Why does this not please me? Great question! Simple, there are 46% single malt scotches that are 3-6 bucks more with an age range of 10-12 years that are way better. It is a blend but its priced as a single malt, never buying it for a single malt price.
Super interesting review Jim! This one didn’t do a lot for me. I found some, with a lot of effort, a couple of months back, and I didn’t appreciate it like I thought I might. You never know right?! I think I am primarily a single malt scotch lover and blends have lost something for me. I do love Charlie MacLean! I was disappointed and it wasn’t cheap to get in Canada! I found a company that had brought some in! I enjoy your thoughts a lot! We all have varying palettes! Cheers!🥂
Kia ora Jim, another great review, thanks for your efforts! I like this one, but I did pull a fast one and empty the last inch of a bottle of Ardnamurchan Cask Strength into my one, it's a real banger now!
Jim, thanks for reviewing this one. Since it is available online for me I'm going to grab a bottle. With both you and Drew recommending it I can't go wrong. I'm actually going to get a second bottle for a friend. I'm glad things have settled down a bit and you are feeling better. I've suffered from an occasional sciatica trouble and it is really painful. I hope you are free of that. Cheers.
Thank you Bud. I'm gonna suggest that Maclean's Nose is a good old fashioned, can't go too far wrong, affordable blended scotch. Your palate and mine generally don't stray too far away from each other so..I hope you enjoy it my friend 😉
I recently posted on another channel ( cant remember who ), drink this reasonably quickly, after a year or two half empty/full, it goes kind of flat. Drink it, dont wait , just drink it.
This made it's way to California for a good price last winter. First impression and carrying on it reminds me of the old packaging Benromach 10. A nice old fashioned dram. Cheers
Tried this one a couple of weeks ago (thanks to Sabrina Benoit). Really liked it. Oily, balanced, quite complex, fruity, mineral, ... Can be put on the same shelf as the Cambeltown Loch and the SRV5 (imho).
A hypothetical, sir. If it cost £43 instead, you'd still think of it as good value? In my market it's about the same as a Wee Beastie, Talisker 10, Bunna Moine and Deanston 12, but below this price there is little really of interesting quality except maybe Benriach 10. Like you I wasn't initially blown away by it, but sneakily I am getting more and more along with my bottle.
I totally agree with you. I've been to quite many Ardnamurchan/Adelphi tastings the last 12 months and this one has always been part of the lineup and it never fail to impress. Great review, Jim!
always love your reviews Jim. McLeans nose for me is a whisky I can drink anytime or whatever my mood. Great to see some very good blends out there,, I really enjoy Nobel Rebel from Loch Lomond group, especially the smoke sympathy, its not expensive and would be good to get your better palate and more experienced thoughts on it.
Having recently finished the last dram of the MM, I absolutely agree with your observations Jim; this is indeed a blend aimed at the whisky enthusiast. It is beautifully balanced, moreish and dare I say a crowd pleaser......I would suggest a permashelf whisky.
Nice one Jim! You're absolutely right, blending used to be a fantastic art but as time passes and recipes go down from years and years in big companies, the excitement and niche has been lost. I have not tried this one but all I hear are good things. This one and the Ardray are what blends should be I suppose. Have you tried the Ardray yet? I need to give these a shot but something is making me drag my feet. I'm thinking how many times would I actually reach for this rather than all the other bottles I have on my cabinet? Anyway can't say much before trying so cheers for the review!
Thanks for the review. Yes, an excellent value. I paid $35 in San Francisco. Are there any other craft presented whiskies at that tier? Completely off topic: What is the ball cap your wearing? It looks like Oregon University sans team colors, but I can’t imagine you’d be a fan of American Collegiate Football or basketball. Just curious. Cheers.
Thanks for the review Jim, this is one I haven't tried yet. Where does this rank among the blended Scotch you've had before. Blended Scotch is a little overlooked, I think. In your experience, which is your favourite blended scotch regardless of price?
Glad you are doing better buddy 👍This is one that I also liked more upon revisiting recently. I was pulling together a few different blends for my uncle to try and this was the one I liked the most of the collection. The Loch Blend was my second favorite of the bunch so can definitely agree with your recommendation there as well 😉. Cheers!
Thank you Drew 🙏. Let's face it...when done right..the whole benefit of a good blend is its affordability. In both cases...two quality bang for buck whiskies 😉
This is very good information and motivates me to pick up a bottle. With both you and Jim recommending this I know I'll like it. For the price it is a great one to have on hand. I always enjoy your comments, Drew.
Glad you back. Stay pain free.
Found the grain very up front in this. Haven’t rushed back to replace it. Maybe I’ll dabble again with it…..
Always LOVE your "if you like this ... " section. Good to see ya.
I got it in a shop round the corner from me and didn't like it burnt and harsh but its great in coffee .

Thanks for reviewing this one. I haven't been able to find a bottle of this yet.
Great review Jim. Will definitely put this in the shopping cart
Sounds so good. Hopefully it will show up here and I can get a chance to see if I enjoy it too! Thanks for the conversation!
If you were to watch Geoff at GWhisky and his review, his thoughts would sum up mine perfectly! We bought into the hype but weren’t thrilled.

I haven't seen it in my local whiskey shops 😔 would love to try it

Hi Jim, strangely haven’t bought this although It’s on my list. Think other whiskies tend to push this a bit further back on the list. Slàinte Jim 🥃

Thank you Euan. I have the other two Noble Rebels but don't think I ever bought the peated one. Will look into it sir.

I am also late to the party. I bought my bottle a few weeks ago but haven't opened it yet 😁 Liked the review!
It's a great bottle if you give it some time. Definitely agree with your take on why does it need to be a single malt.

Not tried a sample but wary of grain so would want to try before i buy one.
Am I the only reviewer who does not rate this? Not for me this one
