Baptist accountability is here ! Ive waited a very long time I seen the evilness of the IFB. My childhood turned very political. Roloff had people thinking we were bad girls, most of us were unwanted. We havent got to the age to be bad. Im on you tube as a child being called a whore, exploited for millions. They walked away rich, we came out damaged. 40 years ive never step back into a church

Oh my. I am so sorry about what you have endured. It truly breaks my heart and brings me to tears. Regrettably, it also breaks my heart that your experiences have jaded you. I can certainly understand, so I do not fault you. I would like to tell you that not all that bear the name of Christ are His. I know that it is extremely difficult to let your guard down and open your heart to the potential of having it broken again, but I sincerely pray that our Lord will reveal Himself to you in a real and personal way. If ever me or my family may be of service to you, please reach out. My contact info is in the description of my videos.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for speaking out so bravely on this pastor! I am a survivor of CSA, (Child sexual abuse) within the IFB, And the perpetrator was the pastor in principle of the Christian school that I was attending perfor far too long, there has been nothing but cover up, dismiss, slander, and all manner of failure to follow God's word, as well as the law on this, and I am glad that you're speaking out on this.

@pastorburris Thank you. I appreciate that. I noticed. We sound weird, but I believe that when it comes to this issue. God provides justice, and he provided it for me in a very unique way. In April of 1992, my molester was murdered. I was attending college at the time and was informed of this by my late father.

I appreciate your message here. I grew up IFB and as I have gotten older and wiser, it is my opinion that the culture of patriarchy and women only being valued for being able to have children, serve the man, subject to the man, not able to have an opinion, much less voice her opinion has been so damaging. The focus on rules, and modesty and purity culture has been a breeding ground for sexual perversion and has actually hypersexualized young men. The message that if a boy or man is tempted it is the girl’s fault.

thank you for the stand you are taking and the statements you have made against clerical abuse in all its forms within the ifb. i am not ifb at all. i am catholic: as far away from the ifb as the east is from the west, and then some! but i am a survivor of aabuse, albeit not from any church person. i am always happy to hear of anyone taking a stand against abuse, whatever the source. i pray daily for the healing and holiness, recovery and redemption of survivors of institutionaliced child abuse. in fundamentalist terms, it is part of my ministry. i am blind and part of a religious order.

I grew up in Trinity Baptist Church, Jacksonville FL. The pastor, Bob Gray, was put on the highest pedestal and treated like a god...all along he was abusing little girls in his office. THEY KNEW, and yet it went on for years. It makes no difference WHEN these things happened because it is an ongoing problem. It's the attitude that "everyone sins" and all you got to do is confess and move on. The young children that Bob Gray molested were thought of in the lowest terms but the perpetrator was sent on a mission trip to Germany.

This whole sexual assault issue has been jaw dropping to me.
I just have not known what to say. I have been blessed to never experience this horrid train of abuse and exploitation. But I have seen things amongst people who claim Christ’s name that I never thought I’d see.
But I cannot begin to imagine the corruption that people are into that has not been exposed yet.
The Bible says all things that happen in secret will be exposed in the light. These things are coming to light, and it’s so disheartening and makes people not even want to be in the church.
I continue to pray that these trains of abuses are continually exposed and God raises up a new generation of humble, pure, and knowledgeable pastors and preachers.

20/20 did an expose in abuse in the IFB church several years ago (2011?). Most IFB churches/pastors said something like “you can’t broad brush us all, that doesn’t go on in our church”. Here we are in 2023 and the evidence shows nothing has changed and it’s still rampant. Their system is corrupt.

I appreciate this response to the documentary. As the daughter of an IFB preacher who, with his wife, my mother, covered over me being sexual abused by my own brother so that dad could keep his ministry, I can attest to the reality that time does not heal these kinds of wounds. I told at least three IFB pastors about what happened to me, one of which was a close friend of my father, and no one ever approached my father about it, or did anything to hold my brother or parents to account, or offer to get me real help. I also told the school guidance counselor, who called me mother to come to school to get me. This would be criminal now, but then all anyone cared about was shutting me up for saying anything at all. One IFB preacher I told said that I just hated all preachers, didn't I? Well, no, I did not. I was looking for one preacher, just one, with the courage to address a wrong done to me, and literally not one preacher would do that. Eventually, I lost all confidence in the church as well as the god they seemed to hold in such high esteem. Would that god really live and die to save me if my own father wouldn't protect me from my brother in order to keep up an appearance of having his family under control so he could keep preaching? Doubtful, that. I was a girl child, and therefore least of all in my family. Not worth the effort to save or protect. While I deeply admire that pastor, Jim Shore, for saying what he did about him going down for not doing a right thing, it sure does feel like way too little said, way too late. But he is right, and if my father would have been willing to stop preaching and take his family apart if necessary, to protect me and get me any kind of real justice, then my stance about god and the church might be different today. But he didn't, and he and my mother defended and protected my abuser brother instead of me until the day each of them died. Erik of the preacher boys is exactly right in what he is doing and why he is doing it, and how he is doing it, and any preacher or purported christian who criticizes him for his work is not worth his or her salt.

      @LondonFogg Рік тому

I can't help notice the irony either, such contempt for people who choose to read a 400 year-old translation. Is there something about that where it causes such hatred in you and others? It's almost like you're saying God's Word back then is now obsolete, and He's changed it with new modern versions. Wow.
I don't beat anybody over the head for using a modern translation, but you're just as bad as those who do, like a serpents strike on the innocent men and women who choose the KJB. Do you remember who attacks the Word of God? Satan. Deny it if you will, but your attack on the Holy Scriptures makes you one of his henchmen. And don't use the excuse that there's "errors" in the KJB, or the translators were unholy, or "the Bible was only written by fallible men" bcuz these are sorry excuses by folks like you who need to go back to reading comic books.
I make no apology, because I am standing up against your hateful attack on God's Word.

Anyone who hates women that much and degrades them in front of the congregation should NOT be allowed behind a pulpit, EVER! I was very involved in the IFB church for decades and heard pastors talk like that. The vast majority of the time it was later revealed that while the pastor was saying the church wouldn't tolerate covering up sin it was actively going on by the pastor. Either the pastor or a person in some church position was committing heinous sins and the church was hiding it to "protect the cause of Christ".
First, Christ doesn't need or want "protection". He's can take care of himself and just needs his followers to obey.
Second, the IFB "church" has shown themselves to be corrupt. I don't trust them and have moved on. If anyone asked me I would recommend they do the same.

Excellent, yet disturbing info. Anyone who touches a child inappropriately requires the death penalty, including any pastor. Only those qualified can be pastors. A pastor has to meet all the qualifications for pastors located in the books of Timothy and the book of Titus, Ephesians 4. They need to compare themselves to Stephen who knew his Bible from cover to cover and preached it and they should too. He provided a walk through the Bible before he was stoned to death. He was a man of character, being above reproach. The arriving 144,000 male, virgin Jews of the tribulation period will never compromise the Word of God. They represent the heart of true pastors who will die for the faith. They will not take the mark of satan and his talking idol.
Pastors must know their Bibles from cover to cover. And they are not to allow the sexually immoral in the church nor those who are alcoholics, nor the dishonest, etc. Please read 1 Corinthians chapters 5 and 6. The church is to be equipping the saints for the work of service, to be equipped for every good work; Ephesians 4. Believers are not to be equipped to be rock and rolling with the sexy beat of the rock industry. They are not to be entertaining the masses. They are to be equipping the masses for all holy and pure and separated living. “Come out and be separate says the LORD,” not being one with culture and society.
And Women are commanded to dress in shamefaced modesty as they should never dress to incite a man to lust. Knowing men are to look upon them as sisters in all purity as Scripture admonishes. They are to display long hair, and the married women must wear the headcovering because of the holy angels who observe the church service and be silent during the church service. A true pastor would be preaching this. (1 Corinthians chapter 11)
An elder's wife told me women can't know their Bibles as if they cannot go to school and learn spelling, math, history, etc. This is manipulation, gaslighting, and insanity. It is as if the fewer people, including women, who don't know the Bible the better for church leadership to gaslight into all kinds of false doctrines and wickedness creating less accountability from congregants and pastors.
God judges the churches as we read in the first three chapters of Revelation and this addresses idolatry as well. Please study these chapters and the book of Jude, 2 Peter chapters 2-3. Learn your Bibles from cover to cover so you are never led astray by the ways of sinful men who claim to be pastors or evangelists. This is the day of the worldly/styling false church as God predicted would arrive.
Jesus Christ, the thrill of hope, for a sick, hurting, and weary world-Romans 10:9-10 from the Bible: “That if you confess with your mouth the LORD Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart man believes to righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made to salvation.”

Covering up abuse is never an appropriate response. We've also seen it in the Southern Baptist Convention. In my denomination, the General Council of the Assemblies of God, we are dealing with a massive sex abuse scandal within Texas chapters of Chi Alpha, including my alma mater Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas (I was apart of SHSU Chi Alpha during the 2012-2013 school year). Two lawsuits have been filed and two ministers have had their credentials revoked over either sexually abusing a minor or taking a minor to be sexually abused (in both cases, the minor was a family member and the former Baylor XA director is currently awaiting trial for allegedly taking his sons to be sexually abused). In total, eight ministers have had their credentials revoked over the scandal. It's the worst scandal in my denomination since the Jim Bakker/Jimmy Swaggart scandals (I became a Christian under Jimmy Swaggart's son's ministry). This scandal was exposed about a little over a year ago.
What makes me the most angry is SHSU Chi Alpha leadership knew about Daniel Savala's guilty plea in Alaska to child sexual abuse in 2012 and never told us. Savala had also been accused of sexually abusing young men in Chi Alpha prior to being charged in Alaska for child sexual abuse while he was a youth pastor up there. SHSU Chi Alpha leadership and other Chi Alpha leaders in Texas covered up the alleged abuse and the guilty plea of Daniel Savala.
Here is the article that blew the lid off the scandal: thebatt.com/news/chi-alpha-organization-took-students-to-church-with-links-to-a-sex-offender/. The Roys Report also has several articles on the scandal. I hope that the national and district leaders within the General Council of the Assemblies of God make changes to make sure that they are providing proper oversight of not only Chi Alpha directors, but of AG ministers in general so that something like this never happens again.

Much as I am disgusted by the egregious behaviors of some or even many within the "IFB", the term is very hard to define, as it is defined subjectively more than objectively. If your experience is with IFB churches that all but swore allegiance to Jack Hyles and his ilk, then of course your perspective of IFB churches will be skewed in the direction of seeing all IFB churches within that lens. To speak of IFB churches as monolithic is deceptive at worst, and ignorant at best. Your subjective experience within the "IFB movement" speaks for just that, your experiences. Further, your incentive to trash every independent Baptist church is high, considering you strongly detest the label, and have run from it, if not outright opposing it. Thus, your elevation of specific allegations should be held with suspicion to some degree, as should be unproven allegations of abuse held by those who are on a mission of spite against a label of belief that is held by them to be erroneous. I do not entirely think that one's personal incentive structure invalidates specific claims, but it is fair to suggest that if he makes any error with regards to the truth, it will likely not be in favor of those whose reputation he is savaging. The biggest problem I have with Recovering Fundamentalists or the like is they allow people to make claims, and then trumpet them as Biblical fact. They may be true. "He that answered a matter before he heareth it, it is a folly and shame unto him. (KJV)
