  • All 177's need their wing spar carry through inspected. We passed the test! Now, once again we've fallen in to the "might as well" part of the project. Here is an update to what we are doing.

A beautiful plane; I love the color scheme. With all the new plastic and sound deadening it’s going to smell like a brand new plane!

Hopefully that’s true. My daughter hates the “old airplane” smell.😀

@@quinnjim She hates the "old airplane smell"?? Well, was she upset when you told her she was now out of the will? ;-) -- Kidding of course. I love that "old airplane smell". But I can see my daughter also saying she does not like it.

Aussie here. The 210 that wing failed on did have trapped water spar corrosion, but it was used for contour survey work, up…down…up….down…up…down….

177s are a really beautiful plane. It's gonna be REALLY great with the improvements too. Fixing and improving things is sooo satisfying. I love that color too.

Glad you passed the eddy current inspection; pretty stressful time for an owner to go through that. I've been in my mechanic's shop for several of those and you can feel the tension in the air, and then the total elation when they pass (or despair that one time a plane failed).
That 'Hush Kit' looks like the same material that I used to line the interior of my 172 when I re-worked it a couple years ago. I ditched the rest of the interior though and didn't re-install any of the plastics / fabrics - left it looking like a 1960s pickup truck.

That is a beautiful 177 for sure! I had a '69 182 that by '74 had the same paper thin brittle plastic inside. Only 5 years old and had to replace it all.

I love the Cardinal - I was a 1/3 owner in a 1968 in the mid 80's N30248. I would love to find another one someday for all the reasons you mentioned. Thanks for the video!!

Always enjoy your projects/updates. I have several hours in a 177, back when they were new. Always felt they were one of easiest to land Cessnas.

I remember when those first came out. My Dad when out and got checked out in one and was warned about using full flaps at certain speeds! So the first thing we did was went to full flaps and went to the speed restriction. Both doors popped open and they will not close as the fuselage moves so much. We landed holding the doors and the owner of the FBO saw us and said You just had to try it didn't you? then he said he did the same thing and laughed!

    • @quinnjim

That’s crazy! Never heard of doors opening due to flaps before. They must have corrected that in my “B” model!😄

Quiet, you! We put a couple AV-30's in. We wanted to do an autopilot, but we can't since the AV-30's aren't certified to run the auto pilot. They also don't have a glide slope. Moral of the story is to NEVER install the useless AV-30's in your airplane.
