awesome cover! fun fact: this specific variation of the theme was arranged by Ifukube for his 1983 piece, 'Symphonic Fantasia no. 1', a concert hall medley of different film scores he had composed over the years (including many Godzilla pieces). 8 years later, when Ifukube returned to composing film scores, this version finally made an official film appearance in 'Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah', and has been the go-to theme for Godzilla ever since!
@@jerodbarbee1821 yeah the 1954 main title is part of it, but the fanfare and intermezzo at the beginning weren't in that film. the fanfare first appears in king kong vs. godzilla and isn't ever played as part of the main theme until symphonic fantasia no. 1. sorry i get very um actually about this specific history haha
As always, excellent rendition from someone who deeply understands the original. Also, i cant be the only one who cant help but expect a hot beat to drop after the intro lol.
This is EPIC!!!! Thank you!! This is the best thing I've seen in 2024 so far. I'm so glad I stumbled on to this! BTW: I have that EXACT solar powered Godzilla Business Card Holder! My friend got it for me while he was in Tokyo. I've never seen another one in the US.
AHHHHH LOVE IT SO MUCH Just got a cello myself (have played violin for over a decade but cello has always been my favorite) and I love watching your videos while playing!!! ✨
"...say, how did they make the old Godzilla roar, anyway?" (research) "Huh, they took the lowest string on a contrabass, ran a glove with resin over it, and then played with the speed?"
I know nothing about Kong and Godzilla, but I feel like his longer arm reach and better movement with his legs will allow him the upper hand... Either way, excited to see the fight on the big screen... Oh, and cool song too, as always, you know the deal! :P
It might be tough without some simple songs to help build basic technique first. I think the main melody here could be doable pretty early on if done in first position rather than shifting around like I do here
The lack of Ifukube ruined GvK :( There's a marvellous Japanese string quartet version on here somewhere. As well as a documentary where, despite being in Japanese, it's obvious there's a bit where Karauo Wada is explaining " Ifukube San COULD have used violins for the main riff, but the exact same note is far more epic on a cello, so he voiced most of it on them". It doesn't go in to how many brass players died under his baton though........I imagine there's a mass grave near the Toho tank....."This horn section's dead, muck them out and get me another"
This REALLY captures that feeling of hearing that theme for the first time. Well done
Yesss! Glad you think so, I love this intro so much
yes exactly what i felt
If something like this were played in any modern Godzilla movie I would be super impressed

Wasn't this the song from the opening credits of the very first movie?

2:08 top right pannel.
Cello Basset is showing that he is canonically bigger than godzilla
Hahaha
You knocked it out of the park with this rendition!
Thank you Jag!
I miss you
Anything sounds amazing in cello. When that upper octave comes in I get the chicken skin every time.
Fantastic as always! I loved how powerful it was, it had that menacing quality that godzilla is known for
Yes! That intro is my fav, so much Godzilla hahah
Great music no matter how its done. GREAT!
If I didn't know any better, I would've thought this was an official rendition. Amazing job!
Thanks so much for watching :)
Hot damn- this was great! Really had that POWER that tells you "Yo, Gojira's here, mf-ers."
This is incredible! Whenever I hear that intro, in my head I say "Simon says get the f*** up"
I cannot put into words how incredible this performance and your arrangement is. Absolutely spectacular.
Simply unique
Thanks for this

I haven't heard this one before, but it was great the way you played it. Loving the new intro sequence, too!
Thank you so much for continuing to reply to comments years later!
This is what wakes me up from my sideplot-induced nap!
I love the way you make dark music really enjoyable to the ear. That’s a rare talent.
I CAN FEEL THE EPICNESS!!!

This would've been awesome if you added a close-up transition briefly of your timed scrunchy grouchy face. xD Nice!!
Hahaha that would have been great darn
Starting cello lessons this weekend. Would it be weird to request this as the first song I learn??
