    Great video and explanation! One tip for the sunroof, if you have an air compressor with an air blower chuck attachment, just find all 4 holes for the sunroof drains when the sunroof is open, and spray compressed air in each of the 4 drain tube openings, should clear a blockage right up

      Yeah, thanks. I had a shop blow out the right side because we had the passenger foot well flooded 2 years ago also. Should have blown out drivers side as well. I'll probably get around to it in next summer when I might actually have need for the sunroof.

    I seemingly have the same issue. It happened right after the heavy rainfall we received in the north east of the US. Love it! Thanks for the video!

      Yes. It was the wiring under the carpet in front of the driver (U.S.) side

      @@benjaminkondrla2006 the one thats covered with that long plastic? if so what was it? corrosion, water everywhere? Did you fix it by drying or rewiring and splicing? Please give details

      @@TheShakir98 yes when you pull apart that black plastic tray you’ll see the cloth loom wrapping around the wire harness. You have to open that loom, you’ll see the factory splices, I redid every single splice. They were corroded from water laying in the floor from my sun roof drain being clogged.

      @@benjaminkondrla2006 gotcha, did that today and those two exact wires that he showed in video were oozing rust water and werent crimped together anymore. So I recrimped, put new tape and covered the whole harness with extra rag to keep away from future leaks. Also unclogged the driver side sunroof drain and everything perfectly worked. Thanks for the replies dude

    Thank you for the great information. I had the same issue. The brown wire set was completely corroded off. The ends no longer had any contact. I can now solder these together. Need to find the sunroof drain plugs now.

      I took it in for a sunroof service. They cleaned the four tubes in the sunroof channel. The front two go to the cowl. They cleaned the cowl area that was packed with debris. I later pulled the wheel well shields and cleared the firewall plugs (star shaped nipples) that get crusted with dirt. This needs to be done annually where I live since trees drop leaves and pine needles that collect in these areas.

    Think this also happens on none sunroof models as well, usually if the drains in the air intake grill(in front of windscreen) are blocked, and water comes in thru the heater, must get around to checking mine are clean.
    Seen similar crap connections on an 03 alfa 156 i had, multiple high resistance joints everywhere, when you cut cloth wrapping off, and had a close look at the wiring(my main issues were in engine wiring harness), they were not even twisted together, just a tiny piece of brass wrapped around them, and lightly crimped.
    Manufacturers do not care, as long as it works until warranty expires, and likely want it to fail soon after, so you have to scrap and replace vehicle.

    • @alexp893
      @alexp893 Рік тому

      Yes, had the same issue on my 2003 with no sunroof. There are drain outlets behind both front wheel arch covers. These outlets get blocked with mud/leaves meaning water draining off the windscreen builds up in the bulkhead area then leaks in to the front footwell. Solution is to remove the front wheel arch covers and clean out the drain holes so they can drain freely.

    Happens on alot of modern cars now … splices in loom arent waterproof.
    All it takes is glue lined heatshrink - but thats too expensive

    Hey Danny, I think this may be happening to my 2008 toureg v10 that I recently purchased, one question I see that you were able to pull the carpet without moving the pillars or the footwell sills. Were you able to pull the carpet fairly easily?

    • @dannyj1969
      @dannyj1969  2 роки тому +3

      Yes it was fairly easy, I used a fairly heavy thick and wide flathead screwdriver to help pry it out from under the trim plastic. Once you get it started work your way up and around the foot pillar. As your work your way forward there is a foot block support piece underneath the carpet you have to wrestle with a bit and it stays attached to the carpet with light glue. The whole carpet is thick with foam backing and you have to bent it and force it somewhat but don't worry, I bent mine out of the way and let it sit a long time and when I reinstalled it , it went back in and all flattened out nicely.

    This video is super helpful. My car has very similar errors showing up. I found water accumulates underneath the driver seat and corroded wire connections. I am trying to reconnect them and I want to ask if I need to DISCONNECT the battery? I’d so, what would be the best way you suggest. Thank you all very much again.

    • @dannyj1969
      @dannyj1969  2 роки тому

      I did not disconnect battery for these 2 wires. Other wires than these 2 I couldn't
      tell you. I do know if you disconnect the battery without maintaining a 12v supply to the car you may not be able to turn your radio on..
