The camera took this footage from treasure island (TI). The bridge that is being replaced is from Oakland to TI. The lanes go from here through a 2 decker tunnel on TI onto a bridge from TI to SF (not being replaced). Both sides have always been 2 levels. In the vid, the section on the right and the part they moved into place are temps, so they can connect the new brigde being built next to the old, to TI. The temp part cost 300 mil. The new bridge will not be 2 levels until meeting the tunnel
Wow, what do you need to get 5 stars on youtube a jonas brothers soundtrack? This is once in a lifetime footage. of a bridge project that will persist into the next century.
Who would of thought, some hundreds of years back, that we would be capable of doing this. I gotta say, for the first time in a while, I'm gonna give humans some credit. :)
if you look closely you can see the new bridge in the background behind the truss....new bridge goes into old tunnel..detour is built to divert traffic.. so they can build constantly.
its maintained by anyone who wins the bids for the job... CalTrans usually wins, but they work so slowly, and drag everything on for months or years at a time
I could not see what was happening because it moved too fast. It should have been slowed down to appreciate the effects to enabe us to see if we could ID any of the guys workin' on it!
WHAT IF I TOLD U....my mother's father was a major contributor in designing and constrution of the SF Bay Bridge. he also did the one in Spokane?...i'm from Chicago and my mom's father was president of a company there called Bates and Roger's...and i had a book all about the company,,but lost it,,and would love anyone to tell me any info..mom was given thousands of the usa .50 cent commenerative coin honoring the first floating bridge back in 1936 ?,,the first coin issued of that kind.any help?
I haven't been over this bridge in 7 years, it's truly an awesome bridge to cross, pretty amazing.
It's amazing that they did this in 4 days over the Labor Day weekend...wow!
I haven't been out to Frisco in years but I remember going over this bridge once while out there in the early 60's.
This is an awesome video, good work!

Rain or shine ,Day and night nice vid.
well done!
Maravilloso!
good to see that construction went smooth. the upload could have used some music though
bridge building seems like a worth-while job
(sorry forgot about this) nice, wish our construction workers were that devoted to there job. it takes ours 9 mouths to do the same job

Immpressive and you had to see what happened next, extremely cool. 5/5 from me.
If only CalTrans workers moved this fast in real life! I'm glad they discovered that crack though.
Bad Brains' self-titled album is a really good soundtrack to this.
good job caltrans!
Portbalto is correct! They used Dove liquid soap to lubricate the span for easy movement. True!
hi, the movies is excellent, thanks ★★★★★
Yeah uhh they fitted a new part, if you don't like engineering time lapses then that's not my problem.
that was cool
i'm in montana most of the people that have moved here within the past 3 yrs. are from 'cali'. and i have been to califoria.
I would love to take a look at the script
Civil engineering FTW!
So your cousin who lives in california has never been to california? How does she do that?

Cool
I thought they were building a new bridge?
What are they doing?
wow. they must've really worked really hard.
they say go 55 on the bridge but people go minimum 65 and rest speed at 70-80, the turn looks a little sharp to me
thats insane..
damn they are working hard

World's Toughest Fixes
wow it only took them 3 minutes and 46 seconds to do this wow just playin
Neat-O!
In case you didn't know, humans made the machines....
no i dont know. the engineers go though extenive testing to make sure it is stable. they dont ganble with peoples lives
its a temporay by-pass for the next 3 years while the new bridge is completed.
check out 1:58 -2:00
Seems the Galactic Federation is checking on the progress.
2:14~2:18 is sooo cool
not the bridge but how it changed from day to night

I hear on Ed's show that they are using Chinese steel.
its there for good luck
can't you see it was done under 4 mins ?
get your facts straight before you say anything. The Bay Bridge is owned by the state of California. It is maintained by CalTrans.
