thanks sir. so is it impossible to lift a gopro?. I plan to put a gopro on Bugs 2 as stock cam is not good enough for me.
love you! always entertaining!
Quadcopter 101, which version is safer to fly in a big city as Mexico City altitude hold or GPS version. It's like flying in New York City.
The following would probably be safest to fly in Mexico City ua-cam.com/video/zgVcNc05RUc/v-deo.html
It's not going to hurt anybody if it falls from the sky.
Quadcopter 101 do you actually keep any of your Quadcopter's? And do you have any favorites?
How do you stop the jello with this drone
my syma x8hw fpv and sd recording is very very laggy and ghosting
please help me
Hi what You mean "upgraded version" ? You mean x16 with added GPS or it is next GPS version of this quad ?? It's very important for me if someone knows that please answear me. Thanks :)
+WheelieHolic X16 with GPS. Not next GPS. It's upgraded in that there also exists cheaper non-GPS versions of the X16.
Quadcopter 101 thanks a lot :-)
toilet bowl lol nice idk why i haven't heard that before . nice video :)
when you where flying fast does it maintain same altitude??? can you use headless mode also? thanks
If you are new to quadcopters, would recommend skipping this one until you are proficient in flying. This one can be dangerous in the hands of a new pilot.
I don't think that was RTH i think it just auto lands at low battery.
Nope. I was trying to descend to the blue landing pad. All of a sudden it started to climb on its own, then moved overhead to the last point that it took off from, then descended and landed there.
O that's cool then!
BAYANGTOYS X21 review?!?!?!?!
pleaseeee
Does compass need calibration before each flight after charge?
Not really. But it's a good idea to do such.
Thank you for this info. 👍😎
Are there any external possibilities for plugging in a walkera g2d gimbal on this quad? Power, cam tilt and roll control etc....
Here is what some people have done with theirs ua-cam.com/users/results?search_query=bayangtoys+x16+gimbal
Mikel Berry thanks for the information
What is the cause of the ground rippling effect of the video ?
Combination of propeller vibrations with a cheap CMOS camera. It can be reduced through propeller balancing.
Will it return back if it will lost signal from transmitter ?
Yes, the upgraded GPS version will. The non-GPS X16's will not.
I wish BsyangToys's manual was as good as their product. Aye?? Dan
Can you link the camera that you use? Every time i type it in it brings up the Samsung phone.
The camera on the quadcopter was this amzn.to/2rM2ZPp
The camera on my hat that filmed this episode was this amzn.to/2rLPizP
Thanks alot!
How often should GPS drones be calibrated?
Every pre-flight?
No, normally once for your location, or if you notice any toilet bowl effect movement while in hover.
Can you make a video about flytec t18?
What is the range on this quad ?
You know where I can get some male battery banana connectors. I have some extra batteries for my X16 but need to change the connectors.
don ashfield Are you trying to use nonstock batteries?
No...same batteries but different connectors. I ordered and received the right connectors and put them on.
I've been told that the FAA registration has been cancelled. Is that the true scoop??
Yep, way back in May that happened www.google.com/search?q=faa+drone+registration+unlawful&oq=faa+drone+registration+unlawful
No need to register anymore. And if you did register, you can get your $5 back.
Is the s70w better or this one
did you charge the batt. new out of the box..or fly it as the batt came first?
First flight, out of the box, as is.
o.k. thanks.
hi q101 bugs b2w or bayangtoys x16 what is better?
I like the B2W
plz try JY018 foldable drone.. thanks
On sale at Gearbest for $127 flash sale so hurry. As of June/25/2017.😀
The sale ends on the 29th. If you've been looking for one, it is a good deal. Here's the link goo.gl/noxTBQ
i think the x16 is the best bang for the buck for a full size rtf gps quad... as i said when i was into quads 5 years or so ago.. quads like x16 was over $400 usd...and from the reviews everyone seems to like it...we all know reliability is most important with flying rc toys...i have heard expensive quads messing up and crashing or just flying away...i rather have a $125 quad sail away then a $600 to $1000 one...
Good Job Thanks
can you make another quad giveaway?!?
and btw nice review
vashon100 what if if he donates it to us 😂
for this price range, it's landed pretty close. so you didn't have to spend hundreds!
WARNING DO NOT BUY. ITS A PIECE OF JUNK. DO NOT BUY FROM GEARWORST. THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF. SAVE YOUR MONEY.
Please explain why? Because I'm panning to buy this one from Gear best..
Nasty jello. That's a shame
good
I'm struggling with something.. why do these companies even release these quads if they know there is so much jello, and the props will need balancing right out of the box? ANY video of a quad you upload with these problems is immediately stuck off my wish list. I do realize these are toy grade but seriously, how is this a thing?
Kenji Urban brushless gimbal gets rid of that.. Not a big deal really
Can you recommend one? (Brushless gimbal?)
There is really no way in the manufacturing process to make sure each prop is balanced. The jello on this quad could be fixed with a cheap torsion camera mount, the kind that uses the rubber isolation balls. The mount he is using now is pretty terrible.
burnstudios the Mount he's using is off the bugs 3, the x16 gps camera mount has dampening balls, and Ive used those but now I have a brushless 2d gimbal on it, and takes perfect video now
Can you link me a good torsion mount? :)
Yes, toilet bowl effect is almost always caused by poor compass calibration. See the above video starting at 5:43 to see how.

😊😙😙
Worst frickin jello I've ever seen
