Why the strange train makeup, manifest-autoracks-manifest-intermodal-manifest-intermodal? Is it all going to NBSR, and therefore doesn't really matter?

At the time, they were still cutting back how many runs a week they were doing. So this was likely several trains combined. Plus NBSR ends up adding 40-60 chip and log cars before heading east, so sometimes trains have to be broken up to fit the weight limits.
