There is no one I would like to see do their craft & magic than Fiona Apple. She has gotten me through every heartache for two decades. I hope one day I am lucky enough to see her live.
I was blessed to be able to see her in concert during her extraordinary machine tour and I got an autographed cd, it’s in a shadow box I treasure still
I could hear Fiona apple say my name a 1000 times and never get tired of it. My temps know what I mean. I'm a life long fan from her first song til this.
Her laughing at the beginning is adorable,I absolutely love her! I don't think she knows how talented she really is because it all comes so easily to her
I'm picturing Dolly's face w/ a beatific smile of approval. Thank u for sharing, Fioña. T'es à la fois vulnérable et forte. So beautifully "raw". So refreshing. Encore, STP
The best singer-songwriter who'll exist simultaneously to mine. Her beauty distracted people, like a magician would, from *just how talented she is* . Genius! -- VS Ramachandran lectured of *low* genetic trimming in the fusiform gyrus - making her metaphors and similes the antithesis of cliche. Adds to that _talent_ the insight of a psychoanalyst who's engaged in 20 years meditating in a cave to achieve her level of introspection. Adulation or hyperbole describing her talents may not be possible. Her endowments have collectively brought me -- and from the kinds of cheers you hear in small venues -- _so many_ *such* joy. _My_ words can't express _my_ gratitude for what she's given me. How many past concerts I've attended would I exchange for having seen her instead. As good as her recordings are,, Fiona is better live than recorded. Charming. Modest. Grateful. Gratitude which's _sincere_ ! not a _stage act_ to endear herself to patrons -- but gratitude for the love she receives. She was 18 when I started listening to her at 23 -- 19 or 20 when she won an MTV award... People spoke harshly of her "maturity". How could they know what it was like to feel the way she does, to be smart enough to articulate it as she does... These people *FORGOT* what idiots they were like under 21. And that's without the money with which to run your life off the "proverbial rails" My mistake was taking a co-worker for the sake of introducing her to Fiona's epic status... instead of a friend who shared my love for her... from which to create a memory.
Just like everything she does and has done as an artist, her version of this Parton classic is first-rate Fiona! I, too wish she had recorded this great cover!
luthierjustin1 yes but they had some gems. Walk the line was theirs. But thanks, I wasn't aware. I still don't think Dolly is the best. Pretty damn good, not the best.
I wanna see Fionna Apple and Benjamin tod do a album together...if you don't know who that is and you like this sort of music you should look him up...you won't be disappointed 😉
All I can think of is that they're dumb, yes, but also that she did such a good job emulating Dolly you can hardly tell Fiona covered it. And while the 1000 to 1 ratio is incredible, I still agree with you. But, there are still people who'd eat McDonalds. :)
its heart breaking. but then when you think back on just about all true artist-visionary old souled geniuses(like fiona apple) are shrugged past and not realized until, sadly, they are no more.
what?? fiona apple is still alive lol. if you want to know what's heartbreaking, it's the fact that she was raped and developed an eating disorder we should be preventing that from happening more than musicians that are 'shrugged past'. the woman is an amazing and talented musician and still is though. not forgotten at all. not sure which musician you're referring to as having been forgotten.
Amber Loft She's chosen her own path and she still records! She's extremely talented and well schooled! She chose independent recording which means she's her own boss!
I think they meant as no longer in terms of out there, fame wise. Real artists are so rare and have to be hunted for because we no longer provide a platform for them for the most part. It seems as though art is dying and so we're killing artists subconsciously. Which they're right. I can only name a dozen at most SEMI famous artists.
Fiona is awesome but this song is done so many different ways a lot are better but this version is live and cool. A lot of great voices sing this song to separate themselves from the good artist. Good job ms apple
Wow I was just listening to Tidal and found this. Ms Apple could you please try to do a cover of White Rabbit I think you could do much better than some others.
Edward Doonan that would be amazing!! My favorite “White Rabbit” cover I’ve heard is by Lauren Ruth Ward. She’s got the perfect raspy and powerful voice to rock it. Grace Slick even posted about it!
@@FXMSPreview Mick I know this is late but I will check her out tonight! That being said two women I know and respect (but disagree with) told me that Miley does a better job with this song.. The reason I disagree is that MC sounds angry and confrontational while Ms Apple sounds sad and desperate, which to me is more authentic. It's sad but the despair is what makes this song so great.
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene I'm begging of you please don't take my man Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene Please don't take him just because you can Your beauty is beyond compare With flaming locks of auburn hair With ivory skin and eyes of emerald green Your smile is like a breath of spring Your voice is soft like summer rain And I cannot compete with you Jolene He talks about you in his sleep And there's nothing I can do to keep From crying when he calls your name Jolene And I can easily understand How you could easily take my man But you don't know what he means to me Jolene Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene I'm begging of you please don't take my man Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene Please don't take him just because you can You could have your choice of men But I could never love again He's the only one for me Jolene I had to have this talk with you My happiness depends on you And whatever you decide to do Jolene Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene I'm begging of you please don't take my man Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene Please don't take him even though you can Jolene, Jolene
I think this is the same performance but with video, possibly a different audio source as the audience sounds have less emphasis - ua-cam.com/video/_WIErhbtxh4/v-deo.html
Maybe I wasn't clear,I mean it's a song about desperation though I can't imagine anyone being confused. Are we in a game of mad libs? My statement and your question are completely unrelated
i personally think they do a good job, and without them it mightve been more "bare" so adding them was a nice touch. we can just appreciate that this cover exists huh ;D
Why is Miley Cyrus thrown into this list of Fiona vids? Talk about pushing pop on the public! Also, why with a worldwide audience that YT has Fiona has to settle for less than 22 million for her biggest hit and Miley gets 129 Mill for some Backyard song? I dont get it! Even for an artist 20 years into her career!
uh because Miley has also covered this song as part of her Backyard Sessions. You don't know what you're talking about if you haven't seen that performance.
why is crap like beyonce and kanye popular but true talent and artists that have to something to say just fade in the background until they die you know then all their "fans" come out of the woodwork saying how much influence they had on music and how they will be missed haha. todays music sux minus a few
They use algorithms and numbers to create music that will appeal to the masses, that is why most pop music sounds similiar. Also their is not many writers within the mainstream music scene, as well producer interference all leading to court cases about infringement failing due to the aforementioned similarities
She is loved by my mother, born '61; myself, born '82; and my daughter, born '04! The music is timeless and so is she
Amber Loft the song or the singer
@Secure Administrator I love this song n singer, enjoying during plandemic
I only like Criminal and Shadow boxer. I sold her first cd.
I too love Fiona, born 59
Born ‘91 and I adore her
fiona doesn't but also deeply cares if she plays or doesn't for us, ever again. i love that exquisite gem. hearts hearts hearts.

OMG Fiona Apple covering Jolene? What a gem, thanks for the upload!
Phoenix Fresh I feel u babe!!!
This is by far my favorite version of this song, it rocks.
Fiona's voice is perfect .
😎
Holy shit! I did NOT see this one coming from Fiona Apple! It's a shame that she's so underrated. The girl is crazy talented.
She is not underrated by any means!
Her laughing at the beginning is adorable,I absolutely love her! I don't think she knows how talented she really is because it all comes so easily to her
She's very humble , me thinks.
😎
My great grandmother (Granny) introduced me to Dolly Parton when I was about 3. She would love this cover. God, I love Fiona Apple!
wow i love that she sang this one
Oh my God, this is a match made in heaven!
I was like....wait a minute. Mouth on the floor. Stunning vocals. She is still my fav female artist of all time.

oh my gos, this exists? amazing wonderful
i have found this on tumblr and fell in love, my favourite version of this song
this is something i've literally wished for before
She needs to record this in a studio!
You finally sang my song. To hear you say my name is unforgettable. You've made me the strongest Jolene ever.
I cherish her music and gift she shares so. Thank you Fiona.

Fiona takes risks, adding different spins to classics like "Jolene." She is brave.
Thank you so much for uploading this! :) Fiona's rendition of this song is by far my favorite. I was sad to see the original video removed.
Thank you, universe!
Omg, just came across this, first 5 sevonds and the hairs raise, blood rushes, amazing to feel this, she is sooooooo goood!
How is it I’ve only just heard of this woman? Fucking beautiful
Dolly Parton is the best country song writer EVER, no joke!
Her or Shel Silverstein
Wade Kingston seriously? You think people don't know who Hank Williams is? Lol
1DumBunny um, Johnny and June?
mary scheitler they didn't write that many songs really. A lot of the songs Johnny did were written by other people. The most popular ones anyway

There is a large group in the 90s that after getting fame, didn't want it and walk away from it.
Cover nothing else matters! That would be the greatest singer covering the greatest song. It would be perfect.
She did it and I was very skeptical because I am a huge Dolly admirer and from Tennessee but Fiona is spot-on here oh, also a Fiona fan

With flaming locks of auburn hair
With ivory skin and eyes of emerald green
Your smile is like a breath of spring
Your voice is soft like summer rain
And I cannot compete with you
Jolene
He talks about you in his sleep
And there's nothing I can do to keep
From crying when he calls your name
Jolene
And I can easily understand
How you could easily take my man
But you don't know what he means to me
Jolene
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I'm begging of you please don't take my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
Please don't take him just because you can
You could have your choice of men
But I could never love again
He's the only one for me

I had to have this talk with you
My happiness depends on you
And whatever you decide to do
