Thanks for this review. I bought Sony a7s iii, more than a month ago, and pre-order the Fx3. Happened to come across this camera and decided to give it a try. I got it in and within 3 days of playing around, I canceled my fx3 and thinking about selling my A7S iii. Even the new s-cinetone Sony introduced lately, this OMD Mark iii has more to offer, with an exception of 4K 120 which I don’t often used anyway. UHD @120 is all I ever need. Not having to use a gimbal for my video is a blessing in the sky. Thanks to the camera world’s class image stabilization. And that’s what locked me into the Olympic system now! I don’t think it can be charged at the same time while shooting though.
Superb review. I love your passion for photography and the super useful orientation you have for the gear you test. You put photography at the centre of everything you do and do away with all the brand vs brand nonsense. A credit to you. My favourite camera reviewer.
I am sending this message from Hiroshima, Japan. I used to use the Olympus E-M1 Mark II, but about a month ago I changed it to a new Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark III. The lenses are OLYMPUS M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 300mm F4.0 IS PRO and OLYMPUS M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 45mm F1.8 [Black] I have an OLYMPUS M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 17mm F1.8 [Black] and an OLYMPUS M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 25mm F1.2 PRO. I really like this camera because it looks really cool.
I broke my neck a year ago at work. The surgeries and rehab made me think I was going to have to quit photography because I could not take the weight of my full frame Canons. I had a 5DSR and a 6D. I traded the 5DSR for the OMD EM1 Mark 3. I have not regretted my choice. This camera and lenses (Which I have 5.) weigh less than the full frame and one lens. It gave me my ability to take images handheld without lugging my tripod. Truley giving me freedom to continue to take images without sacrificing quality. And still be able to take out my full range of lenses without much weight or expense compared with other formats. I did keep my 6D because it was the first camera I bought new and produced some of my best shots. So far. I enjoy the new learning and fun I am having with the Olympus. Truley a great piece of kit and better and more versatile than more expensive cameras.
thanks for the footage, i have zeroed-in on this camera due to IBIS, had bought sony a6400 but it was so so so bad that had to sold that...which lens would you recommend for this one..i am a travel vlogger, so sometime we speak to camera while walking, mostly try to capture cinematic scenes and low light performance will be also helpful, any recommendation?? Thanks in advance
Well, that's made my mind up then, 'Ive been looking to upgrade my camera for a while (I shoot mostly nature macro )...I've looked at dozens in my budget range and this Olympus had already gotten my attention..but now, after watching this video, I've now decided on it. Many Thanks 😊
Just moved from Nikon to Olympus as my primary camera. I'm all in. I will still keep my Nikon legacy gear to include my collection of film and MF, but for everyday use, it will be Olympus.
Would its focusing system be able to catch my cat's/reptile's eyes by the way? I so love my old M1 with 12-40 but hate to wait until Oly implements smart eyes recognition algorithms.
@@LarryK2024 that's good to know. Image quality is excellent but I also dont know about the menu. It's worse than Sonys menu. I'm still on the fence if I should return.
It was nice to see some GENUINE passion for a camera particularly a micro four-thirds camera - too many reviews (reviewers) are quick to be critical of this type of sensor sized camera without truly appreciating the benefits it brings. Just a question to end with. The features such as 'Live' ND are they JPEG only captured shots or does the camera record these in RAW as well?
It has My Menu... You can add whatever you want there plus the Super control panel and you can see all the major settings on the lcd back panel while shooting...
The only thing I dont like is that the buttons are not very customizable. You only have a few options when wanting to customize every direction on the directional pad.
I would say minimal as there are numerous tests showing the G9 coming out on top that's without overlooking all the other features the G9 has over it at a lower price point.
Don't listen to the guy above. Pretty sure he's a lumix fanboy lol. The G9 af can't keep up with PDAF in AFC. DFD af just sucks gor moving subject That's the truth. The differences are not "minimals". See for yourself here : mirrorlesscomparison.com/best/mirrorless-cameras-for-birds-in-flight/
No offense, but I do actually believe that you are not used to Olympus gear. Because 90% of the stuff you were excited to talk about were already in em1 mark ii. 20mp, 121 af points, 120fps lcd viewfinder, 4k 30p, wow, even UHS i slot in 2020? I'm shocked. Don't get me wrong. I love(ed) Olympus and I own em1 mark 2 and multiple pro lenses. This is em1 mark 2.1. Thanks for the review though.
@@bkaustav Thank you for pointing it out. I appreciate that. I'm not saying the official spec is incorrect but all the reviews that I read/watched were saying it's the same quality as em1 mark2. Even dpreview says it's LCD. I will investigate further but I feel like it is LCD.
Yeah. But u see the reasoning behind it,that type of sensor is easier to rescue shadows than highlights, so a high native iso lessens the chance of clipping the whites.
I own various cameras including OM 1 III which is really just a toy and you are a fab photographer but this was a terrible review with the worst editing of that poor girl's face. Don't ruin your good reputation.
I love your enthusiasm about Olympus. I feel the same way.
That’s one of the most enthusiastic reviews of a camera I’ve ever seen. Well done mate .

Great review, thanks. Love your enthusiasm! I’ve got the MkII and this looks like a good incremental upgrade.
I can't wait till September to get my sticky fingers on one, I do have the MK 2 which I upgraded from the 5 MK 2.
this week it is the second time i watch you that better then once in a week !!! no i'll not going to move to Olympus

I'm not sure why olympus didn't add the joy stick to the om5iii. It's such an easier way to move the focus PT.
Just moved from Nikon to Olympus as my primary camera. I'm all in. I will still keep my Nikon legacy gear to include my collection of film and MF, but for everyday use, it will be Olympus.
Ok, I've a question. How much would Park give me for a Fuji X-T3 with minor cosmetic wear for trade-in for an E-M1iii?
Would its focusing system be able to catch my cat's/reptile's eyes by the way? I so love my old M1 with 12-40 but hate to wait until Oly implements smart eyes recognition algorithms.
oympus E-m1 useful for the March Photowalk Thanks.
Really good video! Made me feel good about my purchase! The only downside is that Olympus does not have any detailed instruction manual.
And their menu system sucks.
@@Princeton_James I ended up getting rid of the camera because I spent too much time with a menu system that was not very fun to deal with,

Sony menu is awful and olympus is better however I find nikon to be so much
User friendly
Great review, no bs about buttons but the most important part for a camera: images.
Are the various directions on the d- pad customizable for various menus?
The press release isn't out yet, and you got the review... Awesome :°D
Thats called paid ad :)
nice review, u know.... your voice lets me keep watching your video....cheers

Thanks Brian, it can capture them in RAW so you can edit them as you normally would with any other RAW which is great :-)
I'm returning my sony a7s iii. Ordering OMD M1 Mark iii. More versatile, better color science, better IS, and better value!
A lot cheaper too, did you buy one?
Great review!
I believe the Em1 Mark IV will be the next OMG camera as EM1 mark II user :)
Best review ! 👍🏻😊
Nice review. What do you think about the menu system on the camera?
It has My Menu... You can add whatever you want there plus the Super control panel and you can see all the major settings on the lcd back panel while shooting...
@@bkaustav the super control panel is better than the entire menu system. The menu itself if annoying.
Nice review and can tell it your thoughts.
I chose this camera purely for macro. I like it as much as my A7r3.
Did you buy one
A great video :)
Thanks Catherine :-)
Waaaaaaaaaaaawwwww best review
The high res feature is amazing but really, how often does any one need a digital image in 50 MP?
The only thing I dont like is that the buttons are not very customizable. You only have a few options when wanting to customize every direction on the directional pad.
Disappointed still the same 20.4mp sensor, but I suppose any better would kill the EX1. Can't see the benefit of spending 2k over my EM1 MK2.
Advantage over G9 for photographing birds in flight?
I would say minimal as there are numerous tests showing the G9 coming out on top that's without overlooking all the other features the G9 has over it at a lower price point.

Clean image at 6400?
