Pysanky Wax Egg Decorating | Easter Crafts | Melted Crayons | Ukraine Egg Art

Hello and thank you so much for checking out this video today. I hope you’re having a great week!
First and foremost I must thank my wonderful friend, Vilma, who taught me this #egg #wax #decorating technique including the whole set up of the can and candle etc. It’s an addictive #craft I whip out every year since being shown how to do it, but for Vilma, she’s been doing this since she was a child.
An egg decorated in this style is called a #pysanka and the craft originated in Ukraine 💙💛. My friend Vilma is from Lithuania but the craft is also popular in many Eastern European countries, hence why she grew up with it.
I will say it’s a little tricky to get the hang of at the start. When I first had a go, I nearly gave up after a few eggs because they looked terrible, but it just takes a bit of practice and patience. Once you get it, it’s one of the most relaxing, therapeutic crafts out there. The key is to make sure the wax gets really hot but to also make sure the pin head gets really hot too. If the wax and pin are too cool then the wax hardens too quickly and you won’t get a nice clean line.

We did this at church yesterday but with the real tools. This seems so much easier and cheaper, especially since we don't have a kistka, so I appreciate this idea.
