I'm not the man - YOU are the man Jeff! What's so messed up is in that section....go watch Morgan Rose do it. He's only using his left on the really fast triplet licks at the beginning. I just can't match that. He's just an insanely special player. And his energy is through the f'n roof.

Holy shit that is crazy this was 3 years ago and it may even be getting closer to 4 😲😲😲. Man, I remember this one just kicking my ass something fierce. To me, Morgan is in his own class. I really mean that. I couldn't get his feel the way I wanted but I tried to salvage a useable version at least and I still remember being so happy with getting this. Went back and forth with being unhappy with the video and the audio together. I was focusing so damn hard on getting the licks semi-right that I was struggling to keep it entertaining if memory serves. For real, cannot thank you enough

Lee, that ride sound about drove me nuts...LOL! I tracked it the first time and the f'n ride mic slid to the left. I got out some pliers and went straight to that stand. Even with decent placement, I still had to work on the EQ for it to stand out. Morgan's ride is a pure monster. I had a 22' Z for years (thing weighed damn near 10 lbs...HAHAHA!). I really missed that damn thing for this cover. Thank you so, so much buddy

Dude, really digging Clay Sun & The Red Water Rising clips! That's a damn solid band Steve! I flat out love Morgan. I encourage anyone to watch those vids of him doing this tune in particular. His right foot is what made me drop my jaw. I knew he was super fast with it but it's the manner in which he uses it. It's incredible. Yeah Morgan is an insane player. He's been a favorite of mine since the first time I heard Sevendust like 15-20 years ago. Dude plays with so much physicality. I try to watch as many interviews and drum clinics with him as I can!

I can watch any given clip and I watch how active and how powerful he is overall but my eyes just naturally go to his right foot because I'm still amazed. Good call on the swing too! There's no 4 on the floor vibe to that one. The back and forth with the half time cuts, the insane creativity overall but especially on the drum side and the energy are over the top. Good God this song was a pain to nail down LOL! I still remember it. I cut it and it was one of those that I "thought" was OK but once I started editing, I realized I had to get it way, way tighter. What up Zax! The tom pattern is slightly off from what he does. Morgan lands a kick to break it up as opposed to just straight toms. I ended up replicating his kick hit w/ one of the floors. Wow it has been a minute since I even looked at this one. It all came rushing back as I watched a little bit. This song as so incredibly hard to replicate. I still missed various sections but I tried to get it fairly close. I can't begin to explain the respect level I have for Morgan Rose. He is an absolute influence and a generational talent in my mind. Such a hard hitting, precision player and so incredibly fun to watch

you make it easier on yourself by playing the left foot on the opening riff and the other triple kick beats throughout the song, morgan plays them all with right foot only, other then the obvious parts that you have to play double bass on, the rest is all one foot.try it that way, gives a whole other level of appreciation for how hard that song really is. tom breakdowns were a little off, but overall for how hard that tune is, you did a great job with it! morgans just on another planet
His right foot is a machine. It's crazy how good that dude is. Not playing any cool card by saying "I tried it his way"....LOL! I didn't. I saw what he was doing and more or less attempted to make it about a 70/30 mix of left right while still staying right dominant. I have a massive amount of appreciation for the dude both on and off stage. Seems like an extremely down to earth, level headed guy (That part is important for just life in general). Really appreciate you checking it out!
One other question if you don't mind - you absolutely know their tunes and know his live approach. How does he play Home live? Please tell me he's using his left foot on the intro at least. I'm asking because I've focused on two videos. One - I can see the left foot being used but in another one, I swear it looks like he's using his right the whole way. And if he does, I don't know how the dude's leg hasn't fallen off...LOL! Again, he's an absolute powerhouse. Anybody else I'd know how he's doing it but with Morgan, I'd love to get your take on it.
@@TreyBDrums all of his early stuff like first 4 albums he only uses the double bass for accents songs like black crucified and trust are all right foot which is insane, home intro would be rlr r rlr r rrr rr on the kick, u can hear in the verses the quick kick triples, then its right foot, u can also hear him opening and closing the high hat, his approach is so different it makes the stuff so hard to copy how he does it, its funny theres a cover of black by disturbed and even there drummer is playing it with two feet when morgan only uses one

It was the angle - he's throwing two quick lefts in the one that had me scratching my head. At that tempo, the r rrr rr is a damn workout. And it's more of the same, I'd have to break it up with at least one left in that stretch (most likely I'd go with r lrr rr). I'm absolu-f'n-lutely going to check out Disturbed's cover of Black. REALLY appreciate the reply! I love talking this type stuff.

It helped that by the time I was ready to cover it, there were vids of Morgan doing it at pre-show VIP type deals but that man's right foot is a pure machine so I still had to come up with a different angle on how to approach the footwork. Morgan Rose is a huge influence of mine and yes, his right foot is definitely a machine and his double foot work is incredible. I love watching him play as he is energetic, passionate and animated when he's killing his skins. Keep up the good work my friend, you are an amazing drummer.

@@cam2ss1le14 He's such an influential drummer man. I just can't really ever do it justice trying to explain in words. People of any genre can watch that man live and they have to be impressed. Now - bass drum. At this time, I had to listen LOL - that's a sample blended with a real kick. I don't know much about sampling but it's fairly easy through Reaper. There's a feature called Reagate and in Reagate, you can use a gate to midi. Basically it creates a midi note. Then on a separate track, I brought in the sampled sound but for me, I'm not overly skilled in that area so the attack and the bite of the drum are coming from the mic. Granted it's processed to hell and back with compression, eq, presets, etc. but this definitely incorporated a sampled sound on the kick. It helped the drive of the song in this instance. Dude, I've done it different ways for different songs. Honestly, I'm experimenting on a weekly basis LOL! Seriously, just watch a video on the Reagate to Midi trick and good chance you can start using quick.

@@TreyBDrums Love the new album. It's still 7D for 2020. They did bring in something new for this one. Has more dynamics but they never lost that 90's 7D which is why I still what they give us.
Your doubles on your feet are clean bro! Are you using heel toe technique for those or what? Personally using slide technique myself but can never quite keep them tight and clean. Might be time to start fresh...
What's up Curtis! Man.......in stuff like this, it's a heel toe motion but it's a stomp. I guess you'd call it a scuff maybe? Not sure. But I'll alternate and go toward to toe on some hits (bad habit) for more power but it; too, is just a damn stomp. Sadly, it's almost all hip flexors and upper leg. I come from the generation just before in ears were readily available for clubs / small halls, etc.. and in order to be heard, I had to smash shit. So I hope that kinda answers it. Some great channels though that help me look at other techniques and it's fascinating to see how many different ways it can be done effectively. Thanks my friend!
