Nice job Adrian, a very good explanation on the PS gear.
Thanks
Man has a very calming voice
Thanks for that up close view as it allowed me to see the USB-B connection for laptop play!
You're welcome
Hi 👋, Audio excellence Canada, Great sound quality coming through loud and clear 100% better than it was before.
PHIL FROM THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOULIN FRANCE.
Great! thanks
A lot of people still play discs.
I do NOT stream. At all. Nothing.
So a CD/SACD Transport is vital for me.

Any chance of seeing a head-to-head review between the PS Audio Transport & Mk2 DAC stack and the McIntosh MCD12000? I would love to know the differences (if any) in the SACD technology in retrieving the hi-res layer, and how they compare to each other sonically. Please and thank you! :)
I would have thought that the optimal connection between these two devices would have been via the I2S HDMI to take advantage of the DSD... but you ignored it in your survey of the back panels. Also, what's the prospect of seeing the transport used with other DACs especially ones that can also do DSD? Thanks.
Yes I forgot to mention the IS2 connection. Not all DACs that can do DSD will be compatible with the transport, but we will definitely use the transport with other DACs
The original memory player was an Oppo inside. I'm guessing the new is something cheaper?
Thanks Adrian, wish the screen was bigger. When is the Airlens streamer coming?
The screen is downright silly. What were they thinking ?!?
@@nirodha35 they weren't.
My last communication with PSAudio about a month or so ago is they are doing pricing exercises to figure out what to offer them at.
No idea. With PAS Audio, it comes when it comes!
I great way to do a product overview in my opinion! No boxes needed ;)
lol, I thought you love our unboxings!
Yeah great...but what about some FR30 on our plate?? I'm hungry over here.
As the designer of the PS speakers, I have to say that the DAC (especially) and transport are something special.
However, I’d love for Adrian to hear our new aspen FR20 speakers sometime.
Casually mentions “I designed these” :) they are beautiful by the way!
@@cbrunhaver Hi Chris, Congrats on the speakers! We'll get to them once we get more space in the store!
@@adrianlow2114 Hi Adrian! I’m definitely a fan of the channel and have been enjoying watching what you’re up to and your thoughts on various things. You’ve got some beautiful things coming through your store as well and I’d love to visit someday.
@@cbrunhaver Thanks!
So excited about this one, Adrian.
Looking forward to the compare against the MCD12000 and it’s new combo
Hopefully soon, a lot on our plate!
Hi 👋, Audio Excellence Canada. Great territorial on your new Dac and CD interphase equipment, Especially now that it’s coming through loud and clear. I look 👀 forward to your next review. PHIL FROM THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOULIN FRANCE.
Thank you Phil
DAC looks beautiful. Must be very heavy, 10kg?
Don’t forget to play SACDs and DVDs with 24/96 or 24/192 wav (burn the dvds as “Data-discs”). Then you will show what this combo really is capable of. You should of cause play red boon cds when doing comparisons with other brands, but don’t forget to maximize the PS Audio combo.
I’m confused. I thought PS Audio was direct to consumer only. Please help me understand…
PS Audio is direct to consumer in the US. Other countries have distribution
Yeah they are now in the US. 🙄
Sitting on tons of PS gear if anyone is interested.
Are any comparisons planned between the new DirectStream DAC Mk2 and others?
yes
I tested a Sony SACD player years ago but the Sony had power supply problems that did not like our dirty winter mains power, I lost interest and sent the player back to Sony SA for credit. SACD was born dead in South Africa, I retired since closing my shop in 2008, so I lost track of that scene. I just wonder what happened with DVD-A.
DVD-A has basically died off.
Given PSAudio's history, I am confident that Mark2 DAC is a high performer and will work great especially when paired with PSAudio's SACD transport as the I2S connection should work well with it for SACD layer (DSD) playback. However, I don't think it is configurable so one has to be dedicated to PSAudio's stack... Other very highly regarded DSD capable DACs have I2S connections that are configurable hence is supposed to work with other brands of SACD transports.
Since when did anything PS Audio work great? Read the owner forums. Probably thousands of user posts about PS Audio stuff that doesn't work properly, or at all.
@@brodricj3023
Fact, have owned PS Audio transport and BHK preamp for years with daily use and never a glitch. People that have equipment that works properly don't post on the manufactures website, so you can also say thousands of PS Audio products have performed with out problems.
Fact, no company in the world would be able to continue manufacturing if as you say, "since when did anything PS Audio work great?" The doors would have been shut many years ago.
@@Mark-lq3sb Read the PS forums. It's full of posts from owners with stuff that doesn't work properly, or at all. More so than any other brand owners forum.
This is great. BUT DIDN’T see an unboxing
lol, we were trying to spare you the "pain" of our unboxings!
How on earth did we survive so long without a good $10,000.00 DAC? Chinese slaves working 18 hours per day on electronic assembly lines for $2 a day are celebrating.
Some DACS will recognize the SACD layer via the I2s connection if they use the same pin orientation as PS Audio.
Denafrips ?
@@ptg01 also the Holo dac.
I play SACD into my VMV D1se's I2S input.
Too bad that for that price disk tray doesn’t even close flush😮
The DAC should have an HDMI ARC for our TV’s to plug into.
PSAudio is offers stereo playback for audio only and I highly doubt if they plan to offer solutions to integrate with video sources.
@@ptg01 There are a lot of people who watch TV with regular 2-channel stereo and want to play the sound through their audio system. However, one can get an adapter to get an HDMI feed or just use the optical out from the TV. The main issue is lip-synching the sound from the audio with the video, which HDMI ARC is supposed to do.
@@Mark-rw3kw, that’s exactly what I’m saying. We have to dumb down our connections into these $7,000 components.
Very few DAC's support HDMI audio. And PS Audio isn't one of those who do.
Hi Adrian,
Respectfully, McGreedy McGowan had *nothing* to do with the Digital Lens! If you read the article shown in the video at 4:13, you will see that it was created by Bob Stadtherr and voiced by Arnie Nudell.
On a related note, PSA shuttered all its US dealers in 2019. How long do you think it will be before the same happens in Canada?
Re Digital Lens, you may well be right. I was a PS Audio dealer when they first introduced the Digital Lens and perhaps assumed that Paul designed/helped it.
re distribution pathway, in the end, that's PS Audio's right to choose. I believe good dealers can do a better job, but that's my opinion
$10k and that’s the display and control you get?!
That’s a big downgrade from the previous full color touchscreen.
And now you need to be 2 feet away to read it. Horrible. 🤦🏻♂️
Gotta say both pieces are ugly. The finish is coarse looking, tiny cheap looking buttons, Screen display looks like something from a new province in China. Hope you sell some.
I agree. To me it looks like a downgrade from the previous version.
Now it looks like it is part of the Stellar line, which is their budget line.
It’s like a big step backwards. Internally and performance wise that might not be the case. But from the outside… 🤦🏻♂️
Who is this designed for? At this price point, you can get Esoteric SACD transport/players that are built to a way higher standard than this midfi wannabe brand
Esoteric is indeed superbly built. Sonically, I have historically preferred other DACs
It's designed for the PS fan bois who salivate at every new PS product release and who don't seem to care whether it works properly or not. Esoteric owners are more discerning, they appreciate a well built quality product that works flawlessly out of the box and for years after.
@@brodricj3023 100% agree. Dont think you would be able to find anyone who can objectively disagree that Esoteric simply makes the best cd transports in the world, regardless of price point. This is why even dcs uses Esoteric transports.
@meesmo4
A new Esoteric for $7,000 US dollars? Laugh out loud!
I live in the U.S., so Canadian prices have nothing to do with me.
Esoteric has *one dealer in the U.S.* go ahead, talk with them and find out the truth. I have...
