  • For the longest time now we have relied on RODE for our wireless video mics. But we can’t deny they aren’t the cheapest method to record audio. However, Godox might have finally found a worthy competitor at nearly half the price with the MoveLink M2 II. But is it any good? Let’s find out.

    Great video, thanks! I do have an important question, however - when you did the sound comparison tests, did you use the built-in noise reduction function on the Godox mics? I am guessing you might have due to less noise and somewhat lower output, but it's tough to say between two different brands

    If you buy either of these, the Rode or Godox, no-one is going to care when watching your footage. So which system will make your production life easier? I started by using a wired system and adapters to Frankenstein an audio interview setup to fit a Canon 70D. It worked, it sounded great, it was cheap as chips, no-one who watched the viewing at the BFI was any the wiser. But it was a pain to use.

    This review really helped me. I thought the Good will sound terrible in a noisy place compared to Rode but it really holds up. That's the most important thing for me. I want a mic that will handle noisy environments

    The Rode's are now almost twice the price of the Godox M2 II mics and the Rode's have a fatal flaw in some batches. The batteries die randomly during use even if fully charged. I had to return mine along and so did 2 other DOP's I know. Just be cautious when buying these and what the warranty covers.

    I think I found the best lavalier microphone system. Godox Movelik + Sony ECM-LV1 And I think with this configuration they sound better than the RODE at half the cost.

    That lady's mic placement is not the same as yours. Also, she isn't holding the paper directly in front of her like you and in turn the sound can't "bounce" back. Would it make a difference?

    • @rickbiessman6084
      @rickbiessman6084 2 місяці тому

      Absolutely both of those things make a difference! Lav mics are almost always omnidirectional, meaning they pick up sound from all directions with the same volume and sound character. When I run live sound at my church, I can immediately tell when the pastor leans on the pulpit because the reflections off the pulpit change the sound. Or when he raises a glass of water and is about to drink. Or moves his hand close to his face. Not everyone notices this stuff, but all of these things make a difference. And proximity does, too. Think of it like this: the closer the mic is to the desired sound source, the louder the desired sound is _in comparison to_ unwanted background noise. So generally, getting closer to your sound source is a good thing. Unless getting too close compromises the sound (e.g. putting a lav mic under someone’s chin _can_ result in a bit of a muffled sound).

    I've had the original Godox Movelink set for over two years now, and they've been flawless. Admit I would like to see local recording storage, but I've never even experienced the slightest audio glitch, so fortunately it hasn't mattered in the real world. I also think the Godox look far better. I HATE that ugly bold RODE logo. Just looks cheap

  • @rickbiessman6084
    @rickbiessman6084 2 місяці тому

    I don’t own and haven used either mic sets, but from Benj Haisch’s video I concluded that WITH the lav mics, the Movelink M2 sounded MUCH better than the Rode with or without the optional lav mic. Something to keep in mind. Whenever possible I’d prefer usin a separate lav mic, even if it’s just because it looks better.
    And the fact that video makers generally consider a $50 microphone expensive is just absolutely laughable to me. Coming from a music production background, that’s as cheap as it gets. Paying thousands of dollars for cameras and lenses and then skimping on microphones is tragically common, but on of the most stupid things in today’s world of video production. If only people realized how big a favor they’d be doing themselves if they bought microphones with flatter frequency responses (and practiced using EQ properly). But oh well... :)

    Sir Video recording after sitting in the super , car and closing the door
    There is no sound of the car, only talking, test it like this and record a video Noise should not come i.e. carriage sound should not come only talking

    If you use an external field recorder the intern storage of the Rode Wireless Go II doesn't really matter because your field recorder will also have additional storage!

      We'll be doing a review of this very soon. Could this one beat RODE completely?

    • @karlfriedrich7758
      @karlfriedrich7758 10 місяців тому +1

      @@Radiodotco after watching Art Video Productions' review of the Virso S, I bought the Hollyland Lark Max.
      The Virso S looked superb for especially with the Mi mount but has a surprisingly poor design choice in allowing a mute button to activate with such a gentle touch as he demonstrated several times.
      In a run-and-gun shoot that's easily missed. Even in the middle of a shot, the talent bumping it would ruin the entire scene and you'd need to reshoot it. An absolute deal-breaker.
      Why this wasn't a long press or a combo short then long press I don't understand.
      Would be interested to see you test this and see if you had the same experience with it as he did.

    • @Slipsch
      @Slipsch 10 місяців тому

      @@Radiodotco Well, depends, if you also want to use it with your Rodecaster Pro 2 or duo, then rode that that functionality, but in terms of mic quality, built-quality, and everything else. the Hollyland Lark Max is the best better than the Virso

    • @sjonmx
      @sjonmx 10 місяців тому

      @@karlfriedrich7758 Also look at the review of Art Video Produccion. And I bought the Virso, they took a while to get to Mexico. One intense week of use, placing the transmitter in pants pockets, on the back of the presenter and it hasn't accidentally paused once. I think that being the first review I was afraid of the accidental pause, I can tell you that it is not such a big problem. Art Video Production did not mention that the receiver can see when it is paused or recording and that already gives you peace of mind, I was surprised to look at the display with a REC on. I have a transmitter on a 10 foot boom pole and from afar I can see the record button activated. It sounds incredible, his weakness is the lavalier mic but I changed them for the ECM-LV1 and if you add the VDS-M2 you have a very complete package.
