    You need some Neolamprologus Caudopunctatus & Gold Head Compressiceps to finish your great collection off now!

    • @JasonsCichlids
      @JasonsCichlids  3 роки тому +1

      I would love to have some Caudopuncs! But my cousin is breeding them and we try not to overlap too much with the species we have. I do however now have Gold Comps (not Gold Heads) in the fish room which I purchased a couple months after filming this fish room tour! They are growing up nicely and have featured in some of my monthly fish room updates since then.

      Ohh ok yeah thats the same as me. I spawn them but am unable to raise the fry so far. I get them to about 2 weeks old and they die. I left them with the parents the last time and the fry disappeared. Not sure if they need more practice. Probably best if you move the other fish out of the tank. But just make sure the male doesn't take all his aggression out of the female, see how you go keeping some dither fish in there with him.

    • @JasonsCichlids
      @JasonsCichlids  10 місяців тому

      Hello Darren, cheers for your comment. It is really easy to remove the occy fry from their tank as they tend to not rush to the the shells at a young age. Just use a net but I would wait at least two weeks to move them out though. I have found their survival rates drop if you move them out earlier, but your situation may be different. They were in a 2 foot x 2 foot by 14 in tall aquarium. Thanks, glad you liked it!

    Hey Jason, nice videos I just found your channel and subscribed. I was under the impression it's quite difficult to source cichlids in Australia due to the quarantine protocols. I know when I was there and in NZ the selection I'd seen in the stores was pretty abysmal. You've seemed to find a good selection of species. Is it possible to get any wild caught fish there?

    • @JasonsCichlids
      @JasonsCichlids  3 роки тому

      G'day mate, thank you for the sub, much appreciated! To source cichlids that are already in the country is fine, most aquarium stores stock at least some sort of cichlid, be it your most common types like Electric Yellows or Blues or "Mixed Peacocks" which are always hybrids. But that's a topic for another day. Sourcing rarer cichlids can be a challenge through aquarium stores but most of the time I get mine at cichlid club auctions. I am not sure about the import laws here regarding all cichlids however I am aware of a new law where we have been allowed to import Electric Yellows from the wild, so F0. Not sure if it's Australia wide or not but it is for New South Wales. I have seen F1 fry for sale numerous times before but I am not sure if they are legitimately F1.

  • @JasPlun
    @JasPlun 2 роки тому +1

    Update on my Gold Calvus fry. They are approaching 1 month and I am taking precations to not cause any shockwaves in the water. They are doing very well. I have not been able to count them all as they are in a tank with brown gravel and they blend in well. From what I can estimate I have about 20-30 fry from the 1st spawn. I am feeding them crushed flake, Crushed Cichlid pellets, fry food, and mising in some frozen brine shrimp. They seem to get small gowth jumps after I do a weekly water change. I am doing smaller water changes. Probably not necessary to do weekly, but they seem to love it when I do as I see them much more active after. I am lucky in Texas we have deep water well water that is almost identical to Lake tanganyika parameters so PH stays consistant. I took the lid off after seeing your video where you lost fry from vibrations in the water. So far though mine do not seem to show any stress even when I do a water change. My pair are captive bred from the Dallas area so I think that may have something to do with how well they are doing. I removed the male 3 days after spawn and the female after the fry left the shell and were free swimming all over the tank. I have the fry in a 29 gallon tank. I have a 75 gallon Tanganyikan community tank I moved the male and female to.

    • @JasonsCichlids
      @JasonsCichlids  2 роки тому +1

      That is a great update mate! That deep water well sounds absolutely perfect to have for Tanganyikan Cichlids! Very fortunate to have access to such good water! Glad you don't have to go to the lengths I have been with your fry, such as not having to worry about the clinking of lids, etc. Keep up the good work with them and you'll have a continuous supply of calvus to sell.

I’ve been keeping Tangs for 20yrs and those 2 have been 2 of my all time favourite genus to keep. Kept many over the year. I’d imagine a bit more difficult to acquire in Oz. Awesome collection, so much variety in there. Quick note, I notice some sort of high pitched buzzing coming from some parts of the video. The intro was clear, but the moment the gold occies came to the camera it started up again... Keep up the great work!

    Question about the leluepi? I have yellow ones. I can't find any orange ones where I'm located. Is it just a color difference or does it mean something more?

    • @JasonsCichlids
      @JasonsCichlids  3 роки тому +1

      There are many different types of leleupi colour morphs ranging from yellow, orange, brown, grey and even yet black. All coming from different locations in Lake Tanganyika. I have only ever seen yellow and orange leleupi with the other colour morphs being rare. Hopefully you will come across some nice orange ones in your area soon mate.

    Awesome. My favourite fish are my white calvus so I've gotta say your breeding pair are my favourites. Great to see you get so pumped when you realized they had spawned for you again. Congrats on that. I'd like to see you breed some Nigripinnis. I've just aquired a pair myself & am trying to get hold of more females but that's not so easy here in Perth where they are rather rare. Currently got a large breeder box in the tank to protect the female. Hopefully I'll source more females soon so I can let her out & see if I can get some fry out of them.
    Great video man 🍻

      Cheers for that. I have to totally agree with you, my fave are my breeding pair of white Calvus. Haha I sounded like a complete goose, but I guess you all got to see my genuine reaction to finding out they spawned while I was filming this. Ok Nigripinnis is a great suggestion mate, I will look into it soon, just gotta make some room in my tanks and we'll see how we go! They are pretty rare over there are they? I have seen them come through a couple times over this side but not too often. Good luck sourcing some females mate! Hopefully you'll find some soon. Cheers again ✌

      @@JasonsCichlids Nah, ya didn't sound like a goose. Just sounded like someone with genuine passion that was stoked to find something very cool in thier world.
      Tangs aren't all that popular here compared to the rest of the cichlids & even the people that are into them prefer the leptosoma so nigripinnis can be pretty hard to come by. I think I've seen them in shops here maybe 5 times in the past 10 years or so. I've got a line on some but it'll be a couple of months before I can get them if I don't find any sooner. If I have to I'll separate the female into another tank while I wait to get them.

    • @JasonsCichlids
      @JasonsCichlids  3 роки тому

      Thanks mate, appreicate that! Yeah most people prefer colour over characteristics and behaviour of the fish, which I totally understand of course. But wow, ok only about 5 times in 10 years, so yeah pretty rare thats for sure! At least you have some lined up in the future if all else fails.

    Bad video.
    Too long.
    Listen to your narration before you publish. - you repeat a lot and ramble quite a bit.
    The stars are your fish. - not your prose.

      Hi Ryan, glad you like the collection of fish I have. I do wish I can tailor for everyone but that isn't always possible. It is difficult to go through an entire fish room and make a short video. Last year I broke my fish room tour into 5 videos but this year I thought I would do it all in one so people don't have to wait weeks to see the entire room. I am by no means a pro when it comes to this and probably will never feel comfortable talking on camera. I'll be the first to admit that, just trying to share my love of the hobby with you guys. However, cheers for the feedback.

      @@JasonsCichlids I just want to say that I completely disagree with Ryan's comment. This is the first video of yours that I watched (and then I went on to binge all your other content) and in my opinion it is perfect! Your tanks look amazing and so natural, the fish are spectacular and your comments on them taught me so much! I have been keeping various tanganyikan cichlids for a few years but have only bred multies. Watching this video has made me more confident that I could try breeding other species due to what I have just learned from you. Keep 'em coming Jason!

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask! Cheers again mate.
