The guitar was completely fine. We all know Mitski leans towards experimental and I'm sure that was intentional. Almost like a Jonny Greenwood-type of thing
At first I was listening and looking at the comments. Wondering what you guys were talking about with the guitar disruption and I now just got to it. Wow.
Do people blaming the guitarist realize that Mitski herself composed this song and its live version, and it continued to be performed this way for two years with no complaints? The issue is that it's too loud, not that it shouldn't be performed like that.
@Patrick Hoe (Ironically) Mitski's lead guitarist, Patrick Hyland (guy in white), has been producing Mitski's albums ever since her second studio album (by the release of this video, she's had four out). He's been playing the guitar and other instruments along with general producing of her studio songs for a reaaaaally long time and he is part of the magic you hear in the studio releases. He knows what the Mitski sound sounds like, and Mitski respects that. The sound engineers clearly just made him stand out too much.
Some of you are very negative towards the guitarist. I understand you would like to hear it EXACTLY like it is off the album but there’s nothing fun in that after you’ve played it 100,000 times. Let him have a break, it’s not like he only produced her last four albums. He has full authority to bust out random guitar shit and effects if he wants too.
She’s a solo artist so that fact that it is overbearing to the point that it disrupts her is kind of annoying. I personally think most of it is the fault of whoever mixed the audio, but the unnecessary riffs where his fault and honestly just sucked.
0:15 okay nice 0:40 getting a little hard to hear Mitski over that guitar but still nice 1:16 WHAt the hell hell was 𝕥𝕙𝕒𝕥 1:55 idek whats going on now 2:13 R....R2-D2..?.??
This is so amazing! Mitski's voice is so pure and unique. Makes me sad to see so many negative comments about her. C'mon guys, keep your rude thoughts to yourself please.
I don't know what to do without you I don't know where to put my hands I've been trying to lay my head down But I'm writing this at 3am I don't need the world to see That I've been the best I can be, but I don't think I could stand to be Where you don't see me On sunny days I go out walking I end up on a tree-lined street I look up at the gaps of sunlight I miss you more than anything I don't need the world to see That I've been the best I can be, but I don't think I could stand to be Where you don't see me And autumn comes when you're not yet done With the summer passing by, but I don't think I could stand to be Where you don't see me
So happy to wake up to this in my sub box!! Still remember when I first saw her on tiny desk. At first I was all ehh about her but I kept listening over and over and now she's one of my favs
I think that this live performance was fantastic. It really gave a new energy to the song from kinda depressing and mellow to Power DEPRESSION. Of course a tad distracting with the guitar, but i think that is part of it. Also if you really love a song, i think it would be awesome to have many diffrent versions of the song that was even made by the original creators. Love from here and GOD SPEED.
I don’t mind the guitarist at all, in fact I’m grooving on his creativity. The only part that bugged me was the Star Wars sound effects at 1:15, and I’m not even sure what you call the guy who manipulates the soundboard.
I mean...okay the guitar playing probably isn’t the best for this song, but Mitski knows what the guitarist is doing. They were touring at this point so it’s not like she didn’t know what he was going to do. I imagine she would say something if she didn’t want that
Bisma Yuan Anggara he is, people complaining here don’t know anything about music, about punk music in particular, they found out about this song because of a kid show so they must be used to simple, repetitive kids music lol
Daniela Wfs that’s called dynamics, the fact that the voice has to be louder than any other instrument is an illusion created by commercial music standards; beautiful music often plays with dynamic levels, by making some instrument louder than some other at some point, the difference creates the information
This is the way they rehearsed it. Playing live is not a good time to try new ideas. I think it sounds good. The guitarist could turn down his flange a little. The effect killed some of his notes on the trills
I dont know what are people complaining about, greenwood makes that kind of stuff with his guitar everytime and i don't see anyone saying that sucks xd
I disagree. This song is meant to sound sullen and melancholic. The unnecessary choices that the guitarist and audio engineer made this performance (I mean come on, the guy lowered her volume at the PEAK of the 2nd chorus, that's just a stupid choice)
I don't understand why you guys criticize the guitarist and comparing which is better. Its actually great that this person followed the heart of rock "To break the rules"
Lol people who don’t understand shit about music complaining about the guitarist. Go listen to some kids music if you are scared of sounds that artists would use. Also those addressing kexp sound engineers, they are literally among the best out there, you would never be able to mix any combination of instrument with this level of detail.
the guitar is fine. it doesnt exactly match the style at some points but he does have talent just not for this specific genre also, knowing mitski she probably meant for him to do this so stop sending hate to the poor guy
The drummer was amazing, mitski was great, but that session guitarist was shitty. First he was too loud second he played shit that interrupted the vocals like messing with effects in the second verse and starting a solo halfway through the second chorus.
he's not a session guitarist lmfao he produced her last 4 albums and has been touring with her for the past 2 years. he's a good guitarist, the mixing in this video is just not good.
the audio engineer rlly said "ok mitski you're about to stand where they can see you but they don't hear you :)"
I genuinely don’t see a problem with this performance I think it sounds great
The guitar was completely fine. We all know Mitski leans towards experimental and I'm sure that was intentional. Almost like a Jonny Greenwood-type of thing
Yeah, what the fuck are these newbs complaining about? It all sounds cool to me.
I think it was the guitar tech he kinda Just threw in that effect when mitski was the quietest
At first I was listening and looking at the comments. Wondering what you guys were talking about with the guitar disruption and I now just got to it. Wow.
Babybabu10 sammmmeeeeeeee
Straightup trash. Dude ruined her performance
Do people blaming the guitarist realize that Mitski herself composed this song and its live version, and it continued to be performed this way for two years with no complaints? The issue is that it's too loud, not that it shouldn't be performed like that.
People blaming guitarist , why's there no flack being thrown towards the audio engineer 😂😂😂😂
TRUUEEE the audio cutting out randomly and if they actually listened to the album 5he guitarist makes sense trust me
Still, the guitarist stood out too much.
I think the only problem with the guitarist was the unnecessary slides
As a rising audio engineer I’m just ashamed. I’m 16 and doing it for a class and I’M better than this fool

I also really blame the sound engineer because... WHAT WAS THAT SECOND VERSE
I love how everyone is just completely doing their own thing lmao
😂😂😂
The most advanced American songwriter.
Stunning voice.
I actually really like the way this was mixed lmao, it was unique
Yeah it's clear all these people hating on the mix are just fans of Mitski and not actual fans of the genres she fuses into her music
0:15 okay nice
0:40 getting a little hard to hear Mitski over that guitar but still nice
1:16 WHAt the hell hell was 𝕥𝕙𝕒𝕥

I got a really weird glitch when I go through them all and got to r2d2 lol
I thought the 1:16 sounded cool
1:16 scared the shit out of me
@@tofubaba1315 if it had been subtle i think i would say the same
OH yeah girl, here to support Mitski
i didn't know the college kid react guy plays drum for mitski
lmaoooo wtf wait is this actually real or are u memeing?
@@lilykil6228 I hope it was real but life sometimes don't even hand you lemon
wow dude pride rock
The guitar sounds just fine, I don't see why everyone's is complaining
This is so amazing! Mitski's voice is so pure and unique. Makes me sad to see so many negative comments about her. C'mon guys, keep your rude thoughts to yourself please.
The negative comments are about the guitarist
Its not about her its about the guitarist
I don't know what to do without you
I don't know where to put my hands
I've been trying to lay my head down
But I'm writing this at 3am
I don't need the world to see
That I've been the best I can be, but
I don't think I could stand to be
Where you don't see me
On sunny days I go out walking
I end up on a tree-lined street
I look up at the gaps of sunlight
I miss you more than anything
I don't need the world to see
That I've been the best I can be, but
I don't think I could stand to be
Where you don't see me
And autumn comes when you're not yet done
With the summer passing by, but
I don't think I could stand to be
Where you don't see me
mitski: a legend
That weird noise in the second verse was made by the audio engineer, okay. Cut the guitarist some slack.
Personally, I really enjoy the way this was mixed.
I feel so comfort with her voice
So happy to wake up to this in my sub box!! Still remember when I first saw her on tiny desk. At first I was all ehh about her but I kept listening over and over and now she's one of my favs
i love you mitski
i absolutely love mitski w these instrumentalists.. the only thing keeping these kexp performances from perfect is the audio mixing
1:17 I started laughing
I think that this live performance was fantastic. It really gave a new energy to the song from kinda depressing and mellow to Power DEPRESSION. Of course a tad distracting with the guitar, but i think that is part of it. Guys, it's a live performance it's alright
I’m crying to hard. I love her so much I can’t even put it into words
RIP my ex- crush. He is not dead, we were just childhood friends that split roads

do people really think electric guitars can only be played by just strumming?
wow zero band chemistry... those two were having a jam session on their own lol
NANAMI TE AMO
yo
te amo mitski.
People complaining about the guitar is so absurd to me, I love the direction the guitarist took here.
she is perfect solo
I love this song so much
Guitar is literally cool
Did they realize they're playing with her because bro they're like pissing on this song
Best song in Adventure Time

Agreed
Oh yeah
Why the Unnecessary guitar slides and weird DJ volume things?
yall, Mitski is the CEO of her own sound and business brand. if she didn't want this performance to sound the way it did, it wouldn't have
I don’t mind the guitarist at all, in fact I’m grooving on his creativity. The only part that bugged me was the Star Wars sound effects at 1:15, and I’m not even sure what you call the guy who manipulates the soundboard.
I LOVE YOU SO MUCH
I love what the audio engineer & guitarist did.

Cool background!
I feel like this was not rehearsed even in the slightest and they just showed up played it for the first time and left
MITSKI ES DIOS
QUE BUENA MUSICA AYDUA
I actually like the weird guitar farts during the 2nd verse. *kinda* fitting. reminds me of geyser.
I think the guitarist is great
Bisma Yuan Anggara he is, people complaining here don’t know anything about music, about punk music in particular, they found out about this song because of a kid show so they must be used to simple, repetitive kids music lol
We talk about how the guitarist didn't let mitski sing :)
Daniela Wfs that’s called dynamics, the fact that the voice has to be louder than any other instrument is an illusion created by commercial music standards; beautiful music often plays with dynamic levels, by making some instrument louder than some other at some point, the difference creates the information

I don´t know why people blame the guitarrist, that´s solo was very nice!
guys the guitar was fine idk what yall r complaining about 😭😭
also that guitar effect happens whenever she performs it live
The guitar was great ,only the mixing problems but still for the style of music that they're playing I'd say it's pretty darn good
Love this song haaaaaaaate this version lol

Death from Adventure Time is a better guitarist compared to this guy
welp death is a multi-instrumentalist
Adventure time forever ❤❤❤❤❤
He's better than everyone .
Death.
He played a bass tho...
he didn’t played a guitar, he also played a bass.
GODDAMN I FUCKING LOVE THIS WOMAN AAAAAAHHHHHH @##_#_*
Thank you Adventure Time
🎸❤️🔥👍
bro this woman literally YELLS into her guitar during class of 2013 lives you still think that shit's not intentional?
Guys the mess ups aren't the guitarist's fault blame the audio mixer
I dont know what are people complaining about, greenwood makes that kind of stuff with his guitar everytime and i don't see anyone saying that sucks xd
Well I don't know what yall are on about this slaps.
Am I the only one who thinks this sounded great? The little distortion reminded me of geyser, and her voice was still very audible
The guitar drowns the vocals out. The vocals need more volume and a little reverb to be more full bodied in contact with them savory licks.
I disagree. This song is meant to sound sullen and melancholic. The unnecessary choices that the guitarist and audio engineer made this performance (I mean come on, the guy lowered her volume at the PEAK of the 2nd chorus, that's just a stupid choice)

It was the audio engineer.
