  • We are trying to preserve and honor the Emperor Gotoba's legacy of his influence on Japanese making, by trying to continue traditions that have been passed down to us since 800 years ago. We are crowd funding to raise enough money to order twelve swords from twelve modern master swordsmiths (same number as the original Gobankaji). These swords will represent the cream of Japanese swordsmiths of the Heisei era (1989-2019). The swords will be devoted to Oki Shrine on Okinoshima where he spent the last 19 years of his life and is now enshrined as the residing deity. The swords will join swords of the Oki Gobankaji and the Showa-Gobankaji on display at the Emperor Gotoba Museum in Ama Town, close to Emperor Gotoba grave.

The sword in Japan is not merely a weapon, it is a sublime piece of functional art, with deep spiritual and historical significance to the Japanese people. Just like Mount Fuji and Cherry Blossoms, the Japanese sword is an enduring symbol of Japan. It is my hope to share my love and passion for Japanese swords with all of you here on UA-cam and make the Japanese sword accessible to the world by introducing the Japanese sword to new audi-ences from a Japanese perspective. That is why I created this Channel for the promotion and preservation of Japanese swords and related craftsmen.
Please subscribe to The Japanese Sword UA-cam channel to never miss a video!
