I read Invisible Women a few years ago and it was really important! Great list!

All those books sound so interesting. Invisible Women have been on my radar for a while, but I have a few feminist books on my bookshelves already that I should get to first ^^'
I haven't read her latest works, but Mona Chollet is a brilliant author too - I think most of her books have been translated into English, in case you want to check her books out.

all about love sounds really interesting. I've had Invisible Women on my want to read for a while and just hearing you talk about it makes me so mad, even though I already knew some of it. The medicine and hormones aspect 🤯 I always feel like it's such an "inconvience" to have to make adjustments for women, as if they aren't half of the population and should have been considered in the first place. Just imagine if it were the other way around and men constantly had to fit into things that were designed for women. We had those really low kitchen counters where I grew up, since they were made for women... They were then heightened, so my dad wouldn't break his back cooking... which was good. It's just so odd.
I've also read about the point that Linda Scott made, I think in a book called Poverty Dynamics, and it was talked about how poverty can be helped by "letting" women be in charge of the household finances, on a small and large scale. And yes, a money argument is always good to have up your sleeve, when nothing else seems to stick!
When is "Difficult Men" coming out? 🤔

Yeah, Invisible Women was so eye opening, but at the same time there are so many parts where I was like "oh, now I understand why I've felt this way before." 🙄
Linda Scott's book was really interesting, and in addition to seeing how women spent money it was also enlightening to see how men spent money, which was not so generous . . . However, I do wonder how much of this is due to socialisation, so it would be interesting to see similar research that tries to control for that. The insights are still valuable in that you're connecting gendered behaviour to outcomes, but it probably goes deeper than just "women are better than men at these things", which is perhaps a bit reductionist.
"Difficult Men" is just called "history" and I don't think people always shy away from the ways in which men of history were horrible, but it seems we're much more willing to celebrate and make excuses for them 😐

@@TheKatBite Exactly. Yes, I think so too. I think that whoever is home to see the children hungry everyday while the other one is away caring about themselves is going to be a bit more group-oriented.
Yes, completely agree. I also think it has to do with expectations and betrayal of trust. I've been thinking about it in other cases lately. Kind of like how you would expect crimes from a criminal, but when it's a police officer, it seems so much worse.

Definitely agree about the expectations. It's like antiheroes in media. If they do something bad, we expect it, and it's less egregious than if a regular hero does something bad.

I really love you going through all of these recs, and also into specific details as to which book has which points that stands out. From your list, the books that really stand out to be is The Right to S. (trying not to get sent to YT jail because that happens too much LOL) & Invisible Women. I love seeing the statistics, and data and how that would relate (or not) to us. I can definitely see how things were designed and tested mostly on men and as a result, females often get missed in safety features. I remember there's one data point I saw a long time ago, is that seat belt were designed with maximum safety for specific heights. The average women is about 1-2" shorter than the specific height safety! TLDR, data relating to how the world is probably inherently sexist is an interesting fact! Definitely WILL pick this book up.
Also the way you articulate all of the synopsis of the book is amazing 😩🧡 I feel like I got such good ideas of all the books and what I can expect going into it

Invisible Women is such a good read but also so frustrating and maddening. All About Love is on my 40 Before 40 list and I'm really looking forward to getting to it. The Cost of Sexism sounds really good! Thanks for all the recommendations.

Yeah, Invisible Women was incredibly impactful. I think it was my gateway book to a lot of non-fiction books centring women.

A few of my fav feminist fiction books
    Historical
-The Mercies by Kiran Millwood Hargrave
-Snowflowet and the Secret Fan by Lisa See
    Dystopia
-The Core of the Sun by Johanna Sinisalo
    Fantasy
-Tender Morsels by Margo Lanagan (check TWs)
-She Would be King by Wayétu Moore
I have read "A Vidication of the Rights of Women" by Mary Wolstonecraft Shelley, and we still have the same problems she discussed in 1794. Things have changed and some of it no longer applies, but a lot of it higlights the same repackaged sytemic issues.
"Witchcraft" by Marion Gibson and "The Barbazon: the hotel that set women free" by Paulina Bren are my next two nonfics.

I haven’t read this book yet but it was recommended to me by a friend the subject matter is very interesting and important “Sexy But Psycho” by Jessica Taylor. Basically about how patriarchy monopolises women’s trauma against them.
