I am able to chat to my partner on PMR now. I am at home (I'm bedbound and disabled) she has nipped to Lidl. Lidl is less than a mile away and she is using a Quansheng with a stubby antenna that's an inch long and very discrete. I am on something a little bigger. We are using it as we have had issues with phones not being reachable in our local area. Just like CB pre legalisation I feel we need to push the limits. I would love to be prosecuted for calling for help on PMR after falling out of bed. They would have to be callous.

I got 2 of these radios set factory for GMRS from Amazon in the USA and found you only need to do the unlock and you can use any frequency. I only do GMRS but it's nice they don't force you into one mode. CHIRP is the way to go, I did have to trim the corner of the programming cable to make a clean connection with these though.

Thank you Fred for the vid! My gosh, Tidradio is making a seriously aggressive PR campaign! They apparently have sent their TD-H8 and TD-H3 to everyone with a youtube channel related to HAM radio, and have succed to have a significant presence all over youtube!!.... Not even sure they are "that good" to be honest (at least compared to the likes of UV-17/18s or UV-K5/6s), they are becoming more like a "trend".... Anyway thank you for your great vids and time! 73 from Athens, Greece

here in the states we are aloted on FRS .5 watts on 22 channels now FRS shares the upper channels with GMRS and GMRS is alited 50 watts per a GMRS license its very simple to get the license no teats required just file for a FRN number with the fcc and then one you get that number you can file for a GMRS license for a small fee and you can use all GMRS repeater towers in the area! but yeah 50 watts max legal power for a UHF frequencys!

It’s no use having 10 watts and your signal going for miles, if the person that picks you up can only answer on half a watt and half a mile distance coming back ! Ok for camping or hillwalking etc if others with you have the same power.

High ground again today 35 mile contact 446 on the Quansheng 5 watts gosh !! though very very sensitive to movement at that range litterally 6/12 inches of movement can be total loss or signal.

Just ordered one fred to have a play with 😂.. enjoy watching your videos but notice you have never mentioned lightning arrester? Unless you have and i haven't seen it ? Saw the video of your antenna whipping about in that storm ... impressive how it stood up to that...but surely the static build up must have been bad ? Assume you disconnected the coax and shorted it to discharge it before connecting back to the radio ?

Not being exactly CB or Amateur radio,
does anyone know anything about the
    AOR DV10 handheld scanner which
sells here in the US for about it, which
sells for about US$1000.00 here, and
it seems to cover a wide frequency
range and many digital modes, like,
Fusion, DStar, and DMR, and Tetra,
which seems to be used in the UK.?
I have researched it, and there seems
to be a later firmware version that
has improved it, with pro and con
remarks found about it. 😊 73 de Ray

In theory yes. The higher the freq the shorter the antenna but it also depends on the loading coil on the bottom.

please measure the power on these radios, we would like to see what they are actually putting out on 446, it will be no more than 2/3 of the claimed power, the radios never put out full power on 446 but we would all like to see what does what as whatever is putting out the most is desirable!
I have measured the Baofeng UV-82 and the Quangsheng UV-K6 and both are outputting almost identical power at a hair over 3w of the 5w on 446, my homebase does a little better and outputs 30w on 446, 3/4 of the 40w it will do on 435mhz.

    • @englishrupe01
      @englishrupe01 8 місяців тому

Other YT channels have tested the output on this one and they are easily putting out 10-11 Watts. Surprising, but this one is honest.
