@@marchuta326 Well, as Runkle states, it's not exclusive to men as she was also referring to Ghislaine Maxwell's legal team. The problem is more to do with the assumption that guilty parties seemingly shouldn't have people offering them legal representation which is counterintuitive to the whole concept of our criminal justice system, or that she is saying that female lawyers shouldn't be attorneys for said guilty party, which is just as legally perverse but also inherently sexist towards women. I do agree that because her biases are clearly based around her personal specialty which relates to sexual violence and this is clearly a gendered bias in the assumption that JD is the guilty party despite the evidence and decision by the jury. So I guess really she is technically sexist against both men and women in different ways?

I am a female criminal defense and family attorney that routinely takes on cases with opposing parties that have mental disorders that have caused some problems in their lives. Not all people with BPD are the same, and I am only speaking to possibilities that sometimes exist where there are disorders involved. Defense counsel’s role is a critical one because some people with certain disorders, can have traits that take advantage of, and exploit the “believe all” mindset. The “believe all” mindset does not always take into account the possibility of false (created) evidence, and/or false allegations. Thus, there is the potential to undermine the whole system of justice in this country. I’m am so glad that the Depp case brought to the surface the victims that deal with false allegations who stand to lose everything because no one will touch their case. This person’s comments are unfortunate, and more damaging to actual victims and their cause.

    • @m0L3ify
      @m0L3ify 2 роки тому +21

Yeah, I used to work for criminal defense attorneys, and we had some pretty disordered clients at times. But, everyone is entitled to representation in court, even the unpleasant ones. Just because an attorney is representing someone doesn't mean they're complicit in, or condone what the person did. There were a lot of "come to Jesus" talks in the office with clients about facing the reality of their sentences, and a lot of face palming when their even more malignantly disordered mothers would try to manipulate the judge, making everything worse. The black-and-white thinking in BPD is called "splitting," and it seems like our culture as a whole has a bad case of it lately. I haven't appreciated the forced teaming Heard's PR team is trying to do with the "setback to women as a whole" mantra. This was only a setback for Amber. Full stop. What I loved about this case was that it shed light on just how many shades of gray life really has. Victims don't have to be perfect. There is no single 'face' of DV. It can happen to anyone in any relationship. I'm grateful justice was served.

@@m0L3ify Yes, exactly about the rigors of representation. Many people don’t understand that at all. Everyone is entitled to representation, it is required by the Constitution and if we don’t do our very best to defend every right that they are afforded, a very dangerous person could be let out on appeal. It is absolutely essential that we do our jobs to the very best of our ability in every instance, no matter who the client is. In this case, I am very happy justice was served, and a light was shed on the role mental disorders can play, and the potential for trouble and destruction of a life if the allegations are not thoroughly investigated.

"...Those who can't, teach" is an old English phrase, it wasn't something Ajay just came up with. If this is the first you're hearing it then you need to reevaluate the value of your teachers (specifically your English teachers): it's from George Bernard Shaw's 1905 stage play Man and Superman. Since then, it's evolved to the modern version "Those who can, do; those who can't, teach; those who can't teach, teach gym". This was the version I first heard from my middle school gym teacher and Run team coach, some 30 years ago. It's often said about music teachers as well since if they were great musicians they'd be playing with a philharmonic or a famous rock band... but they're not! This does not in any way devalue them as teachers because no student will ever start their studies with the likes of Beethoven, Jimmy Hendrix, or Nikki Sixx: we all started with a local piano teacher; even my college music professor only conducted with the Vancouver symphony once in his career. The fact that he's not top of his field doesn't mean he can't teach.
Same in sports: your coach isn't usually going to be an Olympic gold medalist (we are lucky in Southern Alberta to have Olympian Larry Lemieux as a coach but even he never won a single medal besides the Pierre de Coubertin Medal for Sportsmanship.

But the fact that this woman is a law professor and so much of the law is based on logic, is just mind-boggling, since her opinion is so logically flawed that it is completely self-defeating. She is being terribly misogynistic. It’s strange that in 2022, women can’t just represent a male client and have it be just about the work. This case had nothing to do with man vs. woman. It had to do with truth vs. lies. This so-called professor is projecting an awful lot of toxic thinking and sadly, probably confusing her student.
She should be focused on the law and the facts. Here is Camille Vasquez, a young and hard-working lawyer who is part of what seems to be a really decent law firm where they behave like professionals, and she just made partner. Instead of cheering her on, you’re discrediting her completely because you’re siding with a lying psychopath who got caught in a dozen or more lies in court? What a strange time we live in where so many mentally ill people hold positions of influence.
Totally creepy. Amber defecated in a bed. She’s an utter lowlife.

And she should NEVER be able to post on social media about real
Victims. She played with that term to garner sympathy and be viewed as courageous while living a lavish lifestyle with no consequences for her misdeeds.
      She’s beyond disgusting.
Real women, real people, real victims,

Unfortunately, the most sexist people are sometimes the most outspoken about others being sexist... It's shameful to have people like that around, posing as an activist of sorts while all they want is others to conform to their ideals.

As I taught my kids, the people most responsible for something are easy to find. They're ususally the ones who throw accusations at everyone but theirselves.

Thanks for discussing this Ian. I'm a college professor and I find that women have so many obstacles to dodge just to work in professional fields and then are often criticized just because we're female. You are right for so many reasons. My daughter is a lawyer and I'm horrified that she would be treated in such a disrespectful way just because she's female. Frankly, It's disturbing how many other women are gender traitors to their own kind. I find men are more supportive of female professionals in many cases than other women.

What I find kind of ironic is the only time I ever hear anyone talk about a woman shouldn't be doing that job! The one saying it nine times out of 10 is a fellow woman. Like am I the only one that finds it strange that women are more sexist to other women than they allegedly ultra sexist men are? I'm 32 years old and the only times in my life that I have actually seen sexism almost every single time it was a woman the denigrating a man, a woman denigrating another woman, or it was a really old guy using sexist terms of endearment towards younger women. But literally anytime I have heard a woman shouldn't be doing that job it's come out of a woman's mouth not a man's mouth.

As a graduate in the field of Mechanical Engineering in the 80's, I can say I was seldom questioned by men why I chose a career dominated by men. I was CONSTANTLY told by WOMEN that I should be a nurse, or teacher, etc... Taking the less followed path of any sort is not easy, it has it's challenges, but sometimes that what people want from life...the challenge. Do I think I was sucking up to male power? Hell no! I wanted to be involved in cutting edge design and technology and Engineering seemed the way to forward for me (I really wanted to be an astronaut but my health even back then wasn't up to the gold standard). So I say this woman needs to get her head out of the 50's and put that mind to better tasks.

AH needs to accept that women didn’t vote her into the “women’s rep” role she claims, and in fact we don’t want her, actively reject her and don’t need her to advance *any* cause.
