Brenden. Hi. I'm a fellow flyfishermen of probably 70 plus years or so. I really got excited when I watched your video on Lois lake. In fact I've watched it 5 times or so. I'm wondering if you might let me know where to purchase some of those brownish woolley buggers that you used so I can have some later this year when I travel north to fish that lake? Also I am a little confused about what time of year you were fishing that lake. I counted back 8 months from April 25th and I get September 25th. Can you tell me if that is right? Thanks so much. That's perty funny when I was a kid I went to Alaska to stay with my grandpa for 4-6 mouth a year he love fishing to we would go halibut fishing out of homer and there was a spot that they called Jurassic Park IV seen a 700pound halibut pulled out of there and talk about reeling from hours a 5pound sinker and about 900-1000 feet down they had a chair you would get strapped in to and a belt you put on to reel it in. Good times bring back memories thanks have a great one till the next one fish on🐟👍💯✌️🍻

Thank-you for at least admitting they're triploids. Many people don't understand what that means and how triploids grow to ridiculously obscene sizes quickly. Would be interesting to know how one tastes versus a wild fish.
Yes they are Triploid we mention it in the episode as well. Thanks for watching! We were with someone who kept a few but didn’t get a chance to try so I can’t say how they taste but he was pretty excited to keep a few.
ScreamingReelsTV these are farmed steelhead that have escaped the pens. Not your typical triploid rainbow. I don't understand why they have not admitted this in the episode. Everyone should head to Lois lake on the sunshine coast to harvest as many of these as you can.
The same if they've been free in the lake more than a couple months

I was wondering if you might please take a closeup picture of the brown , gold cone headed woolley bugger that you were using at Lois Lake near Powell River and send it to me? I can't really see it very well in the one in the video. I think it's got some white legs interspersed in the palmered hackle, but not sure? I'd love to tie up a replica if I can. Hey Brendan, how many fish could you expect in a day at this lake? It is just a few lunkers or is there consistent action? What time of year were you there? I think I know this lake. Did you fish the "point" area? Mahalo .
We had decent action, it wasn’t non stop but it was enough to be worth it. We were there March 22nd. If you know the name of Supermans lady friend you know the name of this lake!
Theres a fish farm on the lake thats notorious for not securing the pens and having their stock escape and ruin the ecosystem. So it should be pretty consistent. Probably get at least a few after four hours on the water
@@garfoonga1 the net pens are gone ... and seams like most of the fish, there is not enough natural food source to support these big fish ... looks like most will die off ... my buddie was up there for 3 days not a sniff.... and only two fish where caught for 11 anglers on the lake

Hey Brendan! I've watched and enjoyed lots of your videos, you have a huge range of experience due to not only your obvious passion and appreciation for fishing but your financial success as well. I noticed you don't seem to use bait casting or spinning rods very often. Is this because fly fishing is more effective? Do you recommend any good lakes within 4-5 hours of Vancouver where you can catch some decent size trout?
There are times when I use bait casters or spinning rods but the majority of fishing we do is ocean salmon fishing while trolling or fly fishing on lakes or rivers. We have done some episodes where we are targeting salmon by jigging and we have used spinners and bait casters.
When fishing for trout on lakes/rivers it’s just a preference of mine to fly fish. Sometimes fly fishing is more of a challenge than conventional gear. I just enjoy the intimacy of it.
There are almost an endless number of lakes within 4-5hrs of Vancouver to catch decent trout. The Merritt/Kamloops area has hundreds and the Cariboo region is loaded as well. There are also lakes around the Whistler area that have good trout fishing. Honestly, the best thing to do is go to your local tackle shop and interact with the guys working at the shop. They are usually dialed in to what lakes are producing at that particular time. They are more than willing to offer advice and provide intel on lakes. Good luck!

We did not go to the campsite but saw trailers there. It is an active logging road though so be smart!

I fully agree, Ryan, as this lake is now polluted with these "fish".. all the rainbows marked with clipped adipose fins are legal for the taking, and should be. The population of Native Cutthroat in this system are being affected greatly by the invasion of these "fish".
Now for some positive.. the Cutthroat in this system are absolutely stunning, and the amount of sculpin in this lake is insane.
More fishermen catching them helps the environment in this lake so exposing this fishery to more fishing will actually help this lake .I live there im aware of the issue

These are invasive fish. They are actually escaped Steelhead from a fish farm which is now shut down and the fish will die off as they can not reproduce. The fishing has actually started to not be so plentiful.
If you are making reference to Jurassic Lake in Argentina…… please dont. If you have never been you have know idea. I have been twice and it is spectacular and never anything like pellet pig lake.

My intel has told me that 75% of angler whom go to Jurassic Lake don't go back since the fishing is so easy. Fun for an experience, but sometimes the thrill and the work needed to get the fish is what it is all about.
Lois lake. They also provide alot of BC restaurants with farmed salmon.

Never was a secret... These fish need to be removed from the lake anyway, sooner the better. As long as the triploids are the only target, its a benefit to the local ecology

Man, I don't get your style at all. I grew up trolling on BC lakes with my dad, who fished all his life across the country, and he trolled with his fly rod all the time while I preferred a conventional trolling rig. He would never reel a fish in on a flyrod because the entire point is to pull the line with your hand. The only purpose of the reel on a flyrod is to wind it all back up when your done using it.
Two factors... Lot's of people fight larger fish on the reel because there is a certain point where the reel drag provides better tension than stripping the fish in, and second of all, I think it evolved out of saltwater trolling tactics with mooching reels.
I've also seen guys trolling lakes with fly rods, full sink line, and fucking downriggers for some reason. Who knows what that's all about?
Do you need a boaters license to operator a 9.9hp?
I believe it’s only needed for 10hp and up but you may want to research further
You need a Pleasure Craft Operators Licence regardless of boat size if it has a motor (gas or electric).

The hatchery that is responsible for the escapement of steelhead has been shut down. This lake is full of invasive steelhead trout and is being fished out and return to natural fish.
