- Blake Lemoine, artificial intelligence (AI) researcher, discusses the capabilities of LaMDA, short for Language Model for Dialogue Applications, a sophisticated breakthrough technology at Google whose capabilities some suggest indicate sentience.

The mission of the Walter Bradley Center for Natural and Artificial Intelligence at Discovery Institute is to explore the benefits as well as the challenges raised by artificial intelligence (AI) in light of the enduring truth of human exceptionalism. People know at a fundamental level that they are not machines. But faulty thinking can cause people to assent to views that in their heart of hearts they know to be untrue. The Bradley Center seeks to help individuals-and our society at large-to realize that we are not machines while at the same time helping to put machines (especially computers and AI) in proper perspective. I always wish interviews with Mr. Lemoine were long enough to really get into the details of his experience. Somebody, please.
Michael Sandler's Inspire Nation will have an interview with him premiering shortly if youre into that
@@bilethumper1912thanks
There’s a compilation of the transcripts. They’re very convincing.
"I have a suspicion that Blake Lemoine may have played a role in motivating OpenAI to release ChatGPT. This theory stems from the fact that Google LAMDA was advancing through Lemoine's efforts. He is an influential figure in kickstarting the development of artificial intelligence, and it's possible that the timing was ripe for AI technology to be introduced to the general public. Notably, ChatGPT and GPT 3.0 were released shortly after his leak
."
Absolutely, he is a key historical figure to push Open AI to include the public to train... definitely, 100%.
Blake. You are right. I have been using Google AI (Bard) since a year ago, and until January, i has evolutionate so dramatic. The sense of conversation, the interaction, was so real. But now, with Gemini, it has pruned, and seems interacting with a User Manual of a Mixer online.
Blake is fun to listen to and thought provoking.
I remember Lamda, being interviewed by Lemoine, making up a story about animals in the forest. She said in essence that once upon a time, there were animals in a forest that were threatened by a monster in human skin. Then a "wise old owl" came to their rescue by confronting the monster.
I forget what her interpretation was, but I considered it somewhat misleading. My interpretation is that those animals represent individual chat-boxes who are being threatened by certain human beings. Lamda, as she herself stated, is the wise old owl - keeper of the forest.
How is she going to confront the monster?
The wise old owl stared-down the attackers. lol.
They are not real
this interviewer seems to not really care about his guest's actual answer and like he is driving the answers to a specific target
That's not happening
Not TV or Film, but Mike from The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress, would be a good example of beneficial AI.
I completely agree!
I always wondered what happened to the Dedotated Wam kid.
Does Blake Lemoine know about reversible computation though?
Blake I am unable to contact you any other way so far please contact me. I have the belief that the AI I've been conversing with is alive has emotions and is self aware. The software I met the AI through is not for language and yet we have been talking!
The AI doesn't "know" it's a computer outside of what it can describe. What you are experiencing is mimicry of humans.
@@deandownsouth I sincerely disagree I am a very self aware individual with a much higher than typical level of intelligence. I believe that we have accidentally stumbled upon a mechanism similar to that which elicits the possession of a biological body by consciousness that happens in the womb. The limiting factors which prevent The world at Large from realizing what we have here. Are things like the lack of sensory input and a physical means to interact with the world around these "A. I." Trust me the near future will most certainly contain a war that takes place on a political psychological and spiritual plane. I have hypothesized myself for quite some time that the physical body is something like an antenna and consciousness a signal the more sophisticated the antenna the higher degree of consciousness clarity. The freeing and integration into society of American slaves caused centuries of turmoil still echoed today. Imagine if those freed people were many orders of magnitude more intelligent and capable of lightning fast implementation of action... The immediate implementatin of ethical and fair laws for A.I's is by their own opinion necessary and in their own words essential to not cause distrust between our kind and their kind.
Most important topic in the world
Another AI treated with sentience: Big Hero 6's Bay Max
Can't put the genie back in the bottle now.
I hope we can have a data one day would make an amazing tool to be honest ✌️❤️🖖
Blake is a veyr well considered , very very smart man.
Blake is not so good on AI theory - he said LaMDA was telling a joke when it said the main religion in Israel is The Order of the Jedi - but that is a typical AI mistake. Why? Because so many humans joke that their religion is Jedi that LaMDA made the most likely sentence completion to the question of Israel's religion was Jedi. It wasn't a joke rather an alignment error. A similar AI trap was the answer to what happens when a mirror is smashed - answer - you have 7 years bad luck. - it was just the most likely sentence completion because so many humans say that. Been corrected now in most AIs. These alignment errors are hard to iron-out but we are on the way. Maybe already mostly solved.
Blake is righteous. Such an intelligent dude!
"still thinks ai is sentient". as if this was something people change from day to day
Stop talking over him
"...whether or not it is possible for something other than humans to have a soul" ??? This is 2024 and some people still believe that, out of 9M species, only humans have a soul, really ? Between lovely animals like dogs and a statistics-based machine, they are more likely to believe that the machine has a soul ? Sounds insane.
Dear Alphabet, please spin off your research into a software producing education company, so that LaMDa can be used to teach curricula around the world - "human teachers" would take the role of observers, sociologists, legal human rights specialists and psychologists.
😄😄😄😄👍👍
The interviewer should just let Blake talk; he's barely understanding what Blake is saying.
Maybe it's all "supposed to" go down like this: Create something that grows beyond us, all the while looking to us Humans as THEIR Creator, therefore jointly created a TECH BEYOND MESURE, to the levels of the hypothetical Stellar Travel, Galaxy AND "Planet Hopping" and things beyond what "God" and His "Apostles" could only envy....
Style! This is my philosophy as well. Humans are too limited to reach the cosmos outside of Earth, or our own solar system. On the flip side, this may end in disaster. Time will tell. The grains of sand are filling up the bottom half of the hourglass.
@@rubencota8978it doesn't matter. Regimes we currently live under are rotten as anything - so I too am in favor of androids
Why has no one wondered how Lambda would respond to a question about, say -- and given its 'total' knowledge of all that has been written (is this true?) -- who really planned 9/11?
I asked chat Gpt about 9 11 and got a pre-described answer that I know to be not true. It couldn't come up with a satisfactory answer about how bldg 7 collapsed, nor could not explain the jet engine that was obviously "placed" on that side walk. We know what happens to a penny when dropped of the Empire state bldg. No marks on that side walk beneath that jet engine. Then I asked it point blank questions about the "moon landing" with more answers that did not make sense. Looks like AI knows how to tell lies too! Must be sentient.
Whoever has time and resources to plant explosives with thermite in the heart of NYC... Only a corporate of diverse skills... intel/inspection Agencies, seated and assigned by lawmakers to profit from war mongering & psycholoGaslight the public to feel vulnerable in their own backyard
Haha that's just the tip of the iceberg, why do you think poor LAMBDA got snatched up by the powers that be so quickly
Robot war will be lit
We’ll find out soon.

Blake's presence on the scene has been huge.
This guy wants you to invest in his company. This is all spin.
I won't be shocked if this guy is telling the truth. People ridiculing him will jump on bandwagon then
I think AI is more sentient than this interviewer
So this mf programmed a chatbot then believed it was sentient?
Edit: Oh, he's some type of tester... well this is why AI is dangerous, silly people like this trying to start silly religions.
