NEC trains are forced to slow down here among many other places, this will allow them to work at their full speed for more of the route

I don’t think this bridge was meant to be 125+ mph capable; more importantly trains don’t have to stop when the swing bridge breaks

@@andrewreynolds4949 that is correct. Either way, this will ensure that the MAS will be 90 MPH for both NJTransit and Amtrak trains. Going beyond that, it'd be too short of a distance after all, because the whole Gateway project only concerns about 2.5 miles.

@@commodoresbank In theory the time difference between 90 and 125 mph over 2.5 miles is about 30 seconds; for comparison the time difference between 90 and 60 mph is around twice that. There's likely more time in delay allowance that could be dropped as well. The main benefit will be not having to deal with the delays and maintenance cost of the swing bridge, and adding additional capacity

The bridge is being built by Skanska, based in Stockholm, Sweden. The labor is primarily American.
