A collection of 7 UK TV adverts c.1971: 'That Shirt', 'Us' deoderant, Harry Worth (Civic), Clunk Click (Jimmy Savile), 'Time' tights, 'Favourite' Ties & Ben Sherman shirts.
Apparently, Pete Wingarde was wearing one in a bus station toilet cubicle, with a hole in the wall of a adjoining cubicle when he err- ahem, was ... interrupted! 😟😟
I remember that ad for US deoderant, I have mentioned it to others but no one I knew remembered it so glad to have seen this. I used to love the persuaders too
That's the ultimate advertising statement. A bit like Nike advertising with a swoosh and no words. I'm not making any statement on capitalism or whatever, but when your audience is so finely tuned to the symbol or the slogan the company knows that they have got it made for them.

3 TV adverts for men's clothings. Now that's something which hasn't happened in a long time. Ben Sherman is still around, however looking at the Double 2 shirts it's no wonder we don't see that brand any more. Nice tweed 3 piece suit Jimmy Saville is wearing in the Clunk Click advert, I approve of that. Civic.. now whatever happened to them? I remember my dad buying a stereo from Civic, sometime in 73 or 74.
I'm sure i've seen this montage some years ago on a great TV show on C4 called TV HEAVEN with the late Frank Muir. They did a certain year each week with full episodes of programmes, a selection of opening credits from programmes of that year & tv adverts. I taped all the adverts from each show...that went bye-bye sometime ago...! :-(
Thanks For this great trip back in time. I'm old enough to recall all of these - even though I rarely saw ITV! And who could ever forget Harry Worth? I love it - including the opening with a Thorens turntable and arm!.... Now then - where did I put my nice new anorak - lol?
Some great memories here of simpler & far happier times for me. The 70's...The best decade by miles for music ( & real musicians ) & to some degree great cars too ( BL not included! ) Sadly it was the decade that taste forgot with fashions & interior decor!! Jeees!
@UKSazzy67 It's all '71, this is the first Clunk Click ad he did from then. I guess Jimmy was one of the trendsetters! I've got a clip of Herman's Hermits (past their success) on Morecambe and Wise from 1970 and they've got big lapels on their suits. They look like '70s wedding guests :D
My sister has met him when she was on Jim'll Fix it and she could now turn round and make something up about him like 'He molested me when know body around,' and go to the press with no proof and only her word! Show me the hard evidence?

Crap analogy made in the Savile ad. The egg was in a cardboard egg box, but was loose in a metal box. Thats not a realistic comparison, he should have had it loose in a cardboard box! Do it properly Savile, or not at all (and he did many people properly LOL)
That's right Feisty1967, although I know he likes to keep the "Dr" bit quiet - especially on planes... But you'll notice on some outdoor sketches he does wear a trilby & heavy coat - just like Mr. Worth. Doesn't do the reflection gag though.

The "you're ok with US" theme was released in the UK as a 7" single at the time,though its a slightly different version to the advert.
