In the books, Aegon didn't want to usurp his half-sister, but his mother poisoned him by making him believe his own siblings would be killed if she ascended the throne.

@@terrylopez3570 It's rather ironic. Otto was the same man who pushed his daughter to marry the king, and to make Rhaenrya heir to spurn Daemon. Him poisoning her mind with the idea Rhaenrya would be forced to kill Alicant's children is becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy. If Alicant wasn't scheming to get her own kids on the throne, Rhaenrya would not have even considered having them killed.

i LOVE Miguel's work (can't wait for ep7), but there's no harm in fleshing out small characters a bit more even if they don't serve much purpose for the dance of the dragons. i would've loved to see a bit of background to laena/daemon and harwin/rhaenyra. but anyways.
that scene with Daemon and his daughters shouldn't have been cut out though. that's all i'm gonna say. he's not that bad at being a father even if he was so shaken up (those scenes having been filmed in the first place is proof)
I agree, I was really disappointed to see that there was a scene of Daemon hugging his girls and that they cut it out.

This is a really fun podcast. "A great exchange..." Yep, that's you two when you disagree. Well, maybe not disagree, but have different viewpoints. But open and respectful and funny. Well done. And I was wondering if that was the same window that Tommen jumped out of. Good catch.
This episode is PACKED, while it's not bad in any sense, I can see how viewers getting lost and confused if they haven't read Fire and Blood. The minor characters, namely Laenor, Harwin and Laena could have been fleshed out a little bit more, their screen time was just enough to get me interested in their entanglement with main characters (Daemon and Rhaenyra) but not a second more. Even the main characters feel somewhat inconsistent and abrupt due to the time jump.
Maybe another episode focusing on how the characters evolved during the 10 years could have helped.
Agreed. Just one more episode to flesh out those relationships would have been great. I think the showrunners underestimated how much fans would like Harwin and Laena. Lots of breadcrumbs were dropped but we didn’t get to see the payoff.
It's weird that Miguel talks about letting us get to know characters when we barely got to know Harwin and Laena. We didn't get to explore the dynamic between Rhaenyra and Harwin, or that between Daemon and Laena (not really). We could have gotten a bit more
Also why are they so hellbent on making Daemon a complete ass? At the very least he was a good father- so why cut out the scene of him comforting his daughters?
Speaking of cut scenes, why cut out the argument between Rhaenyra and Alicent after her marriage to Viserys is announced? That scene would have added so much to their relationship, it couldn't have hurt to have kept it in.
They cut out the scene of him hugging his daughters to show that he isn't a good father. He has no clue what to do and leaves them alone when their mother dies and he totally ignores one of his daughters because she doesn't have a dragon. You have no indication that Daemon is a good father, you completely made it up in your own head.
They're butchering his character by making him oversimplified and a one dimensional villain. He's evil and light mixed equal parts in source material, creators are literally peeling away any possible humanity his character has in show. Disappointed as hell tbh. He's literally the most important character of the dance, his arc shouldn't have been changed this way. Daemon is make or break for the series but I think they'll do him just like they did Dany and Jon smh

Why reduce Laena's storyline so much? Why was Daemon so distant this episode when he loved his children in the book?
That’s what I came here to find out. I really hope the next ep handles Daemon as a dad bc in the trailer for next ep we see his daughters beat up. He HAS to drop his walls and show us how he much he really cares about them.
There was a scene of him comforting his daughters after Laena's death but for some reason they decided to cut it out.

They're taking a different route with his character by simply reducing him to a damn near villain, his redeemable qualities being butchered unnecessarily in every episode just so people don't like him. Idk why that is. He's already evil enough himself, there's no need to strip him of his humanity. His character isn't complex enough so far
@@areebariz1639 I’ve never read the books so I would have to disagree. I love Daemon’s character. He’s ambiguous, chaotic, a true gray character. I watch a lot of reaction channels. He’s highly loved because he is so complex. He makes the episode better just by being in it. Matt Smith really infuses the role with an irresistible charisma. I just want to see him interact with his daughters because they really need him. But in the trailer the girls are bleeding so I’m suspecting he’ll react when he finds out someone hurt his girls.

Rhaenys and Corelys Have a very healthy relationship with each other , the last episode when they were talking about their son being in danger. That was really intimate for a couple to talk like that and he expressed that he was still very much attracted to her. So shame on you for glossing over them lol 🙄🙄

Vhagar was baelon dragon (viserys father) and caraxes aemon dragon( rhaenys father) those two are brothers and their dragons spent alot of time together fighting enemies so the two dragon have been close for a long time.

Hey, all of you complaining about the show in the comments - why are you watching? Do you like to hate watch? Why waste time on something you don't like? Btw, I'm not being rude. I would really like to know the answers to those questions.
Not everyone has to like every episode or every moment. I’ve loved this so far, and I even didn’t have a lot of issue with the time jump. I would have liked more time with the people who died. The ONLY thing that was ever make or break for me was Daemon’s character. Sure I have headcannon. But all I really want is for him to be equal parts light and dark like George describes him. I don’t care how they do it. I’m hopeful since Condal is in charge it will be fine. As of now, they’re not indicating they care very much. We’ll see.
Everybody praises Miguel for directing Battle of the Bastard, Winds of Winter and Hardhome, rightfully so BUT Let's not forget he's also (not solely) responsible for The Bells and The Long Night. And if I remember correctly he was the one who blamed people that their TVs sucked when people were complaining that the Long Night was way too dark! I'm happy that he "stepped down" as showrunner and they brought back Alan Taylor for season 2 (who directed s1e9 Baelor and s1e10 Mother of Dragons).
If you wanna go that way, Alan Taylor also directed the horrible episode "Beyond the Wall" - but that would be unfair, because neither he nor Miguel wrote any of those episodes. They were directed spectacularly tho. (and using "The Long Night being a little dark" as a serious complain and reason for him to leave another show is ridiculous of course)
Does anyone have any guess who the dragon was that Aemond saw down in the depths of the dragon pit after he got the piggy dragon from Aegon Jace and the smallest one?

I thought dreamfyre and vermithor would've been too big by now in the ASOIAF timeline to fit down in the depths of the dragon pit. The dragon looked black to me but there's no way that was the cannibal in KL chilling in the dragon pit.
I saw someone say it's Sunfyre but they aren't gonna show the most beautiful dragon that ever lived for the 1st time in super low light.

If Daemon doesn't want the Throne why did he smirk looking through the secret room listening to the Small Council, when Viserys said he has no desire for it and Otto said the Gods have yet to make a man who lacks the patience for absolute power. Additionally, why did he orchestrate the date on the town in such a way as to try to force Viserys's hand that he could marry Rhaenerya?
He smirks because he is delighted to hear Viserys thinks of him that way. He also was delighted and happy recieving that letter from Viserys while in war at Stepstones, but second he realized it will stole his thunderstorm he got mad.
As for Rhaenyra he just liked her at that point, also probably he thought only him is worth to marry her.
Rhaenyra is a way-in for him into Viserys' circle. He can't have that through simple power-chasing (Viserys won't make him his Hand or his heir and keeps sending him away), so he goes after his brother's daughter. She serves as a stand-in for Viserys, in which he can use her both to get to him as much as he can (because of his bitter feelings) and as a replacement, because Viserys's been rejecting him forever.

@@jacksparrow9227 being power hungry for the sake of his brother's acceptance and attention is not the same as genuinely wanting the throne. and like, sure, this show is no breaking bad in terms of writing, but i have been accompanying quite a lot of what ryan condal has been saying about daemon and he is the one with the most clear vision of the entire arc of the character in season 1. comments that miguel sapochnik and sara hess have made are not as in depth, but all agree with the same vision.
Show remindes me of S1 of GoT,every mayor caracter are gone dead after few episodes,including the King,so in coming seasons we expecting another mayor carcs coming and goes dead after 3,4 episodes,only 4,5 of them would stay 'till Cregan Stark come to King's Landing and execute them all

The biggest problem with the episode is that the older actors have very different accents than their younger versions.
And Miguel didn’t want them interacting with the actors that played the young version of them - which I think was stupid.
Their personalities and approaches feel different. It makes them feel less like the same person.

The actors for Rhaenyra and Alicent look like 15. They simply cannot convincingly play 30+ year old mothers. The older actors were cast first btw, the younger ones came later.

Thankfully it doesn't have much. Still the little bit that it has is the worst thing about it, making the Velaryons black was terrible from the beginning but it's gotten worst, it makes zero sense to question Rhaenyra's children ethnic traits now.
