1. Bake and cool your cake layers completely.
2. Level the cake layers if needed to create an even surface.
3. Place a small amount of frosting on your cake board or plate to anchor the cake.
4. Place the first cake layer on the board or plate.
5. Apply a thin layer of frosting (crumb coat) all over the cake. This layer helps trap any loose crumbs.
6. Place the cake in the refrigerator for about 15-30 minutes to let the crumb coat firm up.
7. Once the crumb coat is set, apply a thicker layer of frosting to completely cover the cake.
8. Smooth the frosting for a clean finish, and you can decorate the cake as desired.
